I First Became Aware Of The Late Great, Beautiful, And Wonderful Miss Mitzi Gaynor, Through Her Wonder Television Special's That She Started Doing In The 1970's And Learned Of Her Film Career Later And I Wasn't Disappointed I Fell In Love With Her And Her Talent Even More . She Was So Real As A Person It Just Jumped At Our Office The Screen Big And Small RIP Miss Mitzi Gaynor, You Will Surely Be Missed.
Your opinion of Mitzi is exactly the same as mine, I am almost ninety years of age and in all that time I have NEVER seen anyone who was better or more NATURALLY beautiful than Mitzi. May God rest her soul.
You bet she was a nd still stands out.listening to her now she is the best the and now! We miss her. Watch her old movies she is so talented. Beautiful
alexalex13131 Totally agree! She was just magnificent. I own the bluray and watch it all the time. She has a wonderful screen presence - definitely owned the role of Nellie.
I,ve never warched South Pacific.only the famous song clips. Nothing like a Dame is fantastic where Nellie comes jogging through ....' oh Luther.....'. And the haunting Bali Hi'ie. Think i'll watch it now though.
I love how honest Mitzi is in this interview - and all he interviews she gives on UA-cam. She says that she didn't have a movie star personae. I don't quite agree with her. Whenever Mitzi was on the screen in any of her movies, there was light, happiness, and effervescence.
The other side of the coin is that every interview you see on YT is stolen and the posters criminals. Those interviews are protected by copyright and none of the posters have permission from the rights owners.
It is refreshing to find one of the greatest film stars of her time with so much humility. What man wouldn't give his all to find such a wonderful human being. RIP Mitz. You are surely missed.
Believe me Mitzi, you are one of the main reasons why I continue watching South Pacific almost once a year with my wife and still love watching you playing Nellie Forbush from Small Rock Arkansas. Don't be so modest. I think that your acting skills were extraordinary enough to make me fall madly in love with the character you helped to create. I think I enjoy watching that movie as much now as I did when it first came out in 1958. My crush for you never waned, never, ever. I'll bet there are millions of other South Pacific aficionados who feel the same way I do. You touched us in a very special and tender way and that, I believe, is something you should be very happy about!
Matzo Gaynor you were more than good in South Pacific. You were absolutely perfect in that movie. You are absolutely beautiful. What a wonderful legacy to leave.
Very fine interview and video clip... Mitzi is one in a million... and very modest and forthcoming about her fame, talent and career. Her singing and dancing in that 1967 Academy Awards Show to Georgy Girl is the stuff of legend, as is her appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show that helped introduce the Beatles to America. Her place in history and in the entertainment industry is her's to keep now. Along with South Pacific, she will be remembered for all those wonderful television specials during the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s on CBS. Bravo Mitzi!
Mitzi Gainer has delighted me since I was a young man. She remains to me, one of the greatest performers, ever. Thank you so much for your gift to me and so many others.
Always loved her work....As a child, South Pacific was the very first Film I ever saw. I was mesmerized then and to this day, I will never forget how good the movie made me feel :-)
if Mitzi did have those thoughts, perhaps it answers the question as to why Mitzi did not become a massive film star, if it was down to talent alone and personality she should have been offered every part on offer, as she is a triple threat consummate entertainer.
So sad that this woman, who sparkled many peoples lives with her enchanting personality and to me was indeed a STAR and very good actress doesn’t think she is 🌷
She was magnificent ☺️ Very lovely voice and the dancing is superb. This is so raw kudos to you Mitzi. I wish my hair would grow out a different color 🧡🧡🧡
The idea that she "had no persona" blows my doors off. She's MITZI GAYNOR, fer cryin' out loud! Ever since I first saw her in South Pacific, I've had a crush on her. Even when she was "acting," as she puts it, she was adorable. She is one of my ALL-TIME FAVORITES!
She was wonderful in movies! I loved her; beautiful & very talented. I don't know why she thinks poorly of herself as an actress. such a adorable and sweet personality, and is one of my favorite actresses. I just finished watching "I don't care" and I really don't think anyone else could have done such a wonderful job on the movie than she did. Every movie of her's I have absolutely loved. I actually always admired her personality and acting skills. Well, Mitzi, you have at least one fan who thinks you were wonderful in movies and still are in life
Mitzi is adorable. Funny that she ended the interview with the statement 'look at my work, that is what I do'. I just finished watching a previous video interview with Mitzi and she said one of the reasons that she got the role in South Pacific is because she auditioned whereas other actresses did not, instead saying 'look at my work, that is what I do'.
She and an incredible figure and could sing and dance, if she felt time to get out then it was the right time to get out. She had the talent to stay longer but as she states did not want to do what she did not want to do. I can see her coming back and people loving her. Talented lady.
She makes a wonderful appearance on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964. Same show the Beatles appeared in on February 16, 1964 in Miami. She looked great. Apparently, the Beatles really enjoyed meeting her. They asked for her autograph.
She was just as cute as she could be. Her persona was the prettiest girl next door, that was the cheerleader, home coming queen, dated the capt of the football team and was absolutely wonderful to her little sister. I loved her movies and her specials. She and Bob Mackie were a team with costumes. Everybody thinks it was Cher. No it was Mitzi.
Just recently saw an interview with her and she said she never felt like she was anything special. Imagine being Mitzi gaynor and having self doubts when she is remarkable in her performances and her ability to connect with the audience ❤❤❤❤❤❤
This Beautiful Lady was honest ,humble, kept it real,to put it plainly She was not a Lady to be owned and pushed around and ...and was Not willing to "sell her soul"so to speak.
This taping was a single camera effort, common back when cameras were expensive. If you watch you can see the interviewer "acting" his questions (after they had turned the camera around and Mitzi was long gone...). Not to single him out and kudos to the editor for making it seamless, I just wanted to point out how hard it was to make television before computers...and cost effective tech...p.s. Mitzi could have, but did not feel like playing along. I admire her for that.
Refreshingly honest and down to earth. Have always loved beautiful talented Mitzi! I think if she had any true competition dancing and singing wise it was with the late great Doris Day who of course could also act! Thanks for sharing ~
I last saw and met Mitzi in 1973 at one of her stage performances of, "South Pacific". Wonderful lady and a consummate pro. Not many know that Elizabeth Taylor (lacked the voice) and Doris Day (Day's star-power was feared it might overpower the film) were first considered for the part of "Nellie" before Mitzi got the part. She was great!
Doris Day would have elevated “South Pacific” to an outstanding entertainment rather than a merely pleasant experience. The studio was not prepared to pay D.D. what she was worth (she was the world’s no.1 box office star). The result speaks for itself.”South Pacific” and ‘’My Fair Lady” were the two most successful shows in the history of Broadway yet they compromised on casting the female leads with the movie versions and I will never understand why.Doris Day and Julie Andrews were both head and shoulders above the others. .
They typecast her. She needed better management. Countless actresses were stuck in the "bubbly comedienne" slot until they were allowed to try drama. Back in those days they were really under the thumb of the moguls. Sad. In the end maybe she only really wanted to do the comedienne roles.
She is very sincere and absolutely right. To be a movie star or actress star you need a special persona... also very fair while talking about colleagues . I like her very much
She's So Beautiful, I think she's Smarter than all of them, She Was Too Honest& Authentic for Hollywood ...Im glad she's Comfortable with herself..She Stayed True to herself, I admire that🥰🤩😘
I could listen to her all day. So honest and articulate. Great live performer.
She wasn't just ordinary! She was fabulous! Couldn't take my eyes off her when she was in a film. It wasn't just her beauty. It was her presence.

R.I.P Mitzi Gaynor
Her honesty is incredibly refreshing.
Great personality : she is honest, humble : she's amazing
Actors today could use a lesson from her.
“Then my hair grew in blonde...” 😂 I’ve been waiting 40 years for that to happen to me!
She’s a cutie!
What a wonderful, humble, talented lady!
She's like a breath of fresh air! Love her!
Mitzi owned South Pacific. She was magnificent in it.
YES!!!!!

Star, I think she was so talented! Thanks for watching. I hope you will check out the other interviews on my Channel. Best to you.....
I am subscribing right now! Thanks for your kind reply. It's great to be a part of the "Mitzi Admiration Society."
So right. I had the opportunity to see her live (Latin Casino) in the early Sixties. She is 100% genuine.

OMG You thought you were ordinary?? We think you're extraordinary . Bless you Mitzi for all the joy you've given us ❤

What a joyful Lady, and I mean Lady. Thank you for posting.
I think she was wonderful in "South Pacific" and "Les Girls." I still find her fascinating!
What a fine down to earth talent. Open, honest and terrific in the process. Class act Mitzi.
Matzo Gaynor you were more than good in South Pacific. You were absolutely perfect in that movie. You are absolutely beautiful. What a wonderful legacy to leave.
Wow! Now that is sober introspection. And on camera no less! You're aces with me Mitzi.
Her dancing was outstanding. She was Cyd Charisse level.
I think she was better than Cyd Charisse in jazzy numbers -- Charisse looked too balletic in them (though she excelled in more balletic choreography).
No question mitzi and cyd both had the most beautiful legs in film history.
But not as good as her look-a-like Vera-Ellen. Eleanor Powell was the only other one at Vera-Ellen's level.
