Media presence at Lee Wei Ling’s funeral contradicts family’s request for privacy

- Media gathered outside the Singapore Casket despite calls for privacy at Dr Lee Wei Ling’s funeral.
Her brother, Lee Hsien Yang, announced her passing on 9 October and requested a private wake in line with Dr Lee's wishes.
He emphasised equal treatment for all visitors, with no special privileges for VIPs. The wake, organised at Singapore Casket, has barred media and prohibited photography.
The wake is being held at the Pearl & Sapphire Hall of Singapore Casket, located at 131 Lavender Street, Singapore.
Public visitation is open from 2 PM to 10 PM on 10 October, and from 10 AM to 10 PM on 11 October.
The final visitation period is scheduled for 10 AM to 1 PM on 12 October.

May Dr Lee Wei Ling be blessed to a better world & realm of bliss & be reunited with her loved ones in a better place in due time & space ... Please guys , this is a wake & funeral ... Outrageous and disgusting of the state controlled media companies behaving rudely and disrespectful towards a very decent respected national hero. So sad that the father’s sin befall his children to suffer his bad karma. Very unfortunate. RIP Ms Lee.
If indeed want privacy then no need to announce on social media. Is it his way to cause rifts rifts for the govt? What is his real motive? Anw hope this will not turn political. Only the family knows exactly what is happening. Every family has their own disagreements. Others pls don’t get involved.

L h l should not debate the late l k y wishes in parliament, should follow his wish. Singapore already becomes so cramped and messy with more ugly concrete h d b buildings everywhere no need to have history.

I agree. We should not get involved. But when the case was brought to parliament, it has become a national affair. Lee family should keep it as private matter and sought out in civil court not in parliament. My two cents worth of comments.

This is a moment of condolescences and I do not see the rationale of LHY request to keep Media away from the wake. After all, she is the daughter of our former PM. I think we all should respect the voice of Singaporeans regarding the demolition of the house , as well as LHL being head of the state. Due to the stature of LKY, the house is not just a private house but a house of national interest. Why is LHY so bent to get it demolished and influencing his sister to go against her brother ? We had a Sun Yat Sen Nayang hall in Balestier . Why not a LKY memorial house when so many people are so proud of the era of LKY and keep referencing and comparing the new Generation leaders against that era ?

If one wants to remember your beloved n cherished relationship, it should be done in the heart not hypocrisy. When they r alive why not reconcile n live in peace. Why one is dead n empty talks come out. God is watching n when the time comes, he/she will be accountable to the Maker. Do not mock God, the creator. All has sinned n fallen short of God' glory. The penalty for sin is condemned to the pit.
My sympathies to the family of Lee Wei Ling but have no sympathy at all for the self induced plight of LHY who was willing to make an enemy of LHL over whether 38 Oxley Rd was to be demolished. My take is that LHY has always been jealous of LHL, always playing second fiddle to LHL all his life. His feeling of jealousy is manifested in his disproportionate reaction over the Oxley Rd house. Has LHY ever consulted the people of Singapore over their view on the Oxley Rd house issue which is no more a private family matter but national but of national importance?

Is "respecting" the wish of getting the house demolished really that critical?
Yes. Lky had in his lifetime taken lotsa lands for the development of Singapore. As a gentleman, he’d given word to do likewise for his own house. Not honouring his wish here may give him difficulties in the afterlife?

So, he said that the public cannot visit the building, only close family members.

@@wills2408 We did not want to move from Kampong to the housing estates, that was against our wish. We had to oblige anyway. At that time LKY was the PM. Likewise, he had to follow rules after his retirement.

So, it's very clear that he doesn't want Oxley house to be a memorial for him.
Besides there is already a memorial being built for the Pioneer Leaders.
