hey bro! You're 100% right about this motor, it's awesome. I recently broke one of these in on my buddy's T-maxx. It runs cool, starts well and is a direct drop in. It seems the people complaining about it, just dont understand Nitro motor basics, you know. Really no alternative for any traxxas nitro other than this, as a drop-in motor, and not over 150 bucks.
For those who want to know, I got a few questions answered from Horizon Hobby today. If you want to upgrade the bearings to ceramics or better than stock, the rear bearing size is 10X19X5 mm, and the front bearing is 7X19X6 mm. All should be rubber sealed, with one side of the rubber on the rear removed before installation. Also, the factory needle settings for this carburetor are 3 1/2 turns out on the high speed needle, and 2 turns out on the low speed needle. Mine came at 2 1/2 and 4.5 turns out, respectively. Ignore the manual, they don't even list the .19 motor. I am installing mine this weekend, I'll let you know how it goes. TMaxx classic, I mean 1999 classic :)
I got a Dynamite .19t and when it had the original carb for the life of me, I could get it tuned properly. The best I could do is get it to more or less idle with the glow plug igniter on the engine and then it would would run briefly the it dies. all kinds of needle settings were tried and none of them would work at all. I ordered a SH .18 slide carb for it recently and this fixed the problems completely. It's now very easy to tune and it runs great! I idled through 2 tanks without any problems. I am not new into the nitro as I have been into nitro rc cars since 1995.
Yeah I have had that same problem before. And if you have the problem of it running like shit no matter what you do it's the back plate falling apart and sucking air
@@thebug4046 most places are backordered on it unfortunately. I'm going to rebuild the 3.3 with the Losi 3.4 carb on it however. Thanks for all that info as well!
I have to say that I read about the Dynamite 19 exhaust leaking but I don't have that issue. This thing is easy to tune and powerful. I used the exhaust flange for the air filter. I have this on my Nitro Rustler and it rips the tires off the rims! I found the same with the settings for break-in.
Your right about traxxas bought my first nitro a few weeks back ran it at factory settings for break in and in utah I'm high elevation so it was super lean. i’ve been searching around for a while but am relatively new to nitro, can you explain the comparative differences between an o.s. .21 and the dynamite .19 in your video? Thanks so much for the videos by the way. They’ve been super informative.
To keep it as simple as possible the 19 is smaller than the 21. The 19 is a 5 port the 21tm is a 3 port. Both are designed for Traxxas cars and trucks if you are on a budget the 19 if you have extra money the 21tm
Hey man awesome video. I got this engine for my Rustler. I see that everywhere, even in one of Adam Drakes videos, they say to idle the first 3 or 4 tanks of fuel at a rich setting at around 180F - 210F. Usually people pre heat the engine to help it get up to temp. I noticed you dont really use engine heaters or heat guns so I was wondering if you can share your break in technique and how you get your engines up to operating temperature. Since the engine will idle very rich (running cool) for the first few tanks, how am I supposed to get it up to around 180F? I tried wrapping the head with foil and even some cloth and the engine temp still doesn't get near 180F much less 210F. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance bud and keep up the awesome videos!
Actually I do use a heat gun I often don't relieve film the break in process because it's boring as shit im using a cell phone to do my videos so it's kind of Tedious and time consuming But yes I do preet my engines and keep them wrapped and duty item tags I've always done that way in fact my break in methodist slightly different i burn a quart of fuel It's just people keep asking me the same questions over and over and over again which gets a little bit irritating some just like OK this method works follow that video rather than me expecting it over and over again lol
I think the header is the only thing stopping me from ordering it. Can’t find a good header for the rustler that will fit it the stick one is kinda loose from what I’ve seen
Got my dynamite in today and ran one break in tank. I have a THS manifold coming but I used the traxxas one for beak in and was getting a really big exhaust leak from the motor so I used a fatter o-ring and that fixed it. It wanted to get hot on me around 250 degrees at the glow plug I riching it up as much as I could man this motor is tight. Hopefully I’ll get some more tanks in tomorrow. Wish me luck.
250°f is absolutely fine mine runs about 270 at its best. Also Don't tune by Temperature it won't help. Tune until running its best. Also your gunna need more then 1 tank for brake in. At least 6 or so
Ok thank you I get a little worried when it gets hot. The first tank was idling and I plan on idling 3 more tanks and giving it a little gas to clean it out a little and two more tanks running it around not giving it much throttle. I normally on new engine don’t tune it until I get 8 tanks in it and let it cool between tanks.
I got the second tank run in the dynamite last night and it did way better than the first tank. Temp stayed around 250f. I’m running Bones Brew 30/10. I have a gallon of VP 20/10 I run in my 3.3 and 2.5 but I like the Bones Brew better. I also have some 927 that I run in my Yamaha Banshee I might add a little of that. Thank you for the videos and help and keep burning nitro.
@@Jasonkartracing 30% is always better and be careful you don't really want to much oil you don't want anymore then 12% it will start making the tuning window smaller. Also do a small test batch like 20ML fuel and 5ML oil mix and let it stand overnight in a air tight container to make sure the oils are compatible and will stay blended. If you want to add extra castor oil my suggestion would be to buy 8% oil then add your castor oil till you achieve 10% oil
Hey,man! Does.19 fit on Traxxas nitro 4 tec? Or are there any other replacement engines like OS 21 TM? I just wonder if all .21 engines are universal or not, like do they have the same mounting and exhaust port dimensions ? Thanks in advance!
I am considering this engine for my 3.3 t-maxx as it’s worn out and has no pinch left..I can get a new replacement from traxxas for like $120 so it’s gonna be about the same cost either way I go, I’m probably gonna go with the 3.3 cause I love the power! I am aware of the 3.3 issues and I also have heard about the issues with the dynamite so kinda seems like there’s no real good option.
The biggest issue with the 19 now is trying to get the exhaust to seal up. Otherwise it's a good runner. The 3.3 makes more down low vs the 19 makes more up top. When you run a 3.3 do the one gallon tune up os lc4 plug new rod wrist pin and a good set of bearings and they last. Especially with a good quality fuel. I try to buy fuel at 8% oil and bump it to 10 or 11% with additional klotz castor oil and they live forever same with most any engine
@@thebug4046 hmm, yeah I’d really like to try it but the exhaust is a big thing to me. The dynamite seems to be the way to go considering you don’t have to worry about the rod snapping but don’t the starter plate bearings go bad in the .19?
@@thebug4046 Nice, yep I saw your video on the mix you made, was looking at this exact engine for a replacement, and thought it would be great if the 19 ran well on the 0 mix you make. Thanks for the info! Yea nobody sells fuel around me here and the shipping and Hazmat is crazy. Cheaper if can run this without nitro mix than to order Morgan 30
@@vic7322 You can order VP fuel from Bones motorsports pretty easily online I can't send a link cause they don't sell or ship to Canada unfortunately but like I had mentioned if you can get methanol and klotz super techniplate oil mixed it in a 90/10 Ratio just remember to measure by fluid ounces and you will need a hot plug. OS #6 os os lc3
@@vic7322 nice just keep in mind the A3 Is a short reach plug not suitable for all engines. Especially if you're engine takes a standard long reach plug
The question that I really want answered… how does the performance of .19 dynamite engine compare to a Traxxas 3.3 engine that is equipped with the O.S 11K carb. The 11k carb turns the 3.3 into a beast, I think the difference between the 11k carb and the stock Traxxas carb is dramatically noticeable. do you think this engine outperforms the 3.3 with the 11K?
The 3.3 with an 11k carb half decent pipe and 30% fuel will usually out run the 19 especially in something like a revo since the 19 makes less torque then the stock 3.3 but being a 5 port make more RPM.
@@thebug4046 I see, that’s what I assumed. So it revs higher that’s what you’re saying. So if I put it in my jato I will have a little less torque and acceleration but more top speed? With all factors being the same such as using the same percentage fuel / glow plug type/ gear ratios / and tune. I’ve been really curious to put this engine in my jato. But I’ve been wondering what the upside might be since I was sure the 3.3 makes more torque being a larger displacement. What about the 11K carb. Does it fit in a dynamite .19, or is the neck too wide?
@@ryanlarbi8157 Sorry for the late reply I get like 3000 comments a day that I have to try to catch up with and no the 11K will not fit the 19 no need for it since the 19 already has a really good carb on it that flows almost just as much as far as comparing the two in the truck that you have I have no idea. Play with them and see what you like more. I gave up on the 19 no parts support for it and the crank broke in half So I went back to a 3.3 since I get get parts. I have only ever ran both engines in a tmaxx with stock gears and the 19 felt under powered
@@thebug4046 I’m confused, since you mentioned the 19 is a better performing engine with more top end. But now you’re saying it’s underpowered in a. Tmaxx?

@@Jasonkartracing sounds good
I got the second tank run in the dynamite last night and it did way better than the first tank.
Hi nice video what’s the Starter Shaft size 6mm or 8mm ?
Probably 6 if I had to guess. Will take all the same starter parts as the 3.3
Hey,man! Does.19 fit on Traxxas nitro 4 tec? Or are there any other replacement engines like OS 21 TM? I just wonder if all .21 engines are universal or not, like do they have the same mounting and exhaust port dimensions ? Thanks in advance!
Os 21tm and Dynamite 19 are directly designed to fit all Traxxas cars and trucks

@@thebug4046 BUMP!
11k won't fit. This engine the oem carburetor runs great!
I just got a Dynamite .19 from the hobby store.
I guess it is the older one the pull start is super hard.
I might buy a new back plate for it. I also bought Bluethunder 20% nitro and 11% oil. Is Bluethunder any good. The ths pipe is really hard to find in Canada. I might get XTM .18 tmaxx exhaust.
They did correct the issue with the back plate and that fuel is good! No problem! And the back plate with a dot or 2 is the new one

I can not get mine to idle for break in at all. Set all the needles to factory, 2 turns out on both, cranks, idles for a bit dies.
