Great video as always. Is the axle stand on the rear subframe lugs that fix to the spring pan? If so could placing the stand here, so the pan can move, allow spring replacement?
Very nice work and thank very much for the video. It the video it was mentioned the costumer supplied the new body panels. Any idea of where these can be bought?
Hi Neil, not sure if you mentioned it and I just missed it, but what thickness and composition plate did you use as patches? Also, great channel, coudl you perhaps do a vid on VAS 97 type alarms as fitted to 156s, I have a SW with a wonky alarm Cheers keep up the great work
Hey there, quick question. What kinda metal and what thickness did you use for patches? I'm thinking of starting to fix all side rusts on my 147 as a project, no idea where to start. Little help would be appreciated.
Ghost Dog - under a grand to repair all the rust properly and keep this Bussa on the road? Some main dealers would charge that for a service on a modern car. Because of low cost of these cars in the UK people would let something like this get worse before scrapping it. It the car was worth €10k+ like it is in a lot of Europe, most people wouldn’t blink at having this done. Petrol heads in the UK have the responsibility to keep cars like this on the road. £880 is nothing.
Good job Neil. It's amazing that you're a mechanic and also a body shop specialist by the looks of it! Those two things are very very separated in my country, you're either a mechanic or a body shop specialist. Is it more common to be able to do both in the UK due to the bound-to-rust weather, or it's just you?
If that were my car I would have told you to simply cut out the section rather than mess about sectioning it in pieces. For one it would be cheaper and more straight forward.
nice work but where did ge fond the repair panels? me and My father did it the Hard way on my gtv rejsa.nu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=114031&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=21
Excellent work and video, cheers!
Great to see some proper hands-on work. Shows the amount of work that goes into these kind of things! Good job.
yeah a lot more work than engine removal etc.
Alfa tan and red leather interiors are so nice to look at.
my dad and i are currently looking at buying a gtv, very useful videos. thanks for them :)
Yes, sill covers are great at hiding all manner of problems. Another excellent video 😀!
thanks.
Props to the owner for getting the work done. The price for all this work is very reasonable.
I have to get my 166 done for same issues.very nice work
You are the master of 916s
Yikes! I need to get the sill covers off my Spider and GTV for a look at those hidden areas this Winter! 😳
def worth a look.
I was thinking about buying a GTV ... thanks for saving me! I'll just stick to simple and affordable cars.
this is a rare one with this much rust. gtvs are one of the best alfas to own as a classic car.
‘Weld’ done Neil.
Use your PPE more (gauntlets and mask) trust me, I know. 😉
greenberlina yeah I am guilty of it but trying to be a good boy.
Just done repairing the rust in my 33.....it was much more extensive than this. Now it's being resprayed.
its nice when you get to the point its painted. normally means all the hard work is over.
...unless it’s my 156 and I just find more rust afterwards! 🙂
You make look so easy, great, but I will be careful trying it home.
thanks. this one is far from easy though.
Such a good video, this is Fiat Tipo platform...i am doing restoration on one so this is really helpfull

Easy2take think it’s 1.8mm
Brilliant video
Are there accesses from above or underneath to preserve the sills in time with wax?
If you take the side skirts off and rear arch liner off.
Great video and Channel! What type of work light do you have there?
Hansy1990 thank you. I don’t have a clue of the brand but it’s pretty good.
Rather interesting... I always wondered what gets done when a bit of the car needs welding. Curious, if not done would it be an MOT failure?
Yeah lots of rust to fail this one.
22 hours? @ £40 an hour? Owner must love the motor.

i just love everything about cars. most of my bodywork skills are self taught pretty much.
Every Alfa have rust problem. My is disaster
Thanks for equipping safety glasses. Would be a lot harder to make videos if you lose your eyesight.
yep got to be safe.

It would of cost lots more to replace the whole panel
What terrible build qub
The intro is absolutly awful
cant please everyone.
Looks good to me mate - ignore the grumps! 🙂
