  • Came across this on the side of the road at Myponga SA, we saw the Redbelly chase the Brown across the road then catch it. This is a longer version of the other video with footage and photos of the Brown snake being eaten. It was an amazing thing to witness. I never would have expected that when I read the title. You could actually see the brown snake injecting it's venom because sometimes when he would bite, you could see indents in it's head, where the venom glads are located--they looked hollow, as though his constrictor muscles were pushing every last itty-bitty drop of venom he had, into his predator.....But even as powerful as he was, it did no good. A great video, and thanks for uploading!!!!!!

      Yes exactly really are not a problem to humans it’s the fear some humans have of snakes that is the problem we have always had Red Bellies around our farm they know us and we treat them with respect and we rarely ever see a brown . Our large population of pythons and them seem to never have any issues

    Just so it is clear because there seems to be a hell of a lot of confusion about the snakes in this video..
    I see a lot of people calling the Brown snake a Mamba, It's not, It is an Eastern brown snake (2nd most venomous snake)
    It is being eaten by a Red bellied black snake and this video is a great example of why the eastern brown snake is the 2nd most venomous snake on earth, This snake evolved alongside Cobras like the Red belly that eat it and as a result has some of the most potent venom on earth. This same thing is also true for the most venomous snake (Inland Taipan) and the 3rd most venomous snake (Tiger snake) which are both eaten by Red bellied black snakes and Mulga snakes.

    Some people here in the United States keep them for pets and breed them in captivity. They will readily eat mice. They are venomous but it usually isn't deadly to people. A friend of mine got bit by his. He had pain, swelling, headache, bleeding and upset stomach but was back to normal in just a few days. They do not lay eggs but bear live young. They can have a tendency to become overweight in captivity because owners feed them too much.

    The odd thing is that the brown snake is close to the worlds deadliest snake and the red bellied black is at the other end of the scale.
    Often, with a RBB, the hospital will often not even use an anti-venom on a snake bite victim as it's rarely fatal ... mainly is quite painful. Mind you, a RBB snake that's large, like this one would have quite a venomous load.
    It's odd that such a deadly snake lives in fear of the RB black snake.

    The Red Bellied Black snake will win every time. Black snakes which include the Mulga snake are immune from other snake's venom. The Eastern Brown is defeated and will be eaten eventually by the Black snake.

    The brown snake is not a black mamba. Black mambas live in Africa, this is Australia. It's called a common brown and it's more venomous than any mamba, and it's more venomous than the red belly snake that ate it. It's like #2 or #3 in the world

    Did that black snake die afterwards? He was clearly envenomated.

    • @alantaylor6691
      @alantaylor6691 5 років тому

      It actually might not have been envenomated as eastern browns are notoriously short fangs. The fangs might not have made it through the black's scales.
      In any event, it's very common for different snakes to be immune to other snake's venom. I'm probably assuming this is the case here. It is a common thing for larger snakes to predate upon smaller snakes.

  • @Mr-kn6uk

    • @yalon6168
      @yalon6168 4 роки тому +1

      Well the brown snake (if it actually is a brown snake) couldn't bite into the red bellied black so that venom would not have been used and the red bellied black snake have already sunk it's fangs into the brown snake.
