Thank you so much for making videos on how to care for a Spinone Italiano! It made such a big difference when it came time to hand strip our puppy. He thanks you as well! I really appreciated your list of all the tools you use and technique when approaching that handsome scruffy face our family loves but that can get soooo gummed up.
Sure thing, here's the updated response: "Hi @andreametchick9925, thank you for the kind words on our video! I think one of our employees sees Bella during their neighborhood walks and always mentions what a lovely dog she is. Should you ever need some extra help with her grooming or anything else Bella might need, we're here and more than happy to lend a hand. Don't hesitate to reach out!"
Perfect I’m glad that you found it helpful. Just go slow you don’t have to finish all in 1 day. Most of all have fun time doing it with your dogs it can be a great way to bond with them.
Thanks for the instructions. I"m an imposter as I've got a GWP, but from a detailing point of view I don't see too much difference !! Oh, lord, don't shoot me down in flames all you lovely Spinone owners !
Hi Jason, thanks so much for the great video. My youngest Spin Aurora is nearly a year. When is the best age to start stripping her? My older Spin Bentley, I made the mistake of clipping his hair as I had no idea and was also scared to strip. He's hair is fine and fluffy due to the clipping so I dont want to make the same mistake with Aurora. Best regards, Patricia
Hi Patricia, thank you for the comment. I think you could start stripping Aurora anytime now. The fur should come out easily if not maybe wait a few months. I would start out using some positive motivation to get her on and off your grooming table, if you’re using one. Just start to strip little bits at a time you don’t have to strip you dog out all at once. I wound start with the body and work your way up to the head and face last as you feel more comfortable with your technique. Just remember that stripping your dog should feel good to your dog so if there is any discomfort you may want to adjust your techniques. That being said the face may not be your dogs favorite part to have stripped. I hope that helps. If you are not comfortable stripping her yourself or if you would like some 1 on 1 coaching if you live near CT maybe I can help if your up for a drive.
@@iamhoffer Thank you for your reply Jason! I tried a little on her back and came out quite easily but the head and neck wont budge, although I didn't pull hard. When you say CT, do you mean Cape Town in South Africa?
@@patriciadebeer341 sorry about that Patricia I meant Connecticut United States. I didn’t realize this video had such a wide audience. That is amazing 😀
@@iamhoffer 🤣 I just got really excited knowing you could help one on one. Thanks Jason, you've been really helpful and I definitely feel alot more comfortable with the idea of stripping!
@@patriciadebeer341 it is possible that the fur on her head and neck might Still be part of her puppy coat and it would have a different texture Puppy for a softer her adult coat will be more wiry and harsh feeling.. If that’s the case I would wait on those parts.

Hi. Which mars coat king do you use? Is it the stripping blades or the rake? You have a link in a comment but it didn't work for me. I have a wirehaired vizsla puppy and need to start buying grooming equipment. Your dog has similar coat and grooming needs.
Where can I find a groomer that is experienced in stripping? I have a white Spinone, almost three years old. I brush, comb, and use the Mars Rake, but she really needs to be stripped as well. I am in Northwest Westchester, but can travel to the right groomer.
+C. H. Park Jr. C.H. I am in Connecticut but I don't know any groomers in New York I could recommend to you. Sorry about that. One of the reasons I felt the need to make this video is because it isn't always easy to find a groomer that strips spinoni. One other thing is that it can be very expensive to have a groomer strip out your dog as it is very labor intensive. If you can find a local dog show there may be someone there that may be able to recommend a groomer to you.
Great video! I have been hand stripping my spinone weekly - not a ton but enough to get the loose hair out and keep him "tidy". Now I can see how to do it. I'm not sure how to tackle his face hair. Can you do another video that talks about how to shape the moustache and trim his eye hair? I do some with thinning shears but he wiggles around as much as your model was and as any spin owner knows they can be a spoogie bit stubborn.
+Kelly Czap Hi Kelly, Thank you for your comment. I have had a few people ask about doing the head so that is going to be my next video. I hope to have it ready later in the spring 2016. Kelly just in case you didn't can you please like this video and subscribe as that really helps me.
I normally wait until they are 8 months to a year before I start to strip them. It is important to keep it positive. If you feel your dog is getting stressed stop and give the dog a break. For young dogs 8 weeks and up you should practice touching them all over so that they get used to it including playing with there tows. That will be a big help for grooming later in life.
It's my personal preference, and here is why I have found that a lot of fur is shed in the bathing process. I also use a zoom groom brush in the tub to assist with that too. Since the dog is clean, I don't get that oily/dirty film on my hands or my tools. While that film may give you a better grip, I don't like it on me or my tools, so that's why I prefer to bathe the dogs first.
Spinoneh is pronounced with a short e sound at the end. Like when Italian (talking about real Italian not Italian-american) didn't hear something and they go eh? If you say spinonee it's plural (one spinone, many spinoni) the pronunciation you are using now with the long e is for the plural. Hope this was helpful, honestly if I had an American dog breed I would care to know the correct name pronunciation.
Well done! I have a red white Spinoni. I stripe my Spinoni by my self. Your videos are very useful for me, thanks a lot)
Thank you so much for letting me know it was helpful to you. I'm happy to help if you have any questions.

Thanks, Paul I am glad this video helped. I hope to get a chance to meet a GWP someday soon they seem like wonderful dogs too.
Might need your help when I (hopefully) get a Spinone Italiano to take me and my son hiking in Kettletown State Park. Can you recommend a breeder?
I have very good things to say about bellaspinone.com. Dan and Barb are amazing!

How young do you start stripping a Spinone?

We found our own Cajun pronunciations: Spinnew , Spin-#1, Spin-No-No, Spin-Noo-Noo, Spinnie-du-Dog, and my fav Hazel Líte Bienvenooo!
She's a squirmier Jason ♥ :) & very beautiful
