I wish I never started this project. I just cant get that silly little adjuster to stay in. This is difficult. This video is the best one out and I have watched it 20 times now.

Did you figure out how to get it to stay? I’m having the same issue.

@@jonathanuribe5419 There are 4 bolts holding the wheel bearing in and if removed its easy to fit your hand inside to do the work.

Thanks APDTY , I got there in the end , if it helps others , I found that if I held the brake adjuster mechanism ( piece of Aluminum ) on with masking tape helped me , also when putting the springs on do them in the order shown ( I put a piece of wood between the brake cylinder and the back shoe to stop it destroying the rubber on the cylinder )

Thank you mate it was so helpful. Wish I watched it before I started to work on it. I put a long screw in place of where the drum was fastened and damaged the adjuster without removing the drum. Then found your video and did proper way. Now waiting for new adjuster.

Thanks so much - massive help !
Did take me several hours dealing with that metal clip, but got there in the end. Without your reference the whole car would be in the bin 🤦‍♂️😂

That self adjuster is a royal pai.
Mine doesn't have enough spring tension with new springs to stay in place. Then its falls into the pocket behind the shoe. Once I do get it set and if one of the springs doesn't set, pops off and start all.over again.
    I hate it.

Yup. I spent an entire afternoon just trying to get the damn thing to stay in place. Kept falling off. Finally I taped it onto the shoe, then put the adjuster in place and put the spring on. It was the only way to get the bloody thing to stay there.

Thanks for the tutorial... My Mazda 2 is at about 100k and starting to squeak in the morning along with a slight scraping noise when applying the brakes. I was thinking on just taking the lazy way out an ordering the whole assembly and going through the bleed process. I hate replacing shoes. haha.

Yes. It would have been better to keep it all at normal speed. If we want to speed it up we can do it ourselves.

How many people needed to take out the screws with an impact screwdriver? Because when I adjusted my rear drums I thought I had to do the same, but both side’s two screws came out w/o any issues, literally can break them loose and take out and reinstall by hand

I couldn't break them with a normal screw driver and almost stripped them, so I need to go buy an impact screwdriver 😅

bunch of wd40, some hammering and patience did the trick. I used a small ratchet screwdriver

What size bolt do you use to pop the drum loose?

No lube on the brake shoe contact points and it looks like he didn't clean the left side 👎🐀

Is it necessary to adjust when i reinstall? The audio cut off at that point and im a bit confused if I need to adjust the breaks, and what that noise he said was good is about.

    • @imfreepb
      @imfreepb Місяць тому

I'm sure you already know this by now but yes you must adjust when you reinstall. The noise he talks about that is good is when you get the adjustment just to where the shoes almost touche the drum

Whoever invented drum brakes and all the mechanisms inside deserves to burn in hell for eternity.
Disk brakes are so much easier it's unbelievable.
Thanks for making this video. Without it I'd still be swearing.
One suggestion: spray the entire inside of the hub with brake cleaner to get rid of all the brake dust, which might be carcinogenic.

Fumbled with the adjuster for 2 hours and decided it was better just to kill myself.
