I love how Lemmy was absolutely sick of playing "Ace of Spades" but always played it and always gave it his all because that's what the audience wants.
He was never sick of that song, who said that? In fact it was always a closer because of it’s ease for him to play. I had the honor of meeting him at The Rainbow Room way back when. Autographed an ‘Ace of Spades’ poker card for me.
Maybe he was, but i dont think so cause he played what he wanted to play, even if it weren't the fav songs of most motorhead fans, and like even in this song like he did allot later in life/career, alltering the text. But yeah funny thing even for a die hard motorhead fan like me, ace of spades was not by far my fav song from them
Neil Fallon from Clutch told a story from a tour with Motörhead. Lemmy asked him why they weren’t playing Regulator and Neil told him they were sick of playing it. Lemmy told him it doesn’t matter how tired of it you are, there are fans that want to hear it because it’s many of their’s favorite song.
Lemmy was never sick of playing Ace Of Spades but Brian Robertson was (as well as other classics) which made Lemmy remind him "you play them, those songs pay the wages".
I think every band is somewhat sick of playing their biggest hits after a while. Take a chef for example once you went michelin star levels, you're not too excited about peeling potatoes anymore. They probably had songs closer to their heart, something they were especially proud of but had to play the same song for decades over and over again. But it's those well known songs that made them famous in the first place, so an artist is SOL there
That’s coz with 2 guitarists, you half to half the sound, then lower the bass to compensate for the low end from each guitar, then raise the drums volume so they can be heard at an even level to everything else. 1 guitar + 1 bass + 1 drums + 1 singer is the best design for a band, but doesn’t always work for specific genres. Keep in mind how great slipknot are with the seemingly ‘bad’ setup, but then how great bands like nirvana are, with the minimalistic design. Also, Motörhead had their amps turned to 11, which also helps.
I wondered the same thing, then I started playing guitar I realised what Lemmy was doing. He played the bass the same as a rhythm guitar, and with a lot of distortion. Most of the rhythm stuff I thought Eddie was doing, was Lemmy.
I was thinking exactly the same thing! Very, very few bands can pull that off when they desperately need a rhythm guitar but are too cheap to add one on tour. They add a rhythm track on their recordings, but never add a rhythm guitar player in concert. So the whole sound seems shallow, especially when the inevitable guitar solo comes up... Motley Crue comes to mind immediately; they just turn up the amps and hope the wall of sound drowns the lack of a rhythm guitar line: you can barely hear Nikki Sixx's bass....Or Ozzy, who just has his guitarists go to that God awful pinched harmonic sound to add an extra note of noise where the rhythm line should be....But Lemmy...man he could play that bass! Reminds me of the late, great Felix Pappalardi, the original bass player for Mountain. Listen to Missisippi Queen live....its Pappalardi's fuzz bass that drives the whole sound-you'd never know they didn't have a rhythm guitar player!
@@djm4457 Well said. There’s nothing worse than when the bottom falls out of three-piece band’s rhythm section during a solo because the bassist’s tone isn’t meaty enough to fill in the sound.

Saw at an open air middle of fucking nowhere in Spain in summer. The stage acted as a receiver and a local radio station started coming through the speakers. Lemmy just turned the sound up. It was nasty.

An apt description on Phil Campbells guitar strap. I've been involved in the music business for quite a few years and I've hardly heard anyone who's had a good word to say about him.
Motorhead vastly lived up to their reputation. They have literally been one of the loudest metal bands I have ever heard in my life. It was an unforgettable experience!
I remember an interview when the reporter asked Lemmy, when do you think is the best time to stop playing, rocking, touring and Lemmy said, when I die, that's a good moment to stop.
I use to hang out with my Best Rocker Friend, Scotty at the Rainbow Bar and Grill on the Sunset Strip on many a night there. His Best Friend was Lemme. We would hold down the end of the Outside Patio Bar . Next to a Computer Game , that Lemme would play all night. Then, Lemme's Black Girlfriend would show up . We both would sneak to the Upstairs Bar and dance. Many times to " Ace of Spades". Lemme's song. and some Funky stuff. If you ever go to the Outside Patio Bar at the Rainbow Bar and Grill. It's called the Lemme Lounge. And there's a Lifesize statue of Lemme. And pictures , too. You can play the same Computer Game, that Lemme played , too. And if you go to the Upstairs Bar. The DJs will play a few of his songs .
I played in a hard rock band in London,We were popular enough that we got to play the London Marquee quite regularly,Often I’d see Lemme there,He’d play the Pinball machine in the foyer all night,He told me that he loved any kind of arcade games,Great guy and a Kick Ass Rocker till his last breath….RIP Lemme
A guy I know, his company does all the plumbing for the Rainbow room. He had the same story of Lemmy hanging out in the back playing hours of video poker. Apparently he had to get to the water heater which was behind the video poker machine. One time he asked Lemmy to move and everyone lost their mind like,”don’t talk to Lemmy.” But Lemmy was totally cool about it and they became friendly with each other. He and Lemmy ended up decent enough friends that he went to Lemmy’s place a few times. He said Lemmy had a dirt cheap apartment in the area and always bragged about how cheap it was. Apparently he was the absolute coolest guy.
@@TimBuktu666 , I have known Scotty since 1994. He always came to a club in Huntington Beach that had a Rock Night on Sundays with Large snakes. He ( Scotty ) claims he ride Lemme to this Club in Huntington Beach from West Hollywood. I bet that was wild. Anyway, Scotty was my " coolest " Rock n Roll Friend.
It was about this time you can really see Lemmys struggles with his lungs. I had the pleasure of seeing in concert six months before he died. No one knew he was dying but Lemmy and his doctor until the last few days. RIP Lemmy.
Not quite entirely true. In August 2015, I talked to Nazi Scott and he told me that Lemmy had some major health issues going on wasn't doing well. What Lemmy was told in the last days is that it was terminal and nothing left could be done. Nazi Scott knew him very personally. He basically was Lemmy's gofer when he was at home in West Hollywood. Scott's a legend in his own right. Dude had his snakes in the seventies show for Alice Cooper and we always snuck at least one or two boas into the Rainbow for shock value. The owner, Mario Maglieri, was rather tolerant of Scott's hobby as long as there was no complaints, and in the Rainbow, you rarely saw anyone complain. It was all part of the vibe.
The first gig for me ever was in the early 80s as a 14-years-old No Sleep ''til Hammersmith tour gig in Helsinki, Finland. The concert started with Ace Of Spades and it was like a riot started right away. People begin to try to get into a better stand and the security guys were pulling those out from their hair. Never heard anything as loud again. So it was quite a shock for 14 years old I never forget :). I started from the top and the loudest! R.I.P Motörhead
Television doesn’t deserve legendary performances like this one. Big media is what forced these guys to push so hard to make their own spotlight. Fallon sure as hell didn’t deserve to share a stage with men with balls as big as Motörhead.
@rasmusisaksson7838 ... there's only one drummer for me and that's Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor who died only a month before Lemmy , plus of course Fast Eddie died I believe 4 years earlier, but yes the Swede as you say was with them for over 20 years till Lemmy died really ...🙏
Excellent man... Shame it's not louder.... 😮 I have a VHS cassette clip with Motorhead playing Ace live, down the pub, on The Young Ones tv show... If you're British....
When i saw them out here in NZ around 1996 they had 2 guitarists. Worsel & Mike Campbell (I think) (Check out The Young Ones too) I talked with them after the gig and asked how they got to be in Motorhead. Mike told me he heard thru the grapevine Fast Eddie had quit n Lemmy was auditioning guitarists. He found out where & when he arrived he reckoned there 50 other guys ahead of him. In the end Lemmy couldn't decide between Worsel & Mike, so decided to take em both. One of the loudest gigs I've ever been to. Good times!

God Bless Lemmy & his band mates.
ROCK ON IN HEAVEN LEMMY. 🤘🏻
Saw Motorhead several times! My fav was '94 @ the Huntridge, downtown Vegas! Thanks Steve J...! 🤘🤘🤘
……Lemmy played that Bass like the whole future of humanity depended on it. Godspeed 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
An apt description on Phil Campbells guitar strap. I've been involved in the music business for quite a few years and I've hardly heard anyone who's had a good word to say about him.
Worked with them many times, truly great people.
Motorhead vastly lived up to their reputation. They have literally been one of the loudest metal bands I have ever heard in my life. It was an unforgettable experience!
Blues mixed with metal mixed with punk mixed with hawkwind. Epic
What was the game's name?
Lemmy, Legend and Jimi Hendrix Groupy and god knows what else. That’s a superb life well lived. RIP Ian Fraser Kilminster, AKA Lemmy.
The headbangers in the background though… 🤘🏼
Staged af
love how they put banger at the far back .... hidding by a curtain.. who is hide by the drum also hide by the amps ....
Одна из самых лучших банд в истории рок-музыки!Лэмми,покойся с миром!

Аминь, брат.
La più grande Heavy metal band di tutti i tempi!!! 👏👏👏👏👏
R.I.P Motörhead
the holy trinity of
Lemmy, Clarke, Taylor,
made the holy trinity of
Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades
Motorhead
The Young Ones!!
Thank God i was lucky enough to see them live at least 5 times .. Rip Lemmy we are missing you ...
The fact that Lemmy was in his mid 60’s during this performance is soooo badass 🤘
Television doesn’t deserve legendary performances like this one. Big media is what forced these guys to push so hard to make their own spotlight. Fallon sure as hell didn’t deserve to share a stage with men with balls as big as Motörhead.
But he’s the only one who put them on Late Night
Also on Conan O'Brian.
@@Grandizer8989 not true.
Ahhh jueveos grandes you like no?
Best Rock Band in the world, we miss you Lem, the Rock is sad since december 2015.
The way Lemme played that bass gets me every time, he was cool AF. RIP Moterhead, thanks for the music.
Recently became a huge fan of Motorhead. What a talent Lemmy was. R.I.P. Also, proud to have a Swede behind the drum set.
Philip John Taylor wasn't a Swede, he was born in Derbyshire England
@@glastonbury4304 I was thinking about Mikkey Dee between 1992 and 2015. Mikkey is now the drummer in Scorpions.
@rasmusisaksson7838 ...
there's only one drummer for me and that's Phil “Philthy Animal” Taylor who died only a month before Lemmy , plus of course Fast Eddie died I believe 4 years earlier, but yes the Swede as you say was with them for over 20 years till Lemmy died really ...🙏
Lemmy, you'll remain forever in my heart.. 💖
I still remember where I was driving on a rural KY highway when I heard Lemmy passed away. He will be missed.
Pure unadulterated greatness RIP Lemmy!!!
Excellent man... Shame it's not louder.... 😮 I have a VHS cassette clip with Motorhead playing Ace live, down the pub, on The Young Ones tv show... If you're British....
"I don't want to live forever... that's right baby... but apparently I am!" haha classic.
Sadly, he was mistaken
@@andyborehol thankfully he got what he wanted
When i saw them out here in NZ around 1996 they had 2 guitarists. Worsel & Mike Campbell (I think) (Check out The Young Ones too) I talked with them after the gig and asked how they got to be in Motorhead. Mike told me he heard thru the grapevine Fast Eddie had quit n Lemmy was auditioning guitarists. He found out where & when he arrived he reckoned there 50 other guys ahead of him. In the end Lemmy couldn't decide between Worsel & Mike, so decided to take em both. One of the loudest gigs I've ever been to. Good times!
When I'm late for work this goes in the cd player. Amazingly I manage to get there on time ☺️ ..What a fucking song.
Ian k. R.I.P
YOU'RE MOTORHEAD, REST IS NOTHING....
he's really the boss! He dictates the speed of the song, which is all over the place!
Bass usually does 🤘🏼
This is the best thing that ever happened to Fallon. And the only 3 mins that ever watch his degenerate show. R.I.P Lemmy.
The headbangers over Lemmy’s left shoulder
“Excuse me is Drake here?”
“Thank you”
I like that they had to do this in rehearsal also
Saw them at Liverpool Empire 1981...my ears had a constant hum in them for days afterwards
MOTORHEAD!! Built for speed..legends!! 🤘👏❤
Love Lemmy. Big up the insane drum performance in this 😂This song is my gym zenith track.
We are Motorhead and we are playing rock n' Roll !!! 🤘👏
Ive still got my Motorhead Ticket from 2011 tour 18th November 🤘
This is the only fallon I’ve watched in my life and I’m not even a metal head ,
Says a lot about this legendary band
That’s amazing. Seriously they are on another level.
I miss ya Lemmy. RIP sir.
I had the pleasure of seeing this done live, middle 80s in Detroit.. harpos.
The "welsh wanker" campbell is an awesome guitarist🤘
We are Motörhead and we play rock and roll!!!
David Letterman had Motorhead on his show and it was great. The whole show Dave kept talking about Motorhead and cracking jokes.
Saludos desde Medellín. Colombia..
Saludos desde Lima
3 masters of heavy metal.
No heavy and no metal here, just rock n' roll
