I’ve got the Countyline 25 ton splitter and have asked everyone on UA-cam that I see using the same splitter about the heat that I experience on my cylinder. Everyone has said that theirs heats up also. If I run mine in the summer for a couple hours you wouldn’t want to leave your hand on there long. Good video, when I’m done splitting this Fall I will also do the complete service. As you so accurately stated, really cheap insurance. Keep up the great videos, new subscriber here and thoroughly liking what I see.
Thanks so much for your kind words Bob. Not every video is a winner but I do put a bunch of effort into it. I also get a lot of heat and according to the manufacturer, up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit is fine. I thought that sounded high until someone said, what does your automatic transmission run at? That kind of put it in perspective as something to not have a ton of concern. Still seems hot to me but I am not a hydraulic engineer.
Thank you very much for the shout out . I really appreciate it very much . Great video on the full service of the splitter . Mine is coming due fast . Thanks for sharing !!
Preventative maintenance is key! Your splitter is almost identical to my Performance Pro from Lowes. Both made by YTL. Same main frame just different components. Thanks for sharing Woodruff 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the reminder video WW. The last three trips to the woodyard I was planning on changing my splitter engine oil and now that I'm leaving the house,I'm gonna grab the oil and filter wrench!👍👍
That is probably the most important part of preventative maintenance with splitters. With such a small oil reservoir, these small engines have to just break down oil quickly.
I do have a splitter similar to yours and I didn't realize that I had boiled the oil out of it. After that I watched things much closer. Thanks for the shout out. Harry P
Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed it. I have a Husky which I bought from TSC bout 17-20 yrs ago. 12.5,hp 35 ton. I almost liked that deer head on wall !!! Lol WW, have a great day & keep putting out the vids. Have a great day
I have heard good things about the Husky splitters and I believe they may also be made by YTL but do not know for sure. Hopefully another video coming this week. It is easier to produce videos when my real work isn't in the way.
My dad always taught me the same thing! I believe it's very important to maintain your equipment....it's too expensive not too!! Your sticker collection is pretty impressive!! Stay safe my friend
I’m sure most people forget to do a full service. But if your business depends on a machine, it’s very important. If nothing else, change the engine oil regularly as this keeps the engine in top condition. So pleased you are showing this.
I have been trying to let the splitter cool after about 30 minutes in this heat. We are mid 90’s this week and it may take a special kind of stupid to be processing firewood 😂😂😂. I sometimes really question my judgement!
Nice video. As far as the hydro temp, that’s normal. Check your truck transmission temp. Mine has a digital readout I can scroll to. It ranges from 185 to 205. The analog temp gauge will be right in the normal range. Have a good one and keep at it wood hound!
Nice maintenance video Darrin! I hate doing it, but it’s gotta be done. Good lookin’ sticker collection! Thanks for the shout out! 1000 subs right around the corner! Keep it up!
PMCS = big 💵 saved in the long run……easy to get caught up in the day to day rat race and let things slide. Great to see that even Husky guy’s realize how important it is……Hmmmm especially Husky guy’s 😏😎 Great video Darrin !! Even down to the seals an washers….lots of good points and details ! Great channel sticker trades too. Darrin thanks sharing the knowledge 👍🪵🪓🔥🚜⛓🪚👏🇺🇸 Rick
It has really surprised me how many people have said thanks for the reminder. I think I need to put together a spreadsheet for all of my stuff. Maybe I will do that and then share it with the community.
For the tire that keeps going down there is a product called slime ,you put some of that in and take it for a ride around the yard a few times to let it spread out in the tire and that should seal it up, i got a big thorn on my gator tire and it sealed it up.
Look at you with the play on words! I like that you are up on the cylinder. You have always been a great supporter of my channel even though you like those white saws. LOL
All good advice WW. Reminds me of a similar saying my dad had when I was farming and something would break down. Why don't you take care of your s#$t. Then this wouldn't have happened. If only I would've listened. Lol.
I just bought this, and was bewildered that it didn't have a detent action. Or is there a switch to make that work? ha never mind I didn't let it go all the way up. Would be nice to have it on the down too. Hands free
I must have missed the part in the video where you said how much hydraulic fluid you put in the tank. (?????) Never mind, i found the info. It takes 9.8 gallons of AW32, or AW46 Hydraulic oil. (AW46 is for lower temperatures) Temps at 32(F) degrees and lower, you can use automatic transmission oil. Automatic transmission oil helps let the engine start easier when its really cold out.
My splitter will blow oil out if on an incline. I used to take it out in the timber, would have to level it up every time. Now I bring the wood to it on the only flat ground I own.
@@woodruffwoods Didn't think of a second reservoir. I just changed my process and do all my splitting where my stacks are. I did like leaving the mess in the timber though. Lol.
@@ryanmoist498 I am sorry I don’t off the top of my head. I took a measurement of the inside diameter of the hub and bought these at an auto parts store
Really curious as to why the manual says their is an oil filter and I can't seem to find one. I happed to notice you did not change an oil filter either. Do you agree that there is no oil filter on this engine?
I got AW 32 at Rural King ! Great Job.
Thank you Stanley. I firmly believe a little maintenance goes a long way in many years of service.
Well thanks, now I gotta go over my splitter . 🤣🤣. Am seriously behind on splitter upkeep . Thanks for the reminder woodruff 💪☑️. See ya again
All of these machines take time to keep up with the maintenance. Hard to keep it all straight!

I am sure you are correct. I also think some homeowners do not know how to perform maintenance so maybe this will help someone out in that regard.
Great maintenance video!! With the heat here in SE Georgia been watching my hydraulic fluid more closely. Have a Safe Day

For some reason it takes us a lot of years to learn that lesson. Failing to do maintenance always costs more in the long run.
I just bought this, and was bewildered that it didn't have a detent action. Or is there a switch to make that work? ha never mind I didn't let it go all the way up. Would be nice to have it on the down too. Hands free
I suspect liability lawyers don’t like the idea of an auto cycle on the downstroke.

Break the rim , coat it with a coat off paint . When almost dry blow tire back on the rim . Mix your old hydraulic oil with new bar oil for chainsaw .

I do agree that there is no engine oil filter. The only filter I am aware of is for the hydraulic fluid. There is not even an in line fuel filter
I called them up and they stated that there is no oil filter and that it is just a manual typo.
@@Bamlydean That is probably something they should fix at least in the online version of the manual.
Log splitters take a real beating, if you don’t take care of them eventually they won’t be taking care of you.
I completely agree John. For what we pay for our tools, it only makes sense to keep them maintained. Thanks for watching and commenting.
