Eyewitnesses still fearing for their lives finally break their long-held silences to reveal what they really heard and saw that night: a group of gangsters and clear signs of arson.
The investigation takes another shocking twist: the police suppressed evidence of arson and intimidated and silenced witnesses. It stinks of corruption and conspiracy. Could this be one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in history? Because if the fatal Ghost Train Fire was arson, then all signs are pointing to a case of mass murder.

I was there that night as an 8 yr old out with my dad and his new wife. We were set to go on the ride but Dads wife didn’t make it back in time. So we let people thru before us whilst we waited for her. We would have gone up in flames. It was a traumatic night for me without even understanding how badly it could have turned out until nearly 25 years later. It’s disgusting that nobody (re witnesses)was taken seriously and they were dismissed and bullied into oblivion. It was traumatic for us but utterly life altering for those that lost children & the witnesses that were torn down . A sad day in NSW history.
Either a payoff or a cover up of someone's monster kid having lit the fire. 7 murders, 6 children. Shame.

There's a part 2 ghost train I just watched it. And Boy there's a cover up. And we're supposed to teach our kids to trust officers. It's scary

These friends and family of the victims need answers. The police owe em that much atleast.
Soon as you showed a pic of the south electric box, how any one can say electrical fire is twisted in the brain.
My thoughts keep returning to the boy who witnesses described as talking about lighting the fire and exactly whose son he was. Unless someone was being protected, what other reason would there be to squash such a detailed and important piece of information? The description alone would be enough to perhaps make an investigator know exactly who they were describing.
It's the Jenny, the mother of the 2 boys and her husband that makes me cry so much. The whole event for everyone was so tragic, I can't imagine what it was like
Horrific! Can you explain what the police gained from a potential coverup? This I dont understand. To lose a child is bad enough, but for your child to be murdered and it be potentially covered by the exact people whose job is to serve and protect goes beyond disbelief. Amazing investigative journalism👊💜
public moral is what they had to gain! you have to remember back then they wanted to clean it up, give people the answers they wanted and move on. i don't believe there was any sinister motives on behalf of the police, i think they were just morons and wanted to rush the investigation.

I think this is a corruption case. I’d love to look deeper into the associates of the lead investigator. Mob/biker ties? Kickbacks from a developer? Something stinks.

The NSW Police Commissioner at the time was the notorious Merv Wood. The date his term ended? 5th June, 1979.
My heart just bleeds for these people. The whole thing is so horrific. I can't imagine what they have all been through.

Mine too … it was horrific enough to have happened but to cover up something of this magnitude is wicked.
My God I never even heard of this tragic story I ran across it just surfing UA-cam and I'm not gonna lie I saw the first part and I shed tears for all of those who involved especially for those children and their father my heart goes out to all of the families who lost a love one in this tragic event 🙏

I was 10yo at the time, & loved Luna Park. I remember this well, or as much as a 10yo boy can remember.
To this day I've always had a fascination with Luna Park & always absolutely loved everything Luna Park.
As i got older & was able to understand things more clearly i was absolutely baffled at how Detective Inspector Doug Knight & the NSW Police handled or rather mishandled this investigation, basically swept in under the carpet, & held a Press Conference to tell us all an outright lie, that it was an electrical fire.
As stated in this video, once they cleared the 7th body, they should of treated it as a major crime scene, & very carefully spend days sifting through ababsolutely everything to do with this horrific Ghost Train fire.
I've read a lot & watched a lot of videos on this Ghost Train fire, the Big Dipper accident, & everything else Luna Park.
Now I found absolutely nothing to implicate DI Doug Knight or the NSW Police in this horrific fire. I also could not see or understand how they would benefit from covering it up.
Therefore I am at a total loss at why DI Doug Knight did not investigate this properly, told us all an outright lie - regarding the cause being an electrical fire, & making so many major mistakes, that you wouldn't even expect a Probationary Constable to make, that was fresh out of Goulburn
The Luna Park Ghost Train fire, was one of the biggest crime scenes of last century.
The most likely scenario was that it was deliberately lit. The evidence was there, however rather than carefully sifting through the evidence of the crime scene, the Police led by DI Doug Knight, allowed the crime scene to be cleared of all the evidence.
The evidence was there, waiting to be found that the fire was deliberately lit. However due to the major mistakes that the Police made either intentionally or through incompetence this evidence was destroyed.
I reiterate this was one of the biggest crime scenes of last Century. The mistakes that this senior Police Officer made, you wouldn't even expect a Probationary Constable fresh out of Goulburn to make.
The Police in allowing the crime scene to be promptly cleared, ensured that there was no crime scene.
now that i’ve watched this episode i have a feeling that those that set this fire are connected to the police. im sure the next & final episode will give us more insight… hopefully the answer. this is an excellent case to research & cover. the 7 victims deserve justice & their families deserve answers. it’s so tragically sad 😢

This ghost train fire was just tragic and horrible. My heart just broke for these people who have to relive this horrible tragedy. The police who worked on this case dropped the ball so many times. It's just terrible. I found it weird that the fuse box that was supposed to be the cause, you would think that there would be fire damage from the fire.
Dropped the ball? No they dribbled and manipulated that ball and then covered it up! 😢

This was terrible, I was a kid and my best friend’s cousin was at Luna Park that day but not involved. It was all over every news channel on TV. Our church ⛪️ had a vigil for the victims and everyone believed it was an electrical fault! 🫤
It’s too heartbreaking 💔 to think about the miscarriage of justice and the trauma it’s caused the witnesses…should never happen.

So this is my theory! One of the kids that set the fire was the chief of polices SON. So he had everything covered up.

This film is the way to do an inquest. Thoroughly. I'm thinking that the arsonists are known to the police and possibly related. A definite cover up. The fire chief should have done the original scene investigation. The whole thing stinks of incompetence. My heart goes out to all affected by this terrible avoidable tragedy
Maybe Doug should be investigated in his past. He was covering for someone. I think there More to this story

I was there that night I was 15 with all my friends we had been on the ghost train probably 10 minutes before so sad that there’s never got anyone for this crime rest in peace to those boys who passed away😇😇😇

What i want to know is why the big cover up? Who are they protecting and why? If it was arson, what would have been the problem with reporting it as such unless they were protecting someone involved in that arson, right?

Just look at the flames in those photos - there was definitely an accelerant used!
Remember though, that there were plastics burning. Plastics are made from petroleum products.
@@hbic3 yes, those can burn quite fierce. A building with one floor full of plastics burnt a few streets away from us and it took the firefighters a greater part of the day to put it out. The cement building was left a burnt out shell.

This documentary is outstanding, the extencive investigations that CARO MELDRUM-HANNA & PATRICK BEGLEY must have undertaken are a HUGE CREDIT to both of their journalistic abilities, This Documentary " in my opinion should be Nominated to receive the Documentary Australia Award and the $20.000 that goes with it

flames that massive & the lights still on, train still running, it looks like a fuel fire to me. of course im guessing, no one said anything about smelling fuel, idk what else it could be. im not very far through this episode, hopefully we find out or get more clues. how tragic & heart wrenching 😭😭

We were at Luna Park a couple of months before this, my cousin & I loved the ghost train we went on it numerous times the day we went it was quite claustrophobic in there I still remember it.

I’m coming up to the 55 minute mark now and I’m thinking that the reason the police are trying to silence Les Dowd, is because the perpetrators are part of the policemen’s families - either their own sons, or possibly brothers or nephews. I have thought this since part one - time will tell if I’m right. I am a policeman’s son myself and dad taught me to be observant too !

Greg Chard knew what he smelt. There was no confusion, he knew that he smelt kerosene I feel for People like Greg Chard. He pretty much still smells kerosene from the fire today.
I questioned the same thing, which she did a version of with another witness as well. I believe she had written to all of them, explaining all details and asking for phone #’s and permission to interview & tape their calls. Exact time & date would have been prearranged. She still should have introduced herself, but think they knew & were expecting the call.

I watch a lot of documentaries and true crime examination type shows, and police incompetence is disgustingly and disturbingly far more common and widespread than people realize. But THIS, the obvious undermining and blatant fixing of statements etc is so far beyond disgusting. The storyteller in me instinctively thinks that one of those bikies had a connection to the police or government, like family or something, that they wanted to protect their reputation by keeping that bloke off the police radar. Of course its only one theory and mainly just comes from my storyteller instinct, but some kind of deliberate cover up to protect someone or some group/organization does seem evident at this point honestly
My question is , why was it covered up ? Who were the police protecting ? Maybe someone should look into the families of the people who covered it up

I thought the fire dept normaly examines the scene then gives their report where fire started, if an excelerent was used ect yet they arecsaying the POLICE made the statement that there was no sign of the fire being deliberately started????

Usually cover-ups of things like this would be due to a “powerful” family being involved. Hush money, threats to lives or livelihood of those investigating the occurrence.

The problem having is, if this has been such a controversy for 45 years, HOW have all these witnesses not spoken VERY publicly for 45 years? How does this one, who then becomes a Criminal Attorney, just drop it and live their lives for all those years. No one demanded justice. An *entire community* never demanded justice. NO person or group is that powerful and untouchable against an entire community, an entire *country*, an entire *continent* that 40 some years can go by and light bulbs don't start turning on until a documentary team starts asking questions. Sure, the investigation was botched, but it was 1979. Nearly every criminal investigation at that time could be claimed to be botched by today's standards. Well-meaning investigators TODAY order or allow the clean up of horrific crime scenes to protect the sensitivities of the community, thinking it's the right thing to do. Investigators didn't know what they know today. The theory that a big wig ordered the fire to take over a lease...there? On *that* ride? IDK, doesn't sound plausible to me.
Sounds to me one of the bikeys was a son of a high ranking police officer.
