  • Range Rover L322 TDV8: Owners Review & Expensive Surprises
After owning this 2009 V8 Range Rover Vogue for a while now, I am "getting it". These are beautiful cars with comfort, power, practicality, looks, off-road capability and immense road presence. I can see why a lot of people say the L322 is the best Range Rover. If there is anything I didn't cover in the video please let me know in a comment!

Nice vid. I have the L322 3.0 TD6 (from 2002) and I love it. The BMW engine doesn't quite have the same burst of power as the 3.6 or 4.4 TDV8 but it is perfectly competent at normal driving speeds and (according to the mechanic at the local dealership) it's the most durable engine found in a Range Rover. All I can say is that mine is coming up to 200k miles and purrs as smoothly as when I bought it 12 years ago. Transmission is another matter, the GM gearbox is known to have issues after 50k and mine was replaced a few years ago. Also new air suspension (front,) turbo, injector, fuel pump, wiper motor, handbrake assembly, discs all round, and some other bits and bobs. "Non-routine maintenance" as I like to call it has averaged out at roughly £2000 a year over the 12 years of my ownership. I've maintained this vehicle on the prevention-better-than-cure priciple and it gets a full anti rust treatment every year in autumn, followed by professional salt removal each Spring. Fuel consumption: I measured it carefully over a 1200 mile run across Europe last year, and it was just about spot on 30mpg average over the whole trip. Yes, I also "get" the L322. There's a clip of mine on my channel, about to commence a 3-day winter trek across snowy Europe. With winter tyres it's unstoppable (except when you want it to, obviously 😄.)

Very nice! I've got a 1995 P38 Range Rover with the 4.6 V8 and I've just completely rebuilt the engine. They're magical vehicles, that 10 letter constellation across the bonnet really means something ❤️

I had the same thing with the air suspension in my TDV8, it was the little air filter on the front of the compressor, it was just full of dust and needed a clean. Air compressor is in the boot in the spare wheel well. Good luck with it. Sure it will all be good. There have been Range Rover's in my family longer than I have and consistently so and we have never had a lemon.

The tailgate was designed for when you're at the horse races. You stand on the lower tailgate, with the top tailgate shut and you can watch the horses from high up.
As for error messages, if the battery is low all sorts of weird and wonderful things start happening, suspension errors, radio might work then not work etc. I invested in a cheap £10 bluetooth battery monitor which means I can monitor what's going on with the car from my phone and stick it on the battery charger when it starts dropping low. Keep up with it, they are addictive.

I have a similar model, and I love it but I don’t drive it every day so the fuel isn’t an issue for me.
You have a much better version than mine (air cooled seats 😢) but I won’t get rid of it until I have to. Now retired so it’s an expense I could do without.
The biggest issue is the price of servicing and repairs. You need to be prepared to pay out as mush as the cars value again if there are any issues.
So far £1500 spend on servicing and a replacement suspension part.

The real issues came with the GM boxes fitted to earlier L322 models, a recon is usually required between 90 - 120k miles..its not 'if 'but 'when'. The zf's are fantastic boxes if maintained correctly.

Would love a Range Rover as has such a bad reputation for running costs and breaking down. Would fit in well with my BMW and Porsche, oh and my glorious(not really) 2003 Holden Barina(Corsa to those in the UK) All of mine are reliable once jobs done and I guess the Range Rover no different. For me a car has to have a character and the Range Rover ticks that box.

I’ve not long bought one for £500 yes £500 and it’s a full fat Range Rover in Epsom green with cream leathers.
Has front suspension failure but I’m converting it all to springs yes I’ll lose abit of comfort but won’t have no more unexpected suspension issues.
owner before last had it from 2009-2020 and spend around 6k in that time replacing things like the gearbox and injectors by the looks of the paperwork I’ve got with it.
Just in the process of having the gearbox and engine serviced and she’s good to go, not bad for £500 I say

I don't get how you say its dear on fuel... with your gear onboard you'd be about 3 ton.... is all wheel drive and box shaped, should be doing 35mpg on the freeway which when you break it down is better than just about anything else on the road.... you cant compare it to a hatchback that weighs 1300kilos
