Really amused by all the well meant and in some cases expert advice on building brush fires. All well intentioned, I'm sure. I'm amused because Chris has probably built more fires than most people have had hot dinners. All this advice must be interesting. Anyway, as a bit of a pyromaniac myself (strictly amateur) I love to see one of those piles go off really hot. Thanks again Chris for sharing. NZ
Hi Chris this is Barry from Connecticut I found it easier to put diesel Fuel in a garden sprayer and spray it in a spot you have lit works better and cheaper don't waste it keep up the good work
looks like you can never really have a bad day. your videos always make my day. wish i got into operating heavy equipment, maybe when i move down south
i am a new subsriber and live in the Netherland, thanks for the video's i see of working in water , forest and lots of other thinks i enjoy it thanks many thanks
Another great video! Are you able to take draws or partial payments on some of these jobs when you have to leave for a few weeks? Love the drone footage! Thanks for sharing
You need to put a shoe scraper on the machine right below the door so you can get rid of that pesky mud! Love the aerials. That's going to be more of a lake than a pond. Nice. Stock it bass and bob's ur uncle. Thanks for the video.
Are you required to have a "Burn Permit" in NC? And how does it work with letting them burn over night? Does the state/county have guidelines for you to follow to their likings when it comes to burn piles?
Chris, is it possible to burn the windrows you make rather than them big piles? Seems like the little bit of dirt in the rows would be less problem burning thru than having to move the brush 2 or 3 times. No?
Hey Chris did you ever do anything about the roof window? Vinyl wrap or whatnot? Its out of view on the camera cant tell if ya had time to do it or not.
I have had great success starting burn piles with cardboard and diesel fuel in a garden spreader. I push the cardboard into the pile as far as I can and then spray the diesel on it and the surrounding brush. Then I light it. If the fire does not catch I spray some more diesel. Old timers around here swear by old tires deep inside the piles and used motor oil. I have never used tires myself but I did find the steel belts in the ashes of a fire my father-in-law build.
I get a kick out of your videos and from my side of the you tube screen it looks like you are having just to much fun. Getting to use big equipment to start big fires wish I could do that just once. My bucket list.
There was a couple times I lite real smallbrush piles on fire at home probably in 15 or so minutes I had fire dept. show up when I had a real fire my four wheeler caught garage on fire it took them close to a hour to arrive . anyways Chris good video
I notice your new Volvo has some handrail on it in Australia all new machines have handrails all round the back of the machine is this happening in the states There is a large highway being built up north were there is at least 80 to 100 excavators working on it all have full handrails on them
I would love your job as im in uk and it stinks at the moment regarding paying for your dozer and 360 tickets it cost a fortune over here keep digging love watching danny
I don't know where your at but seems to be muddy there a lot share some of that rain your getting I been loading dust in dump trucks for almost three weeks now
That excavator is a lot nicer to work those burn piles than the dozers that we used in the 70s. You just can't blow the fire with the excavator like the dozer will.
hey there bud just like to say thanx you inspired me to get my ticket so i just piad £2500 for my above ten tone with lifting operations ticket love you videos an do u have any tipsto help me threw lol keep digging man .
tore down and house and tried to remove a tree up by the house today. Cat 320 and a Cat 336 couldn't pull this tree in bedrock out of the ground, Ever run across something like that? We've had 40 foot burn piles since April, burn bans in effect, send us some of your rain.
Those machines need a water tank and pump so you can hose them mud feet down before you get in your cab. Fill it with creek or pond water or just piss in it through out the day after drinking those fountain sodas that are usually in the cup holder.
m60hein I did this modification to my excavator used a 24 inch pipe capped the ends and put a fitting and hose it gravity feeds to was boots works great
Go to the Farm Store and get you a 30 gallon 12 volt sprayer, fill it with offroad and used oil, spray and light upwind sides to compensate for wind change, problem solved and save moving the piles :)
Im curios ,why dont you build a burn pile as you would a campfire or fire in a fire place?..place a hay bale down (yup wont work in rainy weather) then use some of the larger trees, stumps whatever to build a tunnel or two into the bottom/center of the pile, then build from there, natural convection will pull the oxygen into the bottom/center of the pile and allow the fire to burn up into a chimney, thus burning up the pile.fire will always create its own "weather",look at some wildland fires from the west coast and you will see that on a wide scale.remember heat rises and as it does,it will pull air into the fire, but you have to build the channels into the burn pile as you build it.and stop just piling shit on top at the start, that heavy smoke is telling you to stop it,yer smothering the fire, taking the air away,a good hot fire will burn clean, plan for that. As wood burns,it will put off that heavy grey smoke, thats unburnt fuel, when you see the flame turn blue and not much smoke,.then you have a good fire, when ive seen you say,"that pile yonder is aburnin good" and you show the heavily smoking pile,i say out loud to myself...nope it aint burnin good...its smolderin to high heaven ,but it aint burnin...anyway,i spent many years puttin fires out,and only worked back fires a few times,,,i guess im saying im better at knockin em down that lightin em up..but try it sometime.this video also can show something else,if you are working on a slope, most of the time,as the air heats in the morning it will drive an air column up slope, and in the evening,as the outside air temp drops,it will then fall back down slope..so build your piles with air tunnels or openings facing the down slope and light mid morning as the air is heating up,you may not see the air flowing, but it will be.
The drone footage really shows how much you had to clear, great video and a great job. 👍👍👍

Very Nice again Chris, seven burnpiles looking nice, on the drone footage
The only difference between little boys playing with fire and big boys playing with fire is the size of their equipment.
And the big boys answer to nobody.
Haul it out here to California. Almost everything burns out here.
Take it out to California and use it to burn a bunch of liberals.
i am a new subsriber and live in the Netherland, thanks for the video's i see of working in water , forest and lots of other thinks i enjoy it thanks many thanks
I love the crunching sound of the wood when you pick it up.
The more I watch you run that excavator the more I think you could do a root canal with it.Fun to watch and hope it dries out soon.
Ya that's for sure, He needs to give jpaydirt a good lesson on the use of the thumb! Hahaha.
Take it out to California and burn a bunch of Conservatives right now!
Thanks for the video like the drone cam .
The way the sun is on the machine it looks brown instead of grey, it looks really cool yellow and brown a good looking combo
Love watching how smooth you are in running equipment. No wasted motion. I'm trying to figure out what pattern you use..SAE (Deere) or ISO
I think he uses iso
Definitely ISO
I glad to see Timmy today. I thought you burnt him in that brush pile yesterday.
Project looks nice! When I wanted the fire on the other end, I'd occasionally pick up the fire (a small amount) and set it on the other end. ....13
Another great video! Are you able to take draws or partial payments on some of these jobs when you have to leave for a few weeks? Love the drone footage! Thanks for sharing
Just bill every 30 days for what we work
Thanks for the reply. I figured you had to do something like, still have bills lol
Chris have you checked with weathertech to see if they make a floormat for the Volvo’s... They are great..
You need to get the xm42 flame thrower. It will prob make it easier to get the fire going. And you can have fun at the same time.
You need to put a shoe scraper on the machine right below the door so you can get rid of that pesky mud! Love the aerials. That's going to be more of a lake than a pond. Nice. Stock it bass and bob's ur uncle. Thanks for the video.

You are getting pretty good with the drone, Maverick !
looked back at some old vids, its nice to see how your property has come around.. do ya still have your pigs
Little stressed this morning are we...give her hell, Chris. Hiawatha would be proud of you. Pssst....fire needs air.
So what are going to put on this 4 acres of cleared land? a golf course?
Great drone shots, thanks
love the head cam keep up the great work chris
Finally a video with muddy boots in your cab! You are human! Thanks for making the rest of us feel normal again. 😂
I'm surprised you don't have removable mats, or a boot-box in the machine.
Do you have to pull permits or alert the authorities before burning?
sometimes but not this time
Sometimes, but not this time.
Chris, is it possible to burn the windrows you make rather than them big piles? Seems like the little bit of dirt in the rows would be less problem burning thru than having to move the brush 2 or 3 times. No?
Try setting a leaf blower on high at the base of the brush pile... flame on.
Hey Chris did you ever do anything about the roof window? Vinyl wrap or whatnot? Its out of view on the camera cant tell if ya had time to do it or not.
One question do u need a permit to burn down brush like this????
Yall should use some paint thinner and dry pinestraw it will burn both hot and quick.
Try a waxed cardboard box.
Love the Drone shots...

Getting to use big equipment to start big fires wish I could do that just once. My bucket list.
Chris, why don't ya use a tub grinder and sell the chips as fuel to a factory?
No market for it
Where is Chris working to-day? oh there he is where over where the pawl of smoke is climbing into the air, have a good one Chris.
Do you have to notify the fire department every time you set the fires
Why do you only start one fire and not two?
Have you ever tried road flares to start the piles?
Just wondering does the fire department know you are burning so they don't respond when people call and they will ?
I believe this not their first brush burn; so just maybe they've notified the odd authority here and there.
There was a couple times I lite real smallbrush piles on fire at home probably in 15 or so minutes I had fire dept. show up when I had a real fire my four wheeler caught garage on fire it took them close to a hour to arrive .
anyways Chris good video

Is that road really not going to be under water? It sure looks like it from the drone video
I would love your job as im in uk and it stinks at the moment regarding paying for your dozer and 360 tickets it cost a fortune over here keep digging love watching danny
It's a good thing Karen lives some where else
Has osha ever showed up on a job of yours and where is your high visibility vest
Awesome video.
Do you call the FD when you plan to do burns?
I don't know where your at but seems to be muddy there a lot share some of that rain your getting I been loading dust in dump trucks for almost three weeks now
Road flare for fire & wire brush for cleaning boots.
That excavator is a lot nicer to work those burn piles than the dozers that we used in the 70s. You just can't blow the fire with the excavator like the dozer will.
You could probably filter that diesel to get all the water out. That will keep it from going woomp like it did the last time.
What kind of drone are you using, it seems like good quality and i like the overview of the job sites 👍
We used to use a 4 point burn system on each pile then it burns to the inside.
Been watching for awhile, Where are you located at?
What state?
North Carolina
In North Carolina.
Think I prefer Jpaydirt's method of starting a burn pile off, just squirt the diesel all over the pile, straight from the fuel truck, lol!
hey there bud just like to say thanx you inspired me to get my ticket so i just piad £2500 for my above ten tone with lifting operations ticket love you videos an do u have any tipsto help me threw lol keep digging man .
New to the channel. What kind of work do you do?
When you burn do you have to call the Fire department to let the know that you are doing that ?
Chris, are you going to Bunyan??
Yes
Cool, hope to see you there!
tore down and house and tried to remove a tree up by the house today. Cat 320 and a Cat 336 couldn't pull this tree in bedrock out of the ground, Ever run across something like that? We've had 40 foot burn piles since April, burn bans in effect, send us some of your rain.
You ain't working if you aren't dirty!
You should mount a boot cleaner outside the cab an a platform to sit em on! Lol
How bad is your insurance for burning?
Firebug 🔥
This was on 75% speed and I was thinking, man he's stoned.
you wanta watch 20 minutes of smoke? Hell ya!
Those machines need a water tank and pump so you can hose them mud feet down before you get in your cab. Fill it with creek or pond water or just piss in it through out the day after drinking those fountain sodas that are usually in the cup holder.
m60hein I did this modification to my excavator used a 24 inch pipe capped the ends and put a fitting and hose it gravity feeds to was boots works great
Hey Chris, how come you guys don’t own a track loader to help clearing @letsdig18
You need a torch attachment for your excavator.
A leaf blower would give your fire some air and a lot less smoke
I wish I could work with my dad more doing this kind of stuff. School is boring as hell.
You need to invest in a chipper for environmental concerns. Big pollution issue and safety issues.
Go to the Farm Store and get you a 30 gallon 12 volt sprayer, fill it with offroad and used oil, spray and light upwind sides to compensate for wind change, problem solved and save moving the piles :)
Mmmm... That camera would probably make a really good door stop. 😄
Looks great let's dig
kind of like a dirt bike track with a bunch of two stroke running around.
Tree huggers are having a heart attack!!!! Bahahaha
Rig a back pack blower in the bucket with the throttle wide open. Get that fire hot right fr the beginning.
Lake going there?Looks like a great spot!!
Or a big pond!
I'm sure the neighbors enjoyed these couple days..
Let's dig, have you ever used a gas powered blower to get the tree piles going?
I do that all the time to get a real hot spot going. Plus I put diesel in a weed sprayer and spray spots not burning.
I have but i rather stay in the cab LOL
@@letsdig18 you do have an assistant when you're not trying to blow him up...
Brilliant idea!
Time to invest in a flame thrower!
Watch out the fire department will send the f350 brush truck 😂😂
Tim can be a shoes shiner too.
I wish I could burn those piles.
Don't need notifications from you tube, just use the smoke signals of a new video. Lol
I guess when you pay that much for a piece of equipment, your supposed to treat it like a Cadillac.
They say that smoke follows beauty. Why is it all going straight up?
I really think you like fire !
Nice!!!
Fix up a leaf blower on the end of the arm of the excavator.
Hahahaha 😀😀
Did you get a burn permit??????? Loll
Don't need to if you paint the smoke blue and the sparks green. Don't try using a roller to paint smoke though. ;-)
At least the smoke dries it out fairly fast.

Dave Kauffman Jr to complicated easier to set it and stack it up
Be careful with those smoke signals you'll cook up another hurricane...
