My curls are just like yours. I used to hate my curls because just like you.. no one else had them. Years ago I did a big chop. And it grew. My addiction is the straightener. My curls are coming back and now it’s gotten to the point where I no longer want my hair straightened. I am falling in love with my curls. They were very missed. I have been using the mielle. I used to use deva curl. Deva curl no longer works for me. So far mielle is perfect for my hair. It’s always nice to see someone with my hair type do videos.

I love listening to your curly hair history! My hair didn’t turn curly until my early 20’s but it was wonderful (because it had never been dyed or processed) EXCEPT that was in the 70’s and nobody had any interest in curly hair cuts, styles, treatments, etc. ). I just had to make my mistakes ( many of them!) and learn from them! Thank you for what you’re doing!!

Thank you for this video. I am in my 60s and am now wanting to embrace my natural curls after many years (longer than you've been alive LOL) of highlights, color, blow drying and flat ironing my hair. I want to get it healthy again. As a little girl growing up, no one wore naturally curly hair - it was straight. So that's how I grew up and carried that same idea well into my adult years. I've been teetering on going healthy for sometime now, but when I saw your photos of when you began your journey, I noticed that my hair looks much the same way now - at my beginning, that yours did when you began. I have so many questions and really looking for good instruction'/input with solid products. I am committed! Thank you again. I will stay tuned in. Thanks.

I am trying to grow my hair to be healthy and thicker. I didn't realize protein would be a big impact when it comes to repairing the curls. Thank you!

    • @sophiemariecurly
      @sophiemariecurly  Рік тому +6

Yes! how it works is: reg protein treatments or using products with protein in can help reduce breakage and split ends as protein can help fill in and restore/ support the hair structure. Whilst it’s not a permanent “repair” the filling in strengthens meaning your hair is less fragile and less prone to breakage day to day x

Thank you, your video give me hope. I'm in the middle of the "transition" (trying products to see which one will work for my hair. I was so desperate to see the change in my hair from when i was younger. I had lot of curly and wavy hair, then with stress and bad hair treatment i lost my curls and i also started to loose my hair. I must have lost more than half my density. But since i started to take the problem in hand and to act on it, my curls start to come back and also my density! It's not perfect yet but i m in the right way. When i see your video, there is a lot of similarity. Now i just have to be patient and find the right routine for me. Thank you, Céline

I’ve done the buy everything for over a year, and your right, I don’t recommend doing that. I have a huge tote of products that don’t work for my hair…. However, by doing that, I have finally found the products that do work for me. I am still working to fine-tune the last few (like heat-protectant spray), but I’m using what I have from before first. It’s hasn’t been an easy road for me, I’ve always been a hair minimalist for 30 years with a short spiked pixie that I was able to go to bed with damp hair and wake up with it styled, just add a bit of wax. The world of hair products was new to me. 😂😂

Thank yo so much for detailing your journey. It’s so helpful! I also went through a similar process and it’s hard to figure it all out. So this is great. I however was not as passionate about knowing I had curls under there. I’ve had straight hair all my life until the past few years. So this is all mind boggling to figure out. This video is so helpful though. Based on my 2 year journey and the video now I really do think I have curls under there somewhere. This is inspiring me to try really hard to get all my curls to come out.
A video on products would be so helpful. Maybe do several on different products….. oil, protein, moisturizing, etc. and how to figure out what your hair needs. Also how fixing one thing can impact something else.

So glad you mentioned how important it is to *clean* your hair! I thought the CGM was gross, personally. If nothing else, your scalp needs cleansing! Twice. Each time you wash.
It's important to work with your hair type, so instead of lumping all types of curls together in groups, know your hair texture and density. I'm struggling with fine, low density mixed curls (ringlets at the back, looser curls and waves at the front. Annoying). I'm pretty sure hormonal changes have ruined my hair, so I'm not sure if I can get my younger hair back.

I second that about clarifying, I didn't use sulfates for a while, but since I don't wash my hair every week, more like every week and a half, two weeks, my hair needs clarifying, so I started to use sulfates again and it made my hair better, I have better hair days, better curls, more volume, everything. And I've learned about how important is to clarify from Manes by Mell too, love the seesters 😁

I really appreciate this video. I recently got a haircut that wasn't what I'd asked for. She cut off all my waves that it took me 4 months of ugly hair days to finally get. And all I've been focused on is how it used to look and how much I dislike it now. But your video made me think that I should change my perspective and use this time to gain some scalp and hair health goals. And focus on those instead of how ugly I think my haircut is. Thank you so much. I just bought the same Curlsmith products you said you got, so I am currently experimenting with that line.

I love Moroccan oil too! I like to mix a little bit of it with roughly a quarter sized amount of whatever gel I used & scrunch it into my ends as a last step before diffusing.... Whatever is left on my hands I lightly smooth down my hair. It gives a final layer of heat protection & keeps my ends looking great!

Thank you for this video. I had another video of yours suggested to me and from that subscribed. I love that you talk about that we're all unique and that this is what works for you but may not work for another. I'm battling with autoimmune disease and from that the flares end up affecting my curls. My hair changed last summer to pretty much like your 2019 pic and lost tons of hair. I'm looking to see what I can do to improve my scalp and hair along with overall health to see what can help overall. I know I def can't afford those products you've used as I checked out one which here I can only order from Amazon for $114CAD. I'll check out some of the other things and go from there. Absolutely love your curls

I started my journey before you in 2019 and I've had hair loss. My causes are genetics, nutrition and difficult pregnancies. I've seen improvement with major changes to diet and haircare. It sounds like you have Alopecia Areata. It's caused by your immune system attacking your hair follicles. There are 3 different types - one that causes patches like what you have, the second causes total hairloss and the third you have no body hair. Unfortunately there's no set pattern sometimes the hair returns or remains as is. There are definitely treatments - steroids however a new drug was approved in the US last year not sure the status in the UK or Europe. Definitely gets some medical advice to see what can be done. Sometimes stress triggers it by upsetting the immune system and the gut may play a part. Best of luck finding some resolution on this. Hair loss is a hard experience to go through. I've accepted I'll never have my high density hair back and can live with my low density.

Hey! thanks for your comment :) yes I am on a roll haha! got lots of long form videos coming on here. I started my channel last year but struggled to stay consistent as I had a lot happening on my instagram but this year I am want to create a lot more longer detailed videos. Protein sensitivity normally shows up as very dry, brittle hair. But it's often hard to know if those hair symptoms are a direct result of protein, as some mention they experience this after using coconut for example...or maybe you just need more moisture in your hair to balance it out

I’ve been wearing my hair straight for 30 years!!!! You have super curly hair and you say when you started to go back curly, your hair had waves rather than curls. In your opinion (and experience) how many steps up do you think curls go when you have been straightening for so long? The bottom layer of my hair is about a 2c but the top is 2a/2b and I’ve just started wearing it curly.

Could try a patch test on your arm, I did that with products from another brands line in the past. curlsmith products are very clean though, my personal experience is the opposite my hair seems to love them so much, I have also got denser and fuller hair over the time I’ve used them, so whilst I can’t say they’re products have made my hair grow more I can say that they haven’t caused me any loss of hair. Ditch the gluten and lactose and do a blood test to see your level of B vitamins and ferritin (not iron in general). Once you have taken care of this, your hair will start growing again. It took me four years to figure it out, so I thought I'd save you some time 😂

For hair loss- you may want to turn more to holistic medicine, and working with a naturopath. I’m working with one that is more of an expert on Ayurvedic medicine so looking into Ayurvedic practices might also help with hair loss. But a naturopath can asses what is happening internally with your blood, gut, etc. and then give you a supplements routine that can create vitality in your hair :) that’s the journey that I have begun at least.

Bonus suggestion- Since you mentioned it in this video, can you post a step by step of how you oil and exfoliate and clarify your scalp and hair?
