I just discovered this today and not far from my 65th birthday and yes it was my best present also. I never thought I would see a movie of the Kalama's Quartet.
That's a voice developed before electric amplification existed, and singers needed to project strongly enough to be heard throughout an entire theater - or even in a tent, or outdoors.
