Jim Gaffigan is more Canadian than most Canadians. His humour is clean, understated and self-deprecating. We love his astute observations on every subject.

As a college student in Winnipeg in -40, in the middle of February, I had bad cabin fever and borrowed a friend’s car with vinyl seats (crunch), and I finally understood what driving on square tires meant! It was as if I was hitting potholes for the first fifty metres until the tires warmed up. I will say that the one and only time I saw The Northern Lights, was on an icy day in November on that campus. It was an awe inspiring experience as we grabbed sleeping bags and blankets, wrapped up and lay on the frosty grass to watch the colour ballet unfold. Winnipeg is considered the cultural centre of Western Canada, a fabulous place to visit. Love your videos and the comedian is great.
I love how east coast Canadians call Manitoba western Canada this is not the first or second time I have seen or hear this. . . I’d call it central. But I’m from BC.

Lived in Wpg, the coldest corner in Canada id Portage and Main, the building funnel the -50° wind down that intersection. Growing up in Saskatchewan I was familiar with prairie cold, but that corner took the cake!

Portage and Main is no joke. It can get like the opening from Perfect Strangers where the guy is fighting the wind to cross. Now do that in Jan/Feb when -20 to -30 is the seasonal norm.
I went from Saskatoon to Winnipeg to Lethbridge- came back to Manitoba after 9 years n cried the first winter. I wish I could take the wind again over months of cold!
I went to Winnipeg in February. Woke up in the morning and they were interviewing someone on a weather ship in the Arctic on morning radio. It was -38 C in the Arctic. In Winnipeg it was -40 C.
Was in Winnipeg in March years ago and had a GREAT time. People were the friendliest ever. A bus driver waited for me at his end point because that entrance to the zoo was closed, and he knew that I would need a lift back to a better entrance point, loved the zoo (an amazing live butterfly exhibit), a local offered to drive me to all the cool spots, the long walk across a long bridge over 2 rivers converging admittedly shivering the whole time. Yes it was cold, and one more sweater could have helped. Great time. Great city. Loved it from beginning to end, top to bottom.
I'm originally from Ontario (Ontarable) but moved up to Yellowknife NT 14 years ago we refer to outs as Northerners.the summer months consists of over 19 hrs of daylight at 3 am the sun is high in the sky the birds are chirping, but the streets are desolate it's like something out of a post apocalyptic movie. It's not uncommon to see blacked out bedroom windows. It still messes with me psychologically . The temperature usually stays between 25 to 28 Celsius. And either the last two weeks of July or the first two weeks of August can reach as high as 32 Celsius. ( I suggest you investigate our Forrest fires we've had) Last summer over 60% of the population of the territories were evacuated to different provinces because of smoke extreme heat and lots of fires. Whole communities were literally burned to the ground. Out winters get very cood average temperatures are around -30s without the wind chill. December and January are the coldest month of the year. Temperatures have dropped as far as -56 Celsius with windchill. The sun comes up around 10 am and it's completely dark by 3 pm street lights on cars already with their headlights on.Ive roads are constructed across different lakes to make travel quicker and easier to take supplies up to the mines . You don't want to get stranded on the ice roads or even some of the highways leaving The territories. As you may not see any vehicles for a few days. It's not uncommon to see herds of wood bison walking down the Highways. Seeing foxes and sometimes beats right in the city of Yellowknife. The summers are great for camping/ bushcraft camping etc. and it's all queens land so no permission is needed. Using common sense when having fires is a must. And if you have a gun license it's recommended to carry a firearm (long gun) with you for protection from the apex predators. Bears, Bob cats, wolverines etc. winters are great for camping also but be smart and have experience you don't want to get yourself in a situation ,, also you can be in the wild in less time than u think. Surrounded by fresh water lakes. Ohhh ya the old gold mine up here houses 237,000 tonnes of frozen arsenic underground. Enough to kill the world 100 of times over. Thanks again for the video. Manitoba resident here! Winnipeg is very very cold in February. And so dreary. Friends don't let friends go to Winnipeg in February. LOL. And, he knows us very well. It's perfect.

Winnipeger here. We try to bring attention to ourselves by reminding everyone we are the middle of the country. We also have alot of lakes and polar bears here in Manitoba.

Winnipegger here. Born raised and still here. One year we were colder than Mars in February. February is the month that you should definitely avoid! If the cold doesn’t get ya…. The geese will! Lol

I live in northern Wisconsin; we're kind of Baja Canada. I was surprised that when Gaffigan was talking about the Northwest Territories, he didn't mention that their license plates are shaped like polar bears!
Our coldest weather comes when winter air masses move down from central Canada. When it happens, all I can think of is that those poor people up there have to put up with those temperatures for months.
The NWT plates are like all the rest now.

I met a Jamaican guy that came to Winnipeg every Dec-Jan because after visiting family that came here 10 years before, he loved winter. I didn't get it but who am I to judge?
As someone from PEI who has been to Winnipeg during -50° weather, it's really not that cold. It's only a dry cold. On the east coast we have -50° weather but it's a wet cold which makes it SOOOO much worse. I was able to just wear an flannel shirt over my t-shirt while in Winnipeg's -50°.

It's good humour. Been from Newfoundland and further east the time zone makes sense as to daylight hours. We got our accents here and we speak fast but that's what makes it unique. Every province is different in some ways

Winnipegger here, he has it exactly, the rest of Canada does forget we exist. If they do remember it at all it’s basically to highlight all the not so great stuff. I have actually apologized for the Winnipeg weather in the winter myself . Lol . Funny tho I grew up in Manitoba, have been here all my life and honestly have no desire to move. My mom would say the only reason you go to Winnipeg is because you have relatives there. Joke is now I do live here so they have to come.
I grew up on the shore of Lake Superior. Can attest to the cold part. We'd get to the same area a lot. People forget Northern Ontario exists too..

I grew up in Glacé Bay, Cape Breton Island,not far from the waterfront. Newfoundland fishermen would come into Port to gas up/replenish and had to walk by our house to get to town. It was impossible to understand them - “we couldnae understand a word they were saying ‘bye. “. Our grandparents were Scottish still speaking the Gaelic as as is often said “Cape Breton Scots were more Scottish than the Scots”. The Newfies didn’t understand us either. Do visit Canada Mert. You will have a grand time wherever you land.

Summers are great in Manitoba. People tend to think Manitoba is completely flat because it's part of the prairies but, the southwest portion is beautiful with all it's sloping hills and valleys. There's also ski hill history under the Manitoba Historical Society youtube page.

I live in Vancouver. He's right about the rain, through winter, and, yeah, some of fall and spring. But, when the rain stops, the mountain views are astounding. And the rain and mild temperatures bring with them an incredible abundance of life, which is why Vancouver is sometimes called The Emerald City (and also the Rain Coast, so there's that). My husband just today said that he thinks he could leave an empty coffee cup in the yard for a week and it would come back covered in moss. Once you're out of the city proper, you're in a semi-tropical rain forest and nothing compares to that, even when it is raining. Besides, I've lived in them there cold Canadian cities, and a little rain is no biggie after that.
By the way, it's pronounced more like "Noonehvuut" than "none of it."

I grew up in Manitoba just outside of Winnipeg. February has this 2 week period every year where the weather will always be -50 and then the wind chill brings it down further to the -60s. School would only close if it was -65 with the wind chill at 6 am when the radio would announce with schools were closed and if the buses were running. It was not uncommon to be in the -64 waiting at the end of your 2 mile road that you walked to be at your bus stop. The bus had about a 30 minute window that it could arrive.
This is how we developed the ability to wear shorts in the winter.

Love that bit about Winnipeg, Manitoba. I moved here, and it's absolutely spot on!! December, January and February are super super cold. I feel sorry for people coming here for the first time during that period. But on the plus side, we don't get the ice storms that the east gets. And we get more sun than any other province, except of course Saskatchewan, so same difference.

It’s always fun to watch Jim Gaffigan! As a Winnipegger we take pride in our hardiness to brave the winters and survive the mosquitoes in summer. We have it all living here! We’re close to the US boarder, cottage country and world class beaches, fertile land for crops, big sky and lots of hunting, fishing and camping. Our history and culture is rich and we have many stunning historical buildings and cultural events. Our top notch sports teams are second to none. We are a smaller city in size but bigger than most in heart! We are considered part of Western Canada but we are truly the heart of the Nation! There’s a reason we have ‘Friendly Manitoba’ on our licence plates.😊

Last year, the city of Regina hired a company to create slogans in the hope of attracting more tourists to a place known for brutal winters and possibly not much else. What they came up with was one of the funniest public relations screw-ups I've ever heard of. The two VERY short-lived slogans were "The City That Rhymes with Fun" and "Show Us Your Regina." Apologies ensued.

I used to watch you all the time last year as I'm Canadian and sent you a ton of info and fun facts and never ever did I get a reply or a thank you and as you know here in Canada we really respect those who are kind and polite.

I have found that when someone runs down a place, even in humor, the best thing to do is to go there yourself and find out if it is as they say. Yes we have harsh winters so much so the it is sometimes referred to as "Winterpeg", but we have beautiful summers with temperatures reaching 40º C or 104º F.

Not as common to get as cold as alberta and Manitoba here in new brunswick. It does happen once and a while. But it never stops daily life, well, unless your car wont start, that's what block heaters and trickle chargers are for. Combined with the resolve to say F it, bugger the cold, i have stuff to do today. Lol

Canadians don't take offence easily, especially if no offence is MEANT. We generally have a humourous bent to our personalities so we don't mind humour directed our way (as I said, if it is not MEANT to be mean) so someone like Jim Gaffigan who is VERY observant is very well received with his humour - (& it is okay for you to laugh too when you notice a truism about us he brings up.)
I personally LOVE his comedy, whether about Canada (& he has another 2 or 3 pieces on us you should check out) or about anywhere or anything else.
I think his observations on Canada are both spot on & funny.

I once lived in thompson way north of Winnipeg and to go south to Winnipeg was like going to Heaven... Canada has a lot of land and some parts are VERY cold...I thought he was funny and had the old sef dep down too,

I am from Ontario just a Quick history note regarding Newfoundland & Labrador St Johns & Saint Johns time zone etc
they did not enter into confederation until the late 1940s so the communities time zones etc both Canada & Newfoundland had already existed. How they got to side by side St Johns
