SD Cooper and Aspra Rubi- Assessing Rural Guatemalan Populations Perceptions of Osteopathic Medicine

Student Doctor Monica Aspra Rubi is a third-year medical student at KCU from Toronto, Canada. She attended the University of Ontario Institute of Technology where she graduated as a Medical Laboratory Scientist. Prior to starting at KCU, she worked as a Laboratory Scientist in microbiology, biochemistry, hematology, histology and transfusion medicine. She then went on to become a supervisor for the COVID-19 molecular laboratory. Throughout her time at KCU she has enjoyed working in diversity inclusion projects and research. She was the President for the Multicultural Student Organization, Secretary for Student National Medical Association, Community Outreach Coordinator for the Research club, CHAMPS mentor, Anatomy Academy leader, student ambassador, and Jumpstart Co-president. She is looking forward to her OMM fellowship and becoming a family medicine physician. She enjoys travelling, weightlifting, and hanging out with her friends and family.
Student Doctor Grace Cooper is a third-year medical student at KCU from Atlanta, GA. She attended the University of North Georgia for her Bachelor's of Biology, and attended PCOM-GA for her master's certificate in biomedical sciences. Prior to starting at KCU, SD Cooper worked for Boehringer-Ingelheim a pharmaceutical company, for 2 years in quality control. During her undergraduate education, she did a microbiology research project where they were able to present through her institution's research conference and publish her work. SD Cooper was the Vice President and Latin chair for the Multicultural Student Organization, a student ambassador, and the OB/GYN chair for the Primary Care Club. In her third year in med school, she has become interested in pursuing a pediatric residency with the hopes of returning back to the Southeast. She currently volunteers at the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Mercy Hospital in her spare time. She also enjoys traveling, going on hikes with her dog, and spending time with family and friends.
