Thank you for sharing the memories blanket story, I'm so happy you're in a better position now and that you're happy! I'm a progressive and I deeply respect home makers, men or women who decide to care for their homes, who work every day all day and who create and pass on meaningful traditions !
Hi Anna! I love both your blankets! I am currently working on a Granny square afghan or throw for my couch. I just recently started crocheting. Your comments about housewives or homemakers are so true. I am a homemaker, a stay-at-home wife and mother. I absolutely love to be a wife and a mother. So blessed to have the privilege to care for my family. 😊
Hi Anna, I agree with you so much, that homemaking is so very important and is becoming a lost art. I am a firm believer that a wife and mother needs to be at home. She is the “glue” to the home and if she will, can create a beautiful, peaceful environment for her husband/family. Great job on your jelly and syrup!!!!
Nice talk about the memories blanket. I’ve never thought in that way about it. I guess your personal experience gave a different perspective to the name of the product. I love it! Thank you.
Both of my daughters are home markers and I think it’s the most rewarding profession. It takes a lot of hard work to manage a home. Your blankets are beautiful.
Love this episode! Thank you for sharing these tips and showing your beautiful work. Homemaker is used in California even on demographic surveys - at least in the community college system. I agree, it’s much nicer than housewife.
Dear Anna, I love your blankets and all your videos. I totally agree with you in your view of a home maker. I hope you have a lovely weekend. Kind regards from Australia 😍
Loved everything about this podcast ❤ I am a blanket maker (sometimes knit sometimes crochet). I make one or two every year (big ones like yours). My goal is usually something like “10 rows a week”. It doesn’t seem like much..some days I do none, most days I do only two. But in 6 months you have a beautiful big cozy blanket 😀 Also loved the positive chat about homemaking. After +20 year career working in an office, I and my husband moved to another city and I officially became a full-time homemaker. Honestly it was very challenging for me, but 5 years later, I am very grateful for this opportunity to devote time to our home as well as our grandchildren. Truly blessed to do what I do. I’m realizing that there’s a season for everything. While my kids were growing up, me working full-time outside of the home was a necessity to support the family. Now I support them by taking care of the grandkids while their parents work (as my Mom did for us). Homemaking looks different for everyone and I’m glad there’s a lot more positivity about it now (though still needs work). Thank you for sharing your experiences 😀
Being a homemaker is such a joy and a blessing. A happy contentment. I love making a comfortable and loving home. What beautiful finishes! I'm sure you will have a glow of satisfactions every time you snuggle beneath them. Have a wonderful weekend!
Hello Anna. It's good to appreciate our blessings. I understand when you use the term 'only' a housewife. I too choose to stay at home. My children are all grown up, my husband is retired. He appreciates and reminds me that what I do here at home is valuable as sometimes I feel guilty about not 'earning' money like other women my age. So, I keep busy crafting, cooking, growing our food, helping harvesting our fuel, etc. I enjoy the freedom and the time I have to meditate and pray while carrying out what many would see as mundane tasks. My life has not always been a bed of roses but God has brought me to this paradise I live in. We are very blessed. Your blankets are beautiful and your video has inspired me to find my long lost cosy memory blanket amongst my WIPs and start working on it again. Thank you! 💚
Your video (this video!) inspired me to finish my long term granny stripe blanket😊 I have been working on and off of this blanket since January of 2021. I just picked it up again today, decided it was long enough, worked on it while watching this episode, and now it’s done! Thank you for the inspiration.
Hi Anna, it was so fun to hear you mention my comment from the last episode! Thank you!! Also, I am SO impressed by all your jellies and syrups. I would love to learn how to make more of those. We have a pear tree in our yard (they are a very HARD variety of pear) and every fall I fill the freezer with pear muffins that the kids will eat until they run out. I have made pear butter before, but it was a bit of a disaster. I love your beautiful blankets. As always, thank your for the inspiration in both life and knitting! God bless you ♥
Hmmmm pear muffins sound delicious! I would love to have the recipe ❤️ I am looking forward to try a steam juicer for my next jelly and juice projects. 🤗
Your blankets are beautiful!! We are going through a heatwave but it not the heat that effects me its the humidity I have been a victim can't knit, crochet just want to sit and do nothing.
Your blankets are all so beautiful! I’m working on my daily dedication 2023 #annasknitclub project, using one white worsted weight yarn held together with one fingering weight yarn made of scraps leftover from my many projects. I like to look at the yarns and remember what I’ve made with them. I wish I had made it in pieces, but I don’t like sewing blocks together. I’m sooo lazy, Anna! I was a “Hausfrau” for 16 years and it was the best “job” I ever had. I loved my children and loved the home I cared for. I cleaned and cooked and did the laundry and taught my three children how to read. I paid the bills, and mowed the lawn, and wrote many cards to family and friends. I taught my kids to bake cookies and to do basic chores in the home. I loved it! I don’t know what the mainstream people in the US think of it. And I don’t care. I had a career as an accountant when my kids were older. Blah! Now, I stay home and care for my husband, our home, cook and bake and clean and pay bills. I now care for grandchildren occasionally and help my kids.
Your finished blankets are beautiful! I so agree with you in saying that homemakers are the keepers of our culture. I am in the USA and I prefer the term homemaker because that is what I am doing…making and keeping my home. I don’t prefer housewife because it infers that I am married to my home. Home making is a lost art and I’m so happy when I see others who choose to embrace it.
Hello Anna! That blanket is a tapestry of your life! What a special heirloom. I'm glad that you look at the piece as a whole, realizing that our sorrows are an integral part of who we are, as well as joys. Here in the US, it feels like the term "housewife " is a bit derogatory. Homemaker is a much happier word. Lately, "homesteader" has become very popular. It makes me laugh that all the things I always did routinely are now "in vogue" (sewing, canning, gardening, etc) It was part of what I considered my vocation as homemaker❤ Blessings to you!!
My mom always did these things too. Canning for example was simply cheaper than buying. I how I hated it when we received cucumbers from someone’s garden who had too many 😂 Now I am grateful how much I learned at home. ❤️
I miss elderberry. Here in Canada they don't exist. Not edible kind. Back in croatia my mom used to make a special kind of batter. Like a thicker pancake batter ( not crepe like which is a bit more runny) and dipped the flowers in, holding it by its small stem and then frying on both sides. It was so yummy. We also made syrup to mix with water or with plain sparkling water.
Such happy finished objects! Have you tried eating ice cream until you get an ice cream headache to relieve/stop migraines? This does help as a friend who was hospitalized for prolonged migraines was taught by a neurologist! So much more pleasant than pills which have bad reactions sometimes. Home maker is a term so much more creative than housewife. Happy St. John’s Day/ midsummer.
I raised 4 children in the 70's and 89's when women were expected to work. Someone would ask me what I did, where did I work. I proudly said I am raising the future citizens of my country. I am teaching them to be respectful and kind. But, also to be firm in their beliefs and stand up for what is right. I never seemed to get a response back 🤗
If I could go back in time, I would be a homemaker. It is one thing to trade time with one's children for a career (if you are a nurse, a teacher, a doctor, etc., and those pursuits bring you joy); it is another altogether to trade one's God-given vocation for a mere job, and that is what I did. I feel some women in my position double down and defend their choices, even choices that have made them unhappy. But I think it's important when we become conscious of our mistakes to be open and honest about them. I find it so ironic that "feminists" always seem to celebrate women for doing things men have already done, in many cases better, because men are able to throw themselves into their work (whether they have careers or jobs) in a way that doesn't tear at their heartstrings. I think this is because work (to provide for their families) is their natural vocation. I don't see why women aren't celebrated more for doing the miraculous thing that ONLY women can do, which is to be mothers (with all that entails). Anyway, in the US people don't say "only"; they say "just." But I have begun to call out this attitude as anti-feminist. Or at least anti-woman. It comes firstly out of an inability to construe "difference" (the difference between the sexes for example) other than hierarchically. It's like, if we even acknowledge the sexes are different, divinely designed for different ends, this means ipso facto one is "better" or "higher" than the other. The result is a value system that places traditional male pursuits (success in one's career, etc.) over and above traditional female pursuits (all those things that go into homemaking). We don't need to buy into this misguided thinking - so much so that we feel ourselves to be inferior if we don't do "male" things. I'm delighted to see so many younger women such as yourself pushing back. Congratulations on finishing your beautiful blankets.

Thank you very much Gabriela ❤️
1st video I've ran across of yours and you said, "make and pray," so I immediately subscribed and liked.
Oh wonderful ❤️ You find more information about Make and Pray on my website www.AnnaKnitter.com

Never thought of that, but you are right. It’s sounds like being married to the house 😂 Unfortunately we can’t translate homemaker to german.

@@annaknitter Exactly!! I know the feeling😆 It was pears for me, always at an inconvenient time, but so worth it later!
You are blessed
Try adding vinegar in the water, it helps set colour so it doesn’t bleed
I love the beginning square. It shows the upset you were in at the time
