- I love my iPad. I love that it gives me even more freedom than my laptop...Or did. Now I'm forced to use it around outlets. My iPad needs a new battery so today I'm going to show you how to replace the battery in an iPad so we can get back out in nature together or at least away from the outlets.

Thank You!! This just saved me from buying a new iPad. My iPad was trying to restart and kept crashing because the battery couldn't hold charge.
I took it to the Apple shop, they told me it is a hardware problem, that I should buy a new one for $500+.
I bought a new battery and followed your steps
It works perfect now! only $30 to fix.
A tip, when taking the battery out, use a plastic spatula or plastic flipper to get under the battery.

Thanks, great - very easy to follow video, allowed me to change out my knackered Ipad3 battery for a working new one, took 20 min from start to finish, I used a very thin wallpaper scaper for getting the final battery out, just made that last push so much less hassle.
That IS NOT a glued screen!! She's holding it down while pretending to separate glue that isn't there. I can promise you it is NOT this easy to put a pick in there and slide it down. Watch the video carefully. At all times she's inserting the blue pick, she's pushing down on the screen to hold it there.

Excellent video, could do with some more close ups though. Time and patience is key to this. I did find that you don't have to remove all the ribbons from the board before removing it, just undo the 4 screws and you can lift it enough to remove the battery. I also broke the seal on the glass with a scalpel blade and removed the battery with a butter knife. Pretty risky but do able.

worked great! saved a lot of money. worst part was getting the battery unstuck from the case!
Nice video. I found, however that I was able to remove the battery without removing the MB. I loosened the MB and was able to lift it enough on the battery side to slip the battery connector off the alignment peg. It is safer to remove the MB, of course but this worked for me. Also the battery glue is very strong. I started by lifting the bottom 1/3 portion of the battery after heating the back alot. Good luck! BTW, my iPad now will charge to 100% much more quickly now.
using alcohol also helps in loosing the adhesive
Just don’t drink too much or you’ll start seeing double!!

Looks so easy in the video, but the spudger is soft plastic and dulls quickly making it difficult to pry up the glass. Mine cracked before ever getting it up high enough to get a pick under it 😬. Highly recommend you have a new digitizer panel ready cause I can’t see getting this off without breaking the glass.

Used own the ipad 3. At the time it was a marvel of engineering. I could feel and see the quality. It was heavy tho but I didn't care. It special.

Apple want users to keep buying their ipads, etc, thats why they make repairing them difficult. However, with patience and practice it does get easier. I have repaired two screens so far and I am going to replace the battery in my ipad .

What about adhesive for the battery I seen tons of videos and not a single one says anything about adhesive and haven’t found it for sale anywhere they have them for iPhone but what about the iPad should I just get the one for the 6+

So my girlfriends ipad battery swelled and of course, stopped working. I bought a new battery and installed it before watching this video, the only thing i cant seem to figure out is the little ribbon wire that comes from the cover. it pulled out of the location it goes to and i dont know if i am getting it all the way in or not. Regardless of the wire, the ipad will not come on at all, it wont show life when i try to charge it either. Could the old battery swelling have dont something to the rest of the ipad?

excellent and professional video, my battery was working fine but when changing the broken glass, by mistake in the handling disconnect the "connector" from the battery but now when watching your video or tutorial I realized my error, I already connect it and it works perfectly ... thank you, I love you and I want to marry you ... It looks to me that the iPad, by design, was never meant to be opened again. So if Apple claims they can't verify state of battery-life (less then 50% or not) because damage to the glass prevents them from applying their measuring-method, then that is just so much hot air and bad excuses not to uphold their applecare protection plan battery-change guarantee, yeah?
Answering this would really help me as I'm filing a lawsuit against them to have them replace my iPad due to it's battery having run it's lifespan.

thearoom apple makes by purpose to put the battery waaaaaaay inside their products. It makes things difficult to replace. Why the batteries on ipad and iphone are not easly removable like on Samsung products??

My ipad 3 is charging very slowly. Like 3% only per hour. Is the battery the problem? I bought new cable and adapter but it's still bad. It became faster for a short time, like 6%, but now it's back to 3% per hour.
shinyeon23 the charge controller built in the lithium ion battery recognizes how low the health is, and is trying to prevent any further wear by reducing charge speeds. A new battery would help.
Replaced digitizer & battery (not from iFixit) and everything seems good except battery is at 5% after many hours of charging. Is this some kind of a calibration issue or did I just go through all of this simply to install a defective battery? How do I differentiate between the two cases?
Unhappy if the latter is the case. If the former is the case, how do I force recalibration.

Quite frustrating. After doing everything right another thing went wrong. The digitizer developed a small crack right through the the middle of the front facing camera area.
After I had put it back together, I felt of it and it did not feel like the digitizer had completely adhered along two small sections so I tried to reapply heat and force. It either happened when I heated the upper part of the digitizer or when I pressed down on it with my fingers (I felt nothing unusual with my fingers so heat stress is possible). I don't feel that it should have cracked with no real displacement being involved and no sharp forces (much less due to uneven heating).
why did you replaced the battery again? Does this help fix the ipad not charging error?
I got an Ipad 3 that even when connected only shows the battery with very low charge icon will this procedure help? Thanks.

actually i just needed to stack charge the device. Had a high speed usb charger and after I left it connected for a while it came back to life.
esesolox3 high speed cable ?? I recommend just using the iPad charged Apple gives you, a lower Walt charger for the iPhone would take forger

Mine lasted 6 years until wouldn't charge. I followed this video and replaced the battery, its like having a new ipad.

I absolutely refuse to work on these things. I build and repair computers but I absolutely hate working on small items like this because my fingers are pretty big.
¿Anybody who has done it could tell if it's safe to do this? I've done something similar to this just to change an old iPod battery and an iPhone one, too. I don't know if it's not too risky to do on an iPad.
FYI: not that easy to remove from the original bcos the double-sided tape is really strong, u will broke it easily, cos i have done it before. I change my back housing case.

I play piano as well so I have these huge banana hands. I really love the iPad though. It is a great tablet. I have this model. I don't consider myself someone that must have the latest and greatest in a tablet. This is a great tablet though. I have the 64GB version.

this makes zero sense...Apple will replace your iPad that has a bad battery for $99. Why would you buy a tool kit and a battery and do it yourself? You end up spending about $99 and YOU do the work. Ridiculous.
