      I have cedar shingle siding on the end of my home and the woodpeckers have been working very hard to get at insects behind the shingles. However, we have our home sprayed yearly for bugs so there are old empty insect nests. I’m going to try the products in the video because we have run out of options.

  • @MAGAMAN
    @MAGAMAN Рік тому +6

    There is a good change you have insect activity in your house if the woodpeckers keep showing up. What woodpeckers do is peck on the wood (or whatever) to scare the bugs, then listen for moving bug noises. If they don't hear anything, they move on. If they hear bugs, they will keep pecking until they get to the bugs. Both termites and carpenter ants will tunnel through drywall and stucco, not just wood, so it would be a good idea to have an exterminator come out to check for termites.

      OK, I’m reading an article on peststrategies.com it’s a 2022 review of top 5 woodpecker deterrents. Ur not gonna like #1. It’s the spiral units I put on my house. But! There are some other options. There are some insecticide sprays and bird repellant gels. I also saw an interesting product in my search, I have no idea if it works, but look up a product called “Bird-out Aromatic Bird Repellent”. That looks interesting. Good luck. U could also try repositioning the reflective spirals. I hang them above the areas where they land.

    I’m thinking you need to do a little bit of sanding before you put the paint on there but that’s just me

      Thx for watching man. I may possibly could have done a little sanding, however, the drivit finish on my house is textured. So a smooth sanded area may not look right.

      No mention of filling with foam either. Seen other videos that do a better job of explaining the patching. Basically, 1) fill cavity with spray insulation foam, cut and sand down once dry 2) patch surface with a small piece of fiberglass mesh 3) add another layer of patch once dry 4) paint.

      @jordanseverydaydiy4373  12 днів тому

      @@nmbr3fan well thx for watching and trying them. I’ve had a few people tell me they didn’t work. It’s quite possible it may be specific species of woodpecker that do or don’t like these things. Depending on the material on ur home they are pecking at, especially if it’s wood, u may need to treat the wood to kill their food source, which is usually bugs. Good luck.

    My neighbor has mirrors hanging all over the side of her house. I HATE THEM. I can't enjoy my backyard anymore because I'm constantly being blinded by the sun. We have to keep the blinds closed as well, otherwise we're blinded in our kitchen and dining room. There has to be another way to stop my neighbor's pecker from blinding me.

    Hate to tell you, but you need to replace the entire exterior of your home that is covered with DryVet. Terrible product. Band in some municipalities. Replace with brick. Our HOA had to replace DryVet due to mold and windows falling out. Go with brick. Do it right with the best material. Get the best contractor for the job. Plan now while patching to survive.

    • @jordanseverydaydiy4373
      @jordanseverydaydiy4373  3 роки тому +1

      Thx for the feedback Pat. Not sure all your comments are correct. Dryvit is just a finish, yes it is possible that it molds if not maintained. Like any home needs a maintenance. Architectural foam, which is what the dryvit is applied to is a standard proven building product used all over the world. However, the basis of the video for repelling the woodpeckers works amazingly. Since we did this, now going on 2 years, we haven’t had any more woodpeckers.
