I love watching the maintenance and planting of gardens. That is how you learn the most tips. You see how other gardeners think and it makes you consider your own garden differently. I like your idea of zinnias in pots so you can move them to the bare areas when needed. I usually plant near my roses so when roses are not in bloom it looks like they are blooming from a distance.
Thank you for sharing your tip using zinnias with roses. Good idea! You’ve made a good point about learning from watching other gardeners with maintenance and such. I will bare that in mind for future videos. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Much appreciated!🥰
Hi Amy! Love all your flowers and clean up ideas. I do have forget me nots that are about 12" tall now. the shorter variety is long gone. I forget which is which. It seems the nurserys areound me have flowering plants but they seem tired and on the way out .... maybe I can rescue some. My garden could use more color now too.... great share!
Does your taller (12”) forget-me-not come back for you every year? I’m hoping mine will as it is labeled as “perennial” on the package. You’re absolutely right about plants looking quite wilted and tired at this time of the year at some nurseries. At the big box stores they started looking bad even at the beginning of June! There’s 3 local garden nurseries close to me that does an amazing job maintaining their stocks. They are definitely my ‘go to’ places to shop. Thank you for watching!❤️ Happy gardening!
Thank you!❤️ I’ve always liked roses but in the last few years they have quickly become my absolutely favourite in my garden. I wish I had more space to plant more!😊
I just stumbled upon this video and will be subscribing to your channel! I love the variety in your garden, and I REALLY love that a lot of them seem to be in pots. I have a full sized garden as well as a million containers, and I love the flexibility of being able to swap them out and move them around as needed. Plus, despite the extra work in terms of watering, I like being able to adjust the care of a plant depending on its specific needs. Water loving plants next to drought tolerant ones, for example.
@@ContainerGardeningWithAmy Only a few years, but every year I keep adding more like a true addict! It's definitely something to budget a little extra for, especially because plants outgrow their pots, and you have to change/add soil every now and then. But I find it so fulfilling. I'm even trying a few young trees/shrubs in pots this year, and I hope regular pruning can help keep their size down.
@@katrinaelle7774 I love your remark, “…like a true addict”. So true!🤣 But also true is how fulfilling it is to grow a wonderful garden full of beautiful flowers, and to watch pollinators come to visit. I support your addiction 100%! Happy gardening!🥰
I love how your garden is abundant with colours!😍 Removing the tall yarrows and salvia and replacing with the shorter nepata and giallarda spintop flowers is a brilliant change! Sometimes, the editor in me feels like recommending a 15% overall cutback ...yet I so admire how every garden is true to its gardener/creator's style and personality.💐🎨👩🎨 A couple of plants in my garden were inspired by your content - Thanks!
You’re absolutely right! Every garden definitely has its owner’s style and taste infused into it, which gives it its own character. I’m so glad to hear you’ve found my content useful🥰
I also consider myself a beginner gardener, learning from trial and errors:) Thank you for the feedback. Really appreciate it! As for your question regarding which pots I use…any pots I have on hand! I usually save a lot of the large nursery pots from my purchases. I use a lot of those. Aside from these I do like to use terracotta or ceramic pots. These pots are for plants that are more visible in my display. I hope this helps! Thank you for watching!❤️
Beautiful looking garden and great selection of new plants, they are the bees knees. We have a small front garden with four flowerbeds, fifty two pots of perennials and six pots of annuals on the two front windowsills. My wife has no interest in gardening and tells me it looks like a mini garden centre.
@@ContainerGardeningWithAmy Hi Amy, we have the following flowers in containers Agapanthus, Alstromerias, Alpine flowers, Sempervivums, Hebes, Fuchsias, lilies, Daylilies, Hostas, African daisies, Ajuga, Calla lilies, Parahebes, Salvias, Asters, Penstemons and Guem. In the flowerbeds we have Astilbes, Astrantias, Campanula, Brook thistles, Peonies, Hostas, Trollius chinensis, Orvala, Acanthus bears breechs, Centaureas, Brunneras, Heucheras, Kniphofias, Echinaceas, Coreopsis, Salvia nemorosa carradonna, Rudbeckas, Crocosmias, Shasta daisies, Cosmos, Geums, Knapweed and Geranium rozannes. Hopefully this will give you an idea of my garden.
Yarrows have been one of my favourites in the garden for years now. I’ve grown them in pots and in ground. They have not come back well for me for the years. It’s time to say good-bye:(
Gorgeous garden, Amy! I was going to ask how you keep all of the containers watered but when reading all the comments I saw that you replied to someone that you hand water all of the containers. How do you manage to access all of them to water so the foliage doesn't get wet or is that not so important? I would love to start doing more container gardening and knowing how you manage to care for so many container plants would be very helpful!
For my containers in the middle section, it is not too difficult to water them without having to water overhead, avoiding for the most part, getting the the leaves wet. I am able to access the pots from both sides, making it quite easy to accomplish this. Also, I do try to water early in the morning on sunny days. This will allow amble time for the leaves to dry if they do happen to get wet. Lastly, I've purchased a watering wand that is fairly long, this allows me to reach quite far, and on top of this I have long arms...lol! I hope this helps! Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment🥰
@@ContainerGardeningWithAmy Thank you for replying so quickly Amy! You shared very helpful information for me. I'm so glad I discovered your channel and look forward to watching every video you film.
You mentioned that it's going to be going down to 27, is that Celsius? I don't know where you're located but you're in zone 6A, and I'm in zone 6B in Holland Michigan. Your garden looks a lot like mine. I can truly identify with your love of just putting everything together which I call chaos gardening. I'm having a garden tour this week and the theme is chaos in the garden. I love what you've done there!
Yes, it’s in Celsius. I’m in Ontario/Canada. My husband calls my garden a “beautiful wild mess”…lol! I can’t imagine gardening any other way:) Good luck with your upcoming garden tour!
The zones in Canada and USA are not equivalent. Amy's 6b would be 5b using USDA zones. I don't know where in Ontario Amy is in but there is a wide range of zones. I'm near Niagara Fall, Ontario and am in Canadian zone 7a. (6a USDA).
Hi there, I normally try my best not to spray anything in my garden as I have quite a bit of pollinators that come to visit. So far I’ve just been removing any diseased or damaged leaves. This goes with black spots and leave rust. Hope this helps!
Do you mean that they will produce additional flowering spikes if curled as you’ve mentioned? Interesting! I might try that for the ones planted in my pots. Thank you for sharing!🥰
What’s the name of the climbing rose over the pergola. I would be interested in a video showing m how you maintain so many plants in the container . Do you hand warmer and bring all perennials inside ?
I’ve lost the tag for this pink climbing rose since I bought it, but based on my research I think it might be Jasmina. I do hand water all of the plants/flowers in pots. Except for my potted roses which were stored in my unheated garage, the rest were stored under my gazebo this past winter. Most survived, I’d say 75%-80% percent success rate.
Thanks for the suggestion. Appreciate the feedback. I used to show the names of all the plants in my videos but this process take way too long as my collection has grown and I just don’t have the time to spend on editing in such a way. Editing already takes me forever as is, if I add names, I’d never get it done…lol! If you’re interested in a certain plant/plants, send me a quick message and I’d be happy to respond back. Thank you for your understanding!
Never thought of that being a possibility, but I checked the package AND this morning the rest of the blooms on the same plant also changed colours. I should have known but it happened so suddenly that it took me off guard:)
