The only reason this is even happening is because the groomer stayed calm and patient and was very gentle but firm with the dog even if he was scared and defensive. The Shiba learned to trust her. She should teach grooming 👏👏👏👏❤

Honestly it doesn’t matter how young you start grooming with Shibas, they will still cry for everything. Any groomers handling Shibas should be paid more.
Mine don't cry if I'm there. I used gradual exposure and redirection. They need to make up their own mind, not be forced. Give them boundaries, but not too much training pressure at a time. Eventually they will tolerate most things without protest. And even cuddle! I groom them myself. My girl absolutely freaks out if she has to stay overnight or come out of anesthesia at the vet in a cage. They have to take her out to sit on a technician's lap or she will damage her mouth trying to escape. Poor girl. She is crate trained too, but being trapped without choices in a strange place is torture to her. I don't think it's dramatic. I think it's normal to have an existential crisis if you feel like you have no options.
Our Shiba was wayyyyy different. He didn't like getting his nails trimmed but he was fine with anything around his neck (never needed a muzzle though). He never whined ever just grunted alot. He also lived to almost 20 years old. Loved being brushed (after he got used to it). DID NOT TOLERATE THE BATH OR ANY POOL OF WATER. RIP Champ
So happy to know your Champ lived that long! Mine I never use soap just very little water & it’s good enough. No smell never a flea/tic problem. Lots of drama with the water it’s in & out.

Sounds like snowflake neighbors to me. Who calls the cops over parents hitting their kids for what could be discipline. Its not their problem and they should have just dealt with it
My Shiba is such a weirdo, he’s timid and never makes a noise. The Vets and groomers are always super impressed and tell us not to let him know he is a Shiba 😂

Don't master it. If a dog presents this behavior, use a cone, or a muzzle. She probably thinks she "knows the dog or the breed well enough" not to get bitten, but the dog was clearly uncomfortable and inclined to bite her. In the end, everything is fine, until it's not. All these internet "experts" saying how "amazing" she is would be calling for PETA and a shooting squadron if she got bitten, because: "Omg, she pushed the dog too far, what a terrible person!". Dogs may present certain traits when it comes to breeds, but in the end, every dog has its own particular behavior/temper. Growing up, my parents had 2 shibas. One when I was a child and another when I was a late teen. Both were females and amazing dogs. The first one unfortunately came from an abusive owner. How that happened is a mystery to me. She was super well behaved, possibly out of fear. She never whined about baths, nail trims or anything of the sort. The 2nd one however was a real baby about it. It was funny though. With all the teeth showing and yipping, she never growled or actually bit. And the moments after her baths were hilarious because she would run up and down the hallway and run circles in the living room. I feel like it was a game to her and she just liked to be babied. Her love never wavered.
Wow, this was amazing to watch. The love, empathy and compassion you showed that Shiba, is so heartwarming to watch. I’ve also had dogs and I believe in positive reinforcement and training. It’s repetition. Animals, like people, need to repeat and practice until they understand and that can take time and patience. It’s obvious she knows this dog, and I agree with your statement.
Again - I don’t like to hurt or scare an animal into behaving. I believe in building a relationship of trust and clear and repetitive training. But I always say, if it’s a question of my safety or the animal’s safety, I’m going to always choose the person and sometimes sweet words and treats aren’t enough, and some behavioural problems are deep-rooted and need a firm hand who isn’t afraid to present themselves as the alpha dog, or horse, the one who is in charge.
I love seeing her with this dog though. She really tried her best and thought outside the box!

Shiba's, Corgi's, Husky's, and German Shepherd's are always crybaby's with stuff like this
Kiwi’s parents should be extremely grateful for the care you took with her. So patient and compassionate. Good job. 👍

Eh theres no reason to be scared, some dogs have round smooth teath so even if they bite you it wouldnt really Hurt. This doggo is probably only a bit scared And confused whats even happening, its what my dog does He lays out his fangs And gum warning me but never attacks me or other People. Probably the only attack they can do is lightly bite you which does nothing you can hardly feel it, i dont know why your should be scared? @@UntrainableWizard oh, I'll try that next time. Thanks
It’s so impressive how she doesn’t even flinch when the dog snaps at her. Something I am still trying to master 😂
So yeah, if a dog gives you evident signs of "you're this close to losing a chunk of your hand", don't worry about flinching, worry about your hand.
@@thecomplexitiesoftheobvious I’m sure she knows there’s a high chance of being bitten… lmao that’s the risk u take when ur in this line of work. People should just use their brain and look for the signs of the dog letting them know they’re uncomfortable before they snap at u because 9/10 they’re showing that they’re uncomfortable before they bite. For example licking their lips is a sign of possibly being uncomfortable or nervous.. tail between the legs, having their hair up. Etc.. That being said the groomer shouldn't have hit the dog.
Yes, heartwarming.
I can tell why the groomer does the nails first - because the dog would scratch less with shorter nails (and that Shiba would try).
Fresh cut nails hurt more than before they're cut, they are jagged and rough until they get worn a bit.
@@lizziehan13 i think she was able to grind them down or smooth them out after she cut them
@@lizziehan13 she uses an electric nail file designed especially for dogs claws. The claw is inserted into a hole at the end and makes contact with a rotating file. She moves this tool in a circular motion which rounds out the end of the fresh cut nail.
They always cut nails first

Aww, what a sweet dog, she didn't actually dislike the groomer at the end of the day. There's no way she would've relaxed into her arms and started sleeping in the end if she had felt threatened. And that groomer is so patient and handled it in the best way possible ❤❤

I'm a groomer. This is excellent handling, cool and calm approach is key to a successful groom. She does not respond when the dog reacts and stays loving but firm. Excellent, excellent!!!

As a groomer, too, I agree. The child will never trust you if you don't act calm around them. If you're not calm you will never build up enough trust for a successful kidnapping.

I’ve got two shibas and they’re a nightmare for screaming! The amount of times my two have been mildly inconvenienced and have just started screaming in public is outstanding
AWOOOOOOOOOOOOKOO
sorry I'll see myself out
My pug does that. If you so much as graze his paw with your foot he screams like he’s been stabbed.
Honestly that's a mood though
I react to mild inconvenience like that and I'm a human
Sounds like a duplicate of mine, that is the second one.
This is one skilled and brave groomer! Fearful dogs deliver the worst bites!

Poor pooch. It wasn’t being mean, just terrified and reacting accordingly. She did well showing patience.
I love seeing her be kind even when the dog is snapping etc, it's cathartic to watch someone earn an animal's trust
Maybe after he gets a few more groom visits he can be less scared
not just patience but incredible knowledge of how to handle the situation...such as bouncing the dog like a baby...she's very knowledgeable.
I just realised 90% of what I recognise as a shiba is just their fluffy fur.
We all did 😂😂

Wow, this was amazing to watch. The love, empathy and compassion you showed that Shiba, is so heartwarming to watch.
You truly understand the breed, and I'm so happy to see, you learned how to treat them, on their terms, instead of just saying no to handling them altogether.
I actually though she looked very comfortable and safe with you, throughout the video.
As if she knew you were just trying to help, and looked like she tried to keep the tantrums to a minimum. What a lovely dog.
This made my day. Thank you so much
I came here because I was recommended this, stayed for the cute inu and the gentle groomer 🥺
I love how when a dog is being treated gently and kindly, they've got the most beautiful facial reactions. You can definitely tell alot about a person just on how they treat animals alone.
No you tell a lot by how they treat children or elderly people. Animals are easy to look after.
@@CannabrannaLammer animals can definitely sense if someone had hood energy or bad energy, people not so much it’s always 50/50 with people

@@getuliocunha4766 i got a pitbull and i can can giver her a bath just fine with no problems at all, its got nothing to do with the breed its all about trust, if the dog trusts you that dog will do anything you tell him/her to do without question, if the dog does not trust you then yeah your gonna have problems pretty quick... same concept with horses if the horse trusts your that horse will go into war without hesitation, but if that horse does not trust you youll be bucked off pretty quick

Desensitization to new stressors is key for these dogs. Kudos to the groomer for being patient, understanding the personality of the specific pet (Kiwi). Time, patience, and practice makes all of the difference. As well as having empathy. 😁💜
I love how calm she was when she was cutting the dog’s nails! She knew she was scared and wasn’t scared of her baring her teeth. You were very gentle with her!
Yeah, Shiba's can look scary and menacing pretty often, but they don't bite very hard, haha. Like you see at the end.
This dog is doing a lot of lip licking. This is a sign that the dog doesn't want to bite you. Although it is baring its teeth and lunging, they're not serious ill intended bites. It's when their lips are tight, that's when you want to be concerned.
But, that's just been my experience working with dogs.
This is how shibas are, they pretend to be wolves...lol
