I am a professional singer and met him last year ( he has a residence out here in Palm Springs, Ca.). I asked him what song did he wanted me to sing to him and he requested, Somewhere Over The Rainbow. He's a real nice man.
What an inspiration of true glamour and innovation. The fabulous one and only Bob Mackie. I think The Supers said it best in their song, My World IS Empty Without You Babe. Thank You Bob Mackie. Gorgeous Darling.
Bob you are a true MASTER OF FASHION DESIGN.....your works are breathtaking....I can't say enough about how I truly love your styles ..the world should be forever in your debt and gratitude....you truly are a gifted artist......I wish you could design women's clothing.line ...I would wear your clothes all the time.....with honor and grace....God bless ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Bob Mackie was a mentor when one of my children attended Otis in LA . Very inspiring wonderfully creative . I’ve always loved his designs such an innovator
I wonder how did Mackie do the costumes on a weekly level? But I bet maybe it was planned way before the sketch was done on the Carol Burnett show. I grew up watching that show and loved the designs that were made.
According to his book Dressing for Glamor he would absolutely design everything in a week. He would get what the skits were going to be on Sunday and have to have everything mostly ready by Friday/Saturday. Luckily he didn’t have to build everything himself lol n
My mother used to make clothes and costumes for us when we were little...never having to use patterns, she could measure us and make her own patterns. I used to sew from patterns only, and pattern- inspired, hand- and machine-sewn clothing done well look sooo much better than off-the-rack just in the drape and detail if you use good material. But i used to get so frustrated in trying to make things perfect, it took the fun out of it a lot of times for me and finally gave up. I was a busy working mom who just didnt have the patience for it I guess.
"just because it is a costume it doesn't have to look like crap" well yours mostly did !! this guy has got nothing to do with fashion design (well maybe in Las Vegas lol)
nine time emmy winner. three time oscar nominee, Tony award winner, member of the television hall of fame. honored friend and colleague to some of the most talented and successful entertainers around. i guess he'll just have to live down your criticism.
@@talkinghead2004 ....BOB...is way too busy wearing sunglasses to deal with all the beautiful sequins and beads to be bothered with such trite opinions....
@@talkinghead2004 thank YOU ! not for me but for the person u replied too, Olav Wilhelm. I'm 53 now & I totally remember Bob Mackie gowns . I had this Drag queen friend in the 90s that I once went to the mall with her, we walked into Saks Fifth Avenue..... Next thing you know we werent even there that long later knowing that she clipped/ripped off a Bob Mackie evening gown. So that's MY story knowing about Bob Mackie

The Carol Burnett "Curtains dress" is legendary.
Absolutely my favorite. Where did he get these ideas?❤
Sultan of sequins indeed! Boss of the Bugle beads and of course king of the curtain rod!!!
starting out with the marilyn dress! what a career 🖤

AMAZING ARTIST !
Love his work! I grew up watching Carol Burnett and Cher wearing his designs on TV every Saturday night.
Love that!
I have known who Bob Mackie was since I was five years old watching the Sonny and Cher show. Truly my favorite designer. 🦚🎆

and i have heard, from people he has worked with, that he is a genuinely nice guy. so much talent and humor… and a decent human being.
Why does anyone need to be an asshole. Is it really that hard to be a decent human. Good on you Bob x
His creatons for Cher were fabulous!
The history at making before our eyes

Loved this episode. I do find it hard to hear the clips due to the background music though which is a shame.

Nice to hear your story.
I recall Edith Head was the one who created the Marilyn image.
I remember his name in regards to club 54 costumes
❤️❤️❤️
yaaaaass kamora
Haaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllll!!!!♥️
Cher’s headdresses!!
He did lots for Cher.
Kahmora Hall!!!!!
I asked him if I could work for him for free even if what was picking pins off the floor. (I was a fashion design school graduate.) He said no.
I hope he was respectful x
Tacky and flashy. Great fun to look at. What would he have done with Marilyn Monroe?
Was def a costumer rather than a fashion designer.
🤑🤑🤑🤑
🤍
Thanks
When you are a great designer and start to sell your clothes on TV, it is time to retired!!!
He had his heyday. We agree.
Brad Bird does a better Edith Head than Edith Head! 😁
Imagine working along side of Bob M only to learn 'HE' did it all by himself. BS Artist. No one does it alone
the music was horrible
Music is always a personal choice.
