    I enjoyed the fact that O.J. was just so freaking cool about everything, even at the jump scare moments, he would just quietly say, " Nope." And he was smart as well as reasonable, quiet, and very observant. He was like one of those friends that you might have in your group who doesn't have much to say and you think they're either lame or bored, but when they do speak up, their words become relevant and their statements, spot on. It's like they don't have time to mince words with you, but look out when they do talk because it's on then. And the only thing you can do is look at them in shock with your mouth hanging open and wondering, who is this person?

    • @slamdangles

      OJ grew up around those horses, so no matter what happens, he needs to be there to feed them and take care of them. Him recognizing this and putting them as a top priority was such a positive way to show masculinity. Jordan Peele always gives us healthy, strong men as main characters. And I really appreciate his work because of things like that.

    Something I haven't seen anyone bring up yet is the design of Ricky's aliens and how they're directly inspired by Gordy's Home. They've got furry, brown bodies, with his kids wearing actual monkey suits. Even more striking is the heads, being the same gray oval and two black circles as the cameras on the show's set (seen in front of the empty studio audience seats in the last "Gordy's Home" scene). It's a really cool detail and more proof of how affected Ricky was by the event.
    He calls them "the viewers" ....
    Heads like a camera ...
    All part of the spectacle
    Pretty cool thematic tie-ins in their design.

    After sleeping on it, I think the movie was more a allegory on social media and fame. How we are willing to go to great lengths to become famous and get a quick buck.
    Examples:
    Haywards wanting to capture it on video to get on Oprah. Never truly coming to terms the deal of their father. Thinking money will solve their problems.
    Ricky not dealing with the trauma and grief he suffered from that monkey attack and turning the alien into a spectacle in order to make money and become famous again
    The director getting the “perfect shot” and literally sacrificing himself to do so.
    Lot of people now a days sell their souls to become an influencer and only let the public see the best versions of themselves while burying any internal struggles.

    I just saw the film yesterday cuz it only released recently in India. There were so many details in this film. The first ever motion picture was of a black man riding a horse and the first ever clear ufo footage was going to be a ufo chasing a black Man on a horse.
    The cinematographer was suffering from cancer (he was taking pills) and he wanted the impossible shot which was of a prey's pov when it's being eaten by a predator (he was looking at film footages like that).
    It's about social media. The alien was being referred to as "the viewers" by Angel. They try to tame/capture the viewers. If you look at it (social media stars who get obsessed with viewership or followers), it sucks you in and eats you (your financial and social life and what happens to you are in the hands of your viewers/subscribers/followers now) .
    The movie references from ET (Gordy and Jupe's fist bump), close encounters of the third kind, Akira (motorcycle slide).
    An alien monster that looks like a flying saucer which looked like it came from one of H P Lovecraft's novels. Man this movie is gold. The reviewers saying this movie waa bad are absolute idiots.

    I don't think Holst's film was destroyed, especially since the alien rejects non-organic items. Holst mentioned the wheelchair on the roof and noticed all of the other junk, so he had to know that it does this. He also mentioned that Em wants to live the dream he is living everyday, which it is implied that he is not quite satisfied with it as he hasn't got his true idea of a perfect shot. He sacrificed himself knowing that the film would be rejected out of the alien ( there's a scene that indicated it did survive) with the impossible shot of the alien's mouth and possibly inside of it. Plus, there was another crank camera on the hill that Angel took over after Holst left with the other one.
    Plus, there was a huge film crew in the end of the movie at the park's gate, as the alien flew over the town, so probably a lot of other people caught it on camera also.

The worse case of scenario for the average person in town is that they had crappy phone cameras that didn't get a good shot, but the local news crew was at the park, so they probably got enough quality film saved up until the alien got close to the park. It's good when a director leaves some ambiguity. A lot of audiences want things drawn in crayon these days, but I really respect how some directors know how to practice restraint.
      Also, they didn't need to show how the images/footage were received because it's superfluous to the plot. That wasn't what the story was ultimately about.

    • @TheRealAgentZero6
      @TheRealAgentZero6 2 роки тому +1

    • @amouramarie
      @amouramarie Рік тому +1

      @@LadyAstarionAncunin There's too much ambiguity in film that's there just for the sake of it. Most of it feels like the director is faithfully employing some "essential art tips" they learned in film school about "leaving the audience wanting more." In Memento, the ultimate end of the protagonist's lifelong revenge chase is left ambiguous because it actually _doesn't_ matter, what matters is how the chase began, and the ending doesn't at all feel cut off or that something was deliberately unanswered to "make the audience think for themselves" or something. Here, I disagree the audience reception to the footage is superfluous to the plot. If the film is a commentary on spectacle, creating, capturing, and consumption of it, then there's absolutely reason to follow through with that thread to the end.
      On the other hand, Emerald's disinterest in the photos after the fight, and the fact they aren't followed up on could also be a message itself. Kind of like: you can only win the game if you stop playing/paying attention to the spectacle, or something. We want to see the chaos that unfolds when the pictures are released and they go on Oprah and the world sees - but that's the spectacle, that would be sensationalizing their traumatic event, and so it's denied to us. Or I'm talking out my ass, whatever.

    There were a couple of cool anime references in this movie, too. Emerald performs an Akira slide on the motorcycle during the climax of the film, and the design of the alien's final form is reminiscent of the angels from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Makes me wonder if they ever made a sequel, however unlikely, they might focus on cult worship of these creatures after being mistaken for "Biblically accurate" angels.

      Is “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena” really what UAP stands for?? I thought maybe it stood for Unidentified Alien Predator, which would make sense since the UFO is actually revealed to not be a ship, but instead an actual alien organism itself, that is also a predator (since it is obviously eating people). And also it would make sense why the government suddenly changed it from UFO to UAP, not only to confuse civilians, but also because maybe the government too realized the UFO was actually a living alien being itself, so they had to change the name from Unidentified Flying Object, to Unidentified Alien Predator in favor of something more accurate. But idk, that was just my theory.

    Rikki wasn't ignoring trauma to turn a profit as a child, that undermines the overall message the Peele was going for with that scene and the whole character of Rikki. You don't even go into whats confusing about that scene. The fact that the monkey doesn't kill Rikki. The monkey was tired of being used for these peoples entertainment, he was tired of being patronized, when the baloon popped he snapped, he didn't kill Rikki, (the only non white cast member on the show) because he understood they were using him as a token as well. the fist bump they would do, symbolizes "the agreement" one goes in on with a predator to earn it's respect. this history with an agreement with a powerful animal resonated in Rikki, it was the single most impactful moment of his life. So he felt like he could enter a similar kind of agreement with the alien.

    This didn’t answer any of my questions I had about the movie..
    why was the shoe floating upwards when Gordy was attacking the lady on set?
    Why was Jupe able to feed horses to the alien so many times before without being eaten himself?
    Why did the alien eat the tmz reporter when he had a full head covering helmet on and couldn’t be making eye contact with the alien?
    Why did the alien not chase OJ when he was trying to catch ghost?

    • @CubanaWriter
      @CubanaWriter 2 роки тому +132

      1) The shoe standing upward was a “bad miracle.” An impossible phenomenon. It ended up saving young Jupe’s life because he was so fixated on it that he didn’t look the angry chimp in the eye like the other cast and crew did. The angle at which he was looking at the shoe allowed the table cloth to obscure his eyes from the chimp. Hence why it didn’t go after him. But Jupe also learned the wrong lesson from the experience. He thought he was spared because he had some special connection with animals, which is why he thought he could tame Jean Jacket. In reality, he was just really lucky. Saved by a “bad miracle.”
      2) He kept them in that cage until the alien arrived and then would send them out running. The alien would capture and feed on the running horses from a far enough distance that it didn’t feel the need to go after Jupe. It would just take its meal and move on. When Jupe tried it on Lucky, Lucky wouldn’t leave the cage. So Jean Jacket had to get a lot closer to Jupe to get it. Also keep in mind Jupe had been rehearsing with his family at night up until then. It was probably harder for the alien to see them all. But it was way easier to see him with a crowd in broad daylight. And a much bigger meal than just one horse.
      3) The TMZ reporter’s helmet, while it did obscure his face, was reflective like a mirror. There’s a scene at the very beginning where Lucky sees his own reflection on a similar looking metallic ball and freaks out. It’s very likely the alien reacted in a similar way to when it came close enough to the helmet. Also, it could have interpreted the reflective helmet as a big giant eye looking at it. And once again, it had to assert its dominance.
      4) It was nighttime with no lighting when OJ chased after Ghost. And OJ wasn’t wearing any loud-colored clothing so that the alien could really see him. Ghost was white, making noise, and kicking up a lot more dust running. Plus, it was used to chasing and eating horses. It knew what they looked like running around. Simply put, Ghost was a lot easier to see than OJ was.
      Hope this helps.

I think it was a contributing factor, but I think the real reason was that fake horse was keeping it from feeding properly, and by the time it saw Jupe and the crowd, it was starving. Basically, Jean Jacket was hangry. A real deal horse that refused to leave its pen so it could get to it along with a bunch of human gawkers staring at it was the last straw. i rewatched the clip of them getting succed up and theres a flag u can see in the tube by the first guy and the decoy horse was stuck at the end and so the people were stuck in there too because it couldnt digest them and so when the alien hovers over the house i think it finally crushes/dissolves them in order to dislodge the horse and thats why it vomits/poops the blood and suddenly the screams stop.

      You are right. It probably takes awhile to digest food. That's why at times you can hear spooky noises of his previous feedings.       So, I watched another video and they explained it like this;
      The movie is all about the viewers obsession with the spectacle of violence. So, when people look at the alien (the spectacle) they die. The side show is all about celebrating the spectacle of violence, so, they're all killed, as is the film director with his obsession with "the perfect shot"
      The shoe was a "bad miracle", a fluke that kept young jupes attention focused on it, rather than the violence around him, ultimately saving his life. Had he looked at the chimp (the violence) he would gave been killed as well.

I’ve got a thousand of questions but a prominent would be, is it intelligent and able to think, or is it just a simple animal? Do we see the creature acting out of spite and hate, strategically threatening the ranch-dwellers with the blood and objects it ejects for denying it food and toying with it, or is it truly all instinctual? Lashing out in frustration like Gordy acts out in fear in primal fashion, ejecting it’s waste and the excess of food away from its feeding grounds, among other things?

    I have a theory that the Alien had the ability to control animals, because that monkey going rogue on set felt very unnatural, and also, that Bug landing on the camera right when the alien came out of disguise and then flying off right when it returned to the clouds, cant be a coincidence. That shoe was floating while the monkey attacked which indicates some form of supernatural involvement. And the monkey did attack rick because rick didn't look it in the eye, his eyes were blocked by the hanging table cloth of the table he was hiding under.

    Why was it so important to get the photo at the end if there’s probably a big jellyfish corpse for everyone to have a look at? Where was the win?
    Why did the alien change form?
    Why didn’t we learn about Jupe’s alien obsession before his show? Surely he has a secret room all about that too?
    And why didn’t the veteran camera man’s equipment get dropped from the alien proving evidence of the impossible shot?
    I felt like there were some editing decisions along the way that made some things confusing.

    • @GoopyPon
      @GoopyPon 2 роки тому +2

      I'll share with you some ideas I had!
      In a way, Em getting the final shot of the alien was like her finally taming her 'Jean Jacket' (the horse she was suppose to get for her birthday). The whole concept of the alien is to not look at it, and definitely not living after seeing its second form. So I believe it's seen as her winning, plus all attempts to capture it before may have been botched or destroyed, we aren't really sure.
      The alien changed form because if you remember, Angel got caught in barbed wire, and the alien inhaled the whole few feet (maybe yards) of it trying to get him. I think that was enough for it to flip itself inside out to release anything else that could of been lodged from it constantly eating non-organic things in those several intense minutes (the TMZ biker, the inflatable men, etc)
      His equipment PROBABLY did drop, as we see one of the camera tapes roll down the hill after it tries to attack Angel, and I'm thinking it dropped either A: When it changed form or B: When it exploded in the sky. Although a drop from thousands of feet, who knows if it would still be salvageable. That's why the ending shot of Em getting the picture feels a lot more satisfying, because it might be the ONLY clear picture.
      Hope that helps! Jordan Peele always has a reason behind every shot, but sometimes there's just.. so many things happening at once it's a lot of information to process.

      I don't think anything was too confusing, everything was deliberate and clear from the get go. Here are some of my interpretations.
      It was important to be the first one (obviously for monetary value and fame) and have the proof of the creature alive before it died or even before anyone else was able to take the photo (they also spell this out in the movie before neighboring folks started to swarm in). This ties beautifully with the whole first motion picture been black man riding the horse bit.
      This was a win in many ways, not only they would be able to save the ranch and their family's legacy but also in a way bring justice/ pay dues to the same first black man (as they claim this man to be their ancestor) who has gone unnamed in the history while the cinematographer gained notoriety. They touch upon this in the movie too.
      Alien changed or unfurled after trying to ingest Angel, whos quick thinking to wrap himself with barb wire saved his life, the alien got either extremely agitated or felt threatened. Think of a Cobra spreading its hood or a cats defensive posture make it seem bigger.
      Jupe wanted to keep this a secret to himself so that only he could profit off of this creature, like a wild attraction. It was his hubris and his prior incident with Gordy that he thought he had special connection with wild animal, he literally says he is chosen one in the movie before unveiling Lucky and he wanted be the one to "tame" the alien. That's why he gets very confrontational with OJ and Em when Em stole the horse statue, thinking that they are on to him.
      Maybe veteran camera man’s equipment did drop, maybe it broke on impact, maybe the sun exposure destroyed the footage anyway, maybe it got lost in rubble and the chaos of the rampage. I, personally like to think that somehow the footage did survive as at the very beginning of the movie we are shown the aliens green mouth/ crap shoot.
