Even though I'm a White Capetonian, this is exactly how my mother cooked as well. Those bredies in winter were the best - we had very little money and she could make a meal tasty and it could streeeeeetch to feed everyone. Only now realising how Capey we all are, White, Brown or Black, we all share this wonderful, unique Cape culture - and I wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you Fatima for sharing the recipes for the home-cooked food we grew up with. Memories galore.

Morning all how this reminded me of my late father "daai art apple kos het a carrot and a squash in gekry but it was nice and he put in all spice and cloves but aunty Tiema it looked very nice

My potatoes never brown like yours.
You have to slowly brown the onions and meat until we’ll browned. Then the potatoes will take on that brown colour.
