This is Mind-3, a software that can run only on this kind of Aibo! Also available for this model are the Mind-2 and Mind-1 (Referred to as just "Mind") softwares. I believe Mind-3 here, is the only one of the three where the Aibo can talk!

Aibos do not run on regular sticks even if they are the same size and appearance, they only work on the special pink sticks specifically released for aibos because of copy protection. Theres a way to make non-aibo sticks with the software downloaded on it work, but you need a Sony Clie for that.

TAMAGO MARCE That means he’s either mind 1 or 2 or you have a mind 3 that set on tones rather than voice. You can change the settings by holding down Aibo’s first and last back sensors for a few seconds until he goes into voice guide mode..
Different mind card. You probably have either a mind 1 or 2 card. Im guessing that aibo is using 3. I dont own one but the card changes the actions of the bots.
If the battery is completely dead or if the charger is not plugged in and turned on it will do that. Make sure the charger is on and the battery indicator on the charger is going up then wait a couple of hours. If battery doesnt charge, you might need to get the battery refurbished. Make sure the power brick is the right voltage for Aibo. It needs 16 volts, positive center.

are the 7s always able to speak instead of "bark" or is it some sort of recognition software?
Wlfby it’s only mind 3 software where they can speak. You can also set them to ‘tonal sounds’ which is more like mind 2 sounds
