I’m the guy in the orange shirt on the left with grandpa Elliot! Nick cavazos. It was an honor to play with grandpa Eliot, and a memory I’ll cherish forever!!❤
Grandpa Elliott (born Elliot Small; July 10, 1944 - March 8, 2022), also known as Uncle Remus, was a veteran street-musician in New Orleans, Louisiana. He's now singing on the STREETS PAVED WITH GOLD. God rest his soul...
Gandpa Elliot has a lot of angels come to carry him home. The shame in this world is that we don't appreciate what we have until they are gone. His wonderful voice has joined the band of angels.
You will be missed, Grandpa Elliott. Now you're sitting on a dock of the sky. 💙 You were a wonderful person and shined a light of a blessed soul. Good man with a big heart for music and for the people...
One cannot find a better interpretation than Granpa Elliott with this renowned spiritual, very much in the New Orleans vibe and of its significant meaning, pre Civil War. Great work by the Playing for Change group. I for one am now supporting them directly. Thank you for the music of binding us together world-wide.
After supporting them for about 5 years, I just increased my monthly contribution. We need more of this in our lives individually, collectively and globally
This is the first time I ever seen this video. Let me say it has me with tears in my eyes. Grandpa Elliot you will ALWAYS BE IN OUR HEARTS! Thank you Lord for giving us the opportunity to listen to this angel.
Just fabulous!! Love the unity… which this world soooo needs! Whoever stitched this lot together and produced it… can’t have been easy, but they equally have my respect!!!
I love this guy. Raw music. He puts a smile on my face without fail. We should cherish people like this cos he's a generation that won't be replaced. He's also that nice he shared his sunglasses with someone.
This is freaking incredible. I went to film school and have done a lot with musicians- so I am aware getting the audio for this to all work out so perfectly is a huge task. Love the production and all that the musicians brought to the table!
Love this man. A picture of Grandpa Elliot and my son walking down the street together dropped into my FB feed today. Such an incredible spirit. We also had the privilege of front row seats to Preservation Hall and volunteered at a lower 9th ward church while there. There is nothing like New Orleans.
Just buried a dear friend, and on the procession from the grave to the reception the band busted out with this song. It's always been one of my favorites and now it has an extra special place in my heart. Belting out the words with the trumpet and clarinet was the best send off you could ask for.
The highest goal that a person should have is to immortalize themselves for posterity. Too bad I can't meet him in person anymore. But whenever I listen to his songs I see the happy grandpa singing and that's what warms my heart. So grandpa achieved the goal. See you Grandpa..... someday.
WOW! I just received it from our local "singing circle" leaders-- let's keep singing this song as we pray and work to end wars around the world! ☮🎶(Playing for Change, thanks for making this global video and it keeps Grandpa Elliott's voice alive even though he is singing with the angels now!)
We will always work hard to keep our music roots! If you'd like to check out more musicians, please read this article: www.playingforchange.com/articles/indigenous-dancers-and-musicians-that-you-probably-didnt-know
Ein wunderbarer Mensch der weiss was Musik bewegen kann. Solche Persönlichkeiten braucht unsere Welt.💝💝💝weiter so Du bist genial💝💝💝You are the King of Soul🎇
Nothing can beat a well playing traditional jazz orchestra. I wished I could see the entire video of this tune played by the new Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
Wonderful video. Great guy (Grandpa Elliott). You can still find him right there (corner of Royal and Toulouse) most nights, literally playing for change, although I know he won't turn down a ten or a twenty.
I met Oscar Castro at LatinFest 2015 in Canton, MS yesterday. He showed me this and I was amazed! What an awesome project with such talented musician. I'm proud to call Oscar my friend!!
I was in Kids from Wisconsin in 1975. I lost my copy of this recording long ago. To find it online and hear it after all these decades was nothing short of stunning. I was 17 then, and I am 65 now. Thank you for sharing it.
When the Devil lays down the sheet of paper listing all your Sins and you know you have named them all and asked for forgiveness and you are no longer in that darkness, the Great and peaceful and merciful Father flips the page and shows you the page is clean, you can float on that river with no fears. A beautiful rendition with all colors of God’s creations. Love, love , loved it!!!
Dear god I love and miss New Orleans. The architecture, smell, sounds, food, art, the river, and always music, no matter how far you walk there's music.
Thank you for creating this and thank you to all who was a part of this! Such a fantastic way to show how powerful music is, and how it can unite all of us :) Beautifully done!
We discovered Playing For Change 6 years ago, when my GD was a baby. Grandpa Elliott has brought us so much beautiful music. We will continue to enjoy his music & remember how special he was. My favorite song he does is Down By The Riverside. 💜💙💚❤

Me gustaría oír el manicero con todos estos profesionales ojalá se pudiera gracias
What a weird way of phrasing a comment, don't try so hard to sound sophisticated. "One cannot.."?🤨🤣
5th and 4th grade will be singing then fifth grade will be playing musical instruments
How is it possible not to like this. I have been crying happy tears the whole time 💞🙏
