100% When he brought dresses she said she would want a jacket or something with the sleeveless dress to cover them up so her dad didn't see the tattoo and his first words are "so this is the big reveal". No, she just said she DIDN'T want to reveal it to her dad right now. Then he pressured her into trying the sleeveless dress on, even though she was concerned her father would be so upset he wouldn't pay for the wedding . And him acting like she was being difficult and overdramatic even though she made it clear in the beginning exactly what she wanted and what her concerns were. If they hadn't been going for drama, they would have started with the third one.

But I don't imagine she wanted to have this conversation while a) being filmed for TV, b) during a special day for her, and c) in front of a real audience of strangers, friends and family at the store. Her dad handled it well, but if he hadn't it could have really messed up what was supposed to be a special day for her. And it would have all been caught on television and edited to make it look even more dramatic. It would have been better to tell him before, but she still should have been able to choose how and when she told her dad about the tattoos, not had it decided for her.

You don't get the money, or the time to sit, for a tattoo like that and then just go "oops, I was young." She was most likely in her early 20s when she started it. So the "I was young and dumb" excuse is kinda thin imo. You get to say young and dumb when you're like 40 and did something silly in your 20s. You don't get to say young and dumb when it was something you did like 4 or 5 years ago 😄
I have a great relationship with my dad too. But there are a lot of things that I can't talk about with him... It just makes it awkward and uncomfortable idk why it's like that but it is...
Maybe there relationship is 'good' because she hides things from her dad because I can strongly relate to her in that regard because sometimes there's just know other way to save myself from my dad if I don't lie to him about a lot of things.

I acknowledge what you're saying about impulse control, but he couldn't even put that aside on camera to be happy for her finding a dress. To be quite honest, I'm concerned about what he was like once the cameras were off and they were out of there.
I honestly feel like if her sleeve tattoo wasn’t in color (or less color), it would look fine with the dress. I think the color specifically clashes with the white. But at the end of the day, nobody gets a tattoo solely to make sure it’s compatible with their wedding dress😂
It depends on the wedding too. If you're having a lot of older relatives and it's a traditional wedding and your or your partner's family are quite conservative then it might not be appropriate for the particular occason

That is true, but in the long sleeved dress I instantly saw the girl, while in the no sleeve dress I only saw the tattoo and actually had to force myself to see the gown and bride. As large and colorful as her tattoo is there is no way it wouldn't be the main focus, so why buy an expensive dress?
I think it hit dad so hard because he believed in their close relationship and then she not only did something he wouldn't want but kept it from him. I'd feel like maybe we weren't so close afterall. It took many trips to the artist to complete a full color sleeve. He obviously accepted her choice to get tattoos by the smaller ones he'd seen but felt slapped in the face by the secret she kept from him and revealed at the worst possible time. I feel sad for both of them. Her regret and his loss of faith in how close they really were.
Yeah, this was definitely not the place for her to show him the tats for the first time. The poor man probably feels like a fool for confidently talking about how close they are to everyone only for something like this to be revealed to him in front of cameras and a bunch of strangers on a day that's supposed to be happy.

She's taken pains to hide it for 10 years from someone she obviously loved, and he feels betrayed, likely from her secrecy and the realization that he did not know something important about her. Some parents ignore what they don’t want to see. I’ve had a tattoo since I was 16 I’m 23 now and my mom has never noticed. It’s on my wrist/hand and I stoped trying to hide it once I turned 18. She still has no idea. Of course the full sleeve is another story.

I hid my tattoos from my dad, but eventually I stopped caring. He didn’t take well to it, but he eventually came around. However, not every person will react that way.

Personally I don’t like nose piercings. Had been telling my kids for years not to get one after my oldest got his lip pierced and it got badly infected. Then my daughter got her septum pierced. 🤷♀️ I now buy her the occasional nose ring as a present. 😂 We laugh that my dislike of nose rings is over-powered by my love of anything sparkly.

I kept my sleeve a secret from my parents for 3 years (and I was still living under their roof at the time) before a similar situation arose and I was a bridesmaid for my brother's wedding 4 years ago where I couldn't hide it anymore. To this day my dad disproves of the sleeve (not a fan of tattoos in general) and calls it ugly from time to time depending on his mood but that's ok with me, I just remind him it's a good thing the sleeve is on my skin and not his and that I'm happy to live with it (and all my other tattoos) for the rest of my life ❤

When I see people's tattoos, I usually ask if there's a story behind the choice of the tattoo. I've heard everything from, "I was drunk and my friends were getting them, to the touching story of it honoring a loved one, including a lady whose son who had taken his life 1 week earlier. I hugged and prayed for her, then asked her to tell me about her son. I could really understand the tattoo choice, and wished I could have known him

Well some people really love their parents and in certain aspects they have a good relationship ...but they also know things their parents don’t tolerate. And in fear of not wanting to disappoint them and ruin that bond, they hide it maybe. That’s what I would assume. I love my mom but there are things that if she knew/saw, I’d hate for her to be disappointed in me for.

A silly mistake was my first tattoo at 17, a whole themed sleeve is a real commitment its something she wanted. It wasn't a drunken one time mistake, that is several sessions. Non of my tattoos match like that 😂 I think dad realised their relationship isn't as close as he thought because she kept such a huge secret from him 💀
When you have a "close" relationship with someone who will react do badly to a choice you have made them what you have is a dysfunctional relationship... I suspect she's only letting him know today because she's in a space where other people will prevent his him reacting too badly. How is it dysfunctional simply because someone might have an adverse reaction? Are people (parents, no less) supposed to have no feelings on anything simply because "it's a choice you have made"? Obviously it depends on what the choice is, but that seems like a very broad statement. As a 38 yo heavily tattooed woman whose dad doesn't know about my tattoos...I agree with you. I totally understand and support her right to have kept them secret, but this was definitely wrong time and place for a reveal. That really wasn't fair. Ever since I was 18, I wanted a tattoo. I always knew it would be in memory of my best friend who died when we were freshmen. I finally decided on a design and got it done for my 22nd birthday. Both of my parents aren’t fans of tattoos, but I knew my mom would be understanding after knowing what it meant to me. I told her the day before I went, but was too afraid to tell my dad. My dad didn’t speak to me for 2 whole days, he refused to even look at it. It wasn’t until my uncle made a comment about how big it was (from shoulder blade to shoulder blade) that my dad became curious enough to want to see it. My uncle showed him the picture I posted on Facebook and he called it a “monstrosity” because of the size. He eventually cooled off and told me “don’t ever come home with any part of your body pierced, besides your ears.” Good thing I’ve never been into body piercings, or else I might be disowned by now 😂
Ugh, my father surprisingly didn't make a big deal out of the small tattoos I have, but at some point he made a similar comment to yours, don't come home covered in tattoos with half your head shaved blah blah blah. Well, now my hair is falling out, guess I'm not a person anymore. It's great finding out your parents only love you for superficial reasons. Not that that was my first clue...

So I am someone who loves tattoos. I've been talking about getting tattooed since I was a teen, yet my parents don't like them at all. The feeling of showing them my first tattoos was horrible (and I was 27 when I got them) - I cannot imagine how much stress and anxiety this girl's feeling having to keep it hidden from her dad all the time and how many bad feelings she has about her tattoos because of him. His reaction overshadowed her picking her wedding dress... She might have wanted a sleeveless one, but had to settle because of her dad. Parents need to get over themselves. It's permanent and it's already done so all they're doing is upsetting their children and adding a bad memory and significance to something that their children initially liked. I told my parents that I didn't need their approval or appreciation, I'm just informing them that I got tattooed and am planning to get more, but the whole thing made me so anxious I could have thrown up. When I got my biggest tattoo, one that I really wanted, I had a panic attack anticipating their reaction (and it's not even that big, @ 4 cm). I wish parents understood that their children's body doesn't belong to them.
If your parents are paying for things like your wedding dress and wedding then it is their business.. maybe children should understand the money doesn’t belong to them but you will sure want it when they pass away or you ask them to pay for something

I have been to a few weddings where the bride had many tattoos but for the wedding shows to have them covered up. There is special makeup for this. It is waterproof it doesn't smudge on the dress it is great and nobody knew that she had tattoos! Some don't care and choose to display their tattoos but for those who don't want to there are ways to cover it up with great great makeup.
He might have been more accepting about a dress that showed her tattoos if she had told him about the tattoos years back when she had it done...he said himself he's not disappointed, just shocked.
The first dress looked beautiful on her and blended with her sleeve tattoo in a way that it looked magical. I wish her dad would have known about her arm before the appointment and maybe he could have gotten over the shock some, because I think he missed out on seeing the first dress on her in person. This was the first time I've seen tattoos that looked good with a wedding dress. Imagine her in the first dress wearing a veil and flowers that complimented the colors in her tattoo.

I acknowledge what you're saying about impulse control, but he couldn't even put that aside on camera to be happy for her finding a dress. To be quite honest, I'm concerned about what he was like once the cameras were off and they were out of there.
I honestly feel like if her sleeve tattoo wasn’t in color (or less color), it would look fine with the dress. I think the color specifically clashes with the white. But at the end of the day, nobody gets a tattoo solely to make sure it’s compatible with their wedding dress😂

It depends on the wedding too. If you're having a lot of older relatives and it's a traditional wedding and your or your partner's family are quite conservative then it might not be appropriate for the particular occason

That is true, but in the long sleeved dress I instantly saw the girl, while in the no sleeve dress I only saw the tattoo and actually had to force myself to see the gown and bride. As large and colorful as her tattoo is there is no way it wouldn't be the main focus, so why buy an expensive dress?

I think it hit dad so hard because he believed in their close relationship and then she not only did something he wouldn't want but kept it from him. I'd feel like maybe we weren't so close afterall. It took many trips to the artist to complete a full color sleeve. He obviously accepted her choice to get tattoos by the smaller ones he'd seen but felt slapped in the face by the secret she kept from him and revealed at the worst possible time. I feel sad for both of them. Her regret and his loss of faith in how close they really were.

She's taken pains to hide it for 10 years from someone she obviously loved, and he feels betrayed, likely from her secrecy and the realization that he did not know something important about her. Some parents ignore what they don’t want to see. I’ve had a tattoo since I was 16 I’m 23 now and my mom has never noticed. It’s on my wrist/hand and I stoped trying to hide it once I turned 18. She still has no idea. Of course the full sleeve is another story.

I hid my tattoos from my dad, but eventually I stopped caring. He didn’t take well to it, but he eventually came around. However, not every person will react that way.

Personally I don’t like nose piercings. Had been telling my kids for years not to get one after my oldest got his lip pierced and it got badly infected. Then my daughter got her septum pierced. 🤷♀️ I now buy her the occasional nose ring as a present. 😂 We laugh that my dislike of nose rings is over-powered by my love of anything sparkly.

I kept my sleeve a secret from my parents for 3 years (and I was still living under their roof at the time) before a similar situation arose and I was a bridesmaid for my brother's wedding 4 years ago where I couldn't hide it anymore. To this day my dad disproves of the sleeve (not a fan of tattoos in general) and calls it ugly from time to time depending on his mood but that's ok with me, I just remind him it's a good thing the sleeve is on my skin and not his and that I'm happy to live with it (and all my other tattoos) for the rest of my life ❤

When I see people's tattoos, I usually ask if there's a story behind the choice of the tattoo. I've heard everything from, "I was drunk and my friends were getting them, to the touching story of it honoring a loved one, including a lady whose son who had taken his life 1 week earlier. I hugged and prayed for her, then asked her to tell me about her son. I could really understand the tattoo choice, and wished I could have known him

Well some people really love their parents and in certain aspects they have a good relationship ...but they also know things their parents don’t tolerate. And in fear of not wanting to disappoint them and ruin that bond, they hide it maybe. That’s what I would assume. I love my mom but there are things that if she knew/saw, I’d hate for her to be disappointed in me for.

A silly mistake was my first tattoo at 17, a whole themed sleeve is a real commitment its something she wanted. It wasn't a drunken one time mistake, that is several sessions. How is it dysfunctional simply because someone might have an adverse reaction? Are people (parents, no less) supposed to have no feelings on anything simply because "it's a choice you have made"? Obviously it depends on what the choice is, but that seems like a very broad statement. Your body your choice could also apply to taking drugs, becoming a call girl, or any number of much worse things that would break the heart of any caring parent.
Daddy’s girl sadly usually stands in for enmeshment/emotional incest on the side of parent. A kid who learned through emotional outbursts and abuse from the parent, to people please to stay on their parent’s good side. She would not be afraid of telling him if he wasn’t a rager or worse. As a 38 yo heavily tattooed woman whose dad doesn't know about my tattoos...I agree with you. I totally understand and support her right to have kept them secret, but this was definitely wrong time and place for a reveal. That really wasn't fair. Ever since I was 18, I wanted a tattoo. I always knew it would be in memory of my best friend who died when we were freshmen. I finally decided on a design and got it done for my 22nd birthday. Both of my parents aren’t fans of tattoos, but I knew my mom would be understanding after knowing what it meant to me. I told her the day before I went, but was too afraid to tell my dad. My dad didn’t speak to me for 2 whole days, he refused to even look at it. It wasn’t until my uncle made a comment about how big it was (from shoulder blade to shoulder blade) that my dad became curious enough to want to see it. My uncle showed him the picture I posted on Facebook and he called it a “monstrosity” because of the size. He eventually cooled off and told me “don’t ever come home with any part of your body pierced, besides your ears.” Good thing I’ve never been into body piercings, or else I might be disowned by now 😂

So I am someone who loves tattoos. I've been talking about getting tattooed since I was a teen, yet my parents don't like them at all. The feeling of showing them my first tattoos was horrible (and I was 27 when I got them) - I cannot imagine how much stress and anxiety this girl's feeling having to keep it hidden from her dad all the time and how many bad feelings she has about her tattoos because of him. His reaction overshadowed her picking her wedding dress... She might have wanted a sleeveless one, but had to settle because of her dad.
Parents need to get over themselves. It's permanent and it's already done so all they're doing is upsetting their children and adding a bad memory and significance to something that their children initially liked.
I told my parents that I didn't need their approval or appreciation, I'm just informing them that I got tattooed and am planning to get more, but the whole thing made me so anxious I could have thrown up. When I got my biggest tattoo, one that I really wanted, I had a panic attack anticipating their reaction (and it's not even that big, @ 4 cm).
I wish parents understood that their children's body doesn't belong to them.

I have been to a few weddings where the bride had many tattoos but for the wedding shows to have them covered up. There is special makeup for this. It is waterproof it doesn't smudge on the dress it is great and nobody knew that she had tattoos!
Some don't care and choose to display their tattoos but for those who don't want to there are ways to cover it up with great great makeup.

The first dress looked beautiful on her and blended with her sleeve tattoo in a way that it looked magical. I wish her dad would have known about her arm before the appointment and maybe he could have gotten over the shock some, because I think he missed out on seeing the first dress on her in person. This was the first time I've seen tattoos that looked good with a wedding dress. Imagine her in the first dress wearing a veil and flowers that complimented the colors in her tattoo.
My dad hates tattoos as well but he still knows I have some. He understands that I like them and supports me making my own choices.

I don't think it was irrational for him. She should have given him heads up. Yeah sure it's television and they probably wanted drama but for someone who claims to be such a daddy's girl, she clearly made a mockery of him. Just as much as older generation act irrational, we aren't any less.
I don’t think it was her fault or his fault, but it was just bam in his face of course he’s going to be a bit shocked and maybe disappointed but maybe in a way because she didn’t tell him. Like I think if my child just told me that they had a bunch of tattoos on theirs arms I don’t think I would care all that much I would just be a bit disappointed about the fact that they didn’t tell me. The fact she knew exactly how her dad felt about tattoos, and she did a whole sleeve wasn't done in one night.
And she called it a dumb mistake done years ago. Stop if you don’t like it, It’s easier to get a bit removed than a whole sleeve. And what about the ones on her shoulder and ankle ?

I think it’s incredibly disrespectful of her to do that. I mean we all make mistakes but like you mentioned, a whole sleeve isn’t done in one day. And to hide a tattoo for years from him and claim that you’re super close to your dad? Poor guy he looked heartbroken

The worst thing that you can't remove tattoos ... she is a nice girl and care about her father ... but as she said it was a mistake and it is not easy to remove it
It can be removed, it just hurts a lot more than the tattoo itself, or so I’ve heard.

@@may36921 I've had several tattoos removed. It hurts, about as much as the tattoo itself, depending on the location on your body.
@@julied.9528 How do they look after removal? I was thinking also about surgery for certain sizes. Did it show a scar in the same shape of the tattoo or just a line?

If it really bothered her, she could have gotten it airbrushed on her wedding day. A lot of brides do it and if done well, it really does the trick.

If my dad ever acted like that about my tattoos, he can see himself out. If he didn't mean he'd pay for any dress I want (within the budget obviously), he shouldn't have offered to pay for any dress at all.
that is something my mom has always told my brother and i, she doesn’t care what tattoos we get but we need to remember they will be in your wedding pictures, pictures with your children, any special occasion, if you can embrace it go for it!
