I fell in love incurably and forever when I saw Mitzi in South Pacific. She was my image of the perfect girl. Even late in life, she charmed me completely. I saw her about 25 years ago on PBS when she was taking part in a fund drive. She was asked by an adoring host, "How did you get such a great voice?" Mitzi's answer expressed her native goodness and modesty. After a significant and puzzled pause, Mitzi simply asked, "Singing lessons?" The only good thing about her passing is that Heaven is now a far richer place. And best of all, Mitzi's dancing again.
My favorite of favorite. I can watch South Pacific over and over and over. Sad Hollywood is what it is now. She was class, smarts, sexy, a true entertainer. Thank you Mitzi, I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair.
Now there's only a few left from that era sadly, Terry Moore, Rita Moreno, Karen Sharpe, Ann Blyth, Mamie Van Doren and very few others are still with us.
Mitzi was so talented, sexy, and beautiful but managed to have a great personal life too. Many should learn from her! RIP Mitzi and know you were loved !
What a wonderful talented lady. Went to see South Pacific ten times, loving every minute of it. Every song was a treasure. R.I.P. dear Mitzi. You were terrific.
I went to acting school in LA. Frozen stiff, I had to sing a song of my choosing in (of course) the singing course. I chose Younger Than Springtime. South Pacific is simply in my blood, and Mitzi was the heart of the film.
I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT! That was fun to watch and listen to. I was always a fan of Ms. Gaynor and I'm pleased she could still "wink" at her fans! Her life was a contribution to the human spirit of JOY! May she rest in peace knowing she made so many happy memories for millions of people.
She's so matter-of-fact, rather deadpan in her responses. Love it! It's like she's done everything, seen everything and everyone. A full life we should all be envious of. What a true talent and wonderful human being she was.
God bless this incredibly special performer! And than you for letting us know she had Hungarian roots. So did my Mom, who was a chorus girl during WWII. 🙂
I remember watching this interview and just glad she was still alive, and had a lot of lived experience to actively remember and wit that made her a star. I liked how honest she was about her stardom. South Pacific might be the only film of hers I ever saw, but she made the film a touching one with her performance. May she rest in peace. You did good, Mitzi.
i was literally reading about her in a photoplay magazine 3 days ago, googled her and got all happy to see she was still alive, just to get the news of her passing 3 days later. So sad... I'll do a marathon of her movies today to celebrate her memory.
3 days ago was reading a 1950s photoplay magazine and it had a great article about Mitzi, so i googled her and got so happy to know she was still alive and kicking, just to get the news of her passing 3 days later. Really sad. RIP Legend
The camera did you love you Mitzi ❤🎥 Hollywood was the one not giving you the opportunities after 1960. You were wise to go to Las Vegas and tour the country with your musical extravaganzas from 1960 until 2005 so your career would continue. RIP
Gone away Mitzi Gaynor. Rest easy. In my elder years, I've become more patient. Have collected dozens of films on YT. Her generation had many true entertainers. Betty Hutton, Doris Day, Elizabeth Taylor, Dorothy Lamour, Joan Blondell, Barbara Stanwyck, Eve Arden, Myrna Loy. The list is endless. They came up the hard way. Talent and craft. I try to make young adults aware of the legacy they left us.

We're losing the true entertainers more and more. My condolences to the family of Mitzi Gaynor for their loss. She was quite a performer whether it was in South Pacific or any of her TV specials. She will be greatly missed. Thank you, Ms. Gaynor, for making the world a better place.
Mitzi was a great all around entertainer and she made millions happy in both her movies and television appearances. RIP Mitzi, your performances will live on. ❤
I saw her do her Las Vegas show in Atlanta around 1970. One of her jokes was when she looked into the audience and said, “I see you out there with your binoculars. You’re looking for the scars.” She was probably right. She could laugh at herself. But she looked fabulous.
@@lisakwaterski6707 I saw an interview with her in which she discussed the lack of kids. She and her husband tried but it just wasn't possible, she said.

One of the last Hollywood legends! On Howard Hughes, 'I think he wanted to get into my pants.' Absoultely love her! Like talking to one of the gals.

Amen.
That is so true.
You're absolutely right. Our world is far poorer than it was when Mitzi was unsuccessfully washing Emile our of her hair.
@@fernandomaron87 I had to look up Karen Sharpe. Ugh... the Jerry Lewis story. Of course, I believe it.

Oh, Mitzi, the camera did to love you, you were gorgeous!
Yes, she was!
What a dish, to use a popular phrase from her era. Absolutely stunning in her appearance and figure and one of the best pair of gams ever!
A great performer, a fine lady, her Too Darn Hot number the second time The Beatles were in Ed Sullivan Show was 1-derful !!!

Thank you, MITZI GAYNOR for doing your part to help tame mankind with your gift and talent. You were one of the last of the showbiz golden era greats.
She's beautiful! ❤
Mitzi's real name was Francesca Mitzi Gerber. May she rest in peace.
There's the eternal "Ginger vs. Maryann" debate among men my age. These guys never saw Mitzi. She made a boy put away his toys and long to be a man.
Wasn't she great? Such a fun lady.
Amen.
Rest in Peace Mitzi.
she was a darling.....i will miss our walks down by the river at nite.....
I didn’t even know she died today. I have to wiki and find out. May she rest in peace.

Talking dirty about Howard Hughes in a squeaky clean way. She was quite the actress and entertainer!
She talked dirty about her South Pacific co star too. I noticed the interviewer quickly turned the scrapbook page.
