What other experiments would you all like to see?
drop test. i hate it when my gpu falls out of my pocket
jd you forgot the potatoes that's why
Bring back your Sister! She's funny!!
You can also try re-flashing the bios on the card. They can sometimes become corrupted (weird but true).
The King of Random has retired so you could do experiments that involve computer components with petrol, gun powder, nitrogen, butane, bleach, propane, bubbles and fire arms.
Had the same card, same issue, baked it and fixed it. It worked for a month and died again yesterday. The temps I used were very high, 250C - 5 minutes preheat, and 220C - 10 minutes bake, 250C - 2 minutes, and I let it cool down slowly at room temperature. Baked 14.12.2019, died 15.01.2020.
Maybe you could try and use another output port... my GPU's HDMI port stopped working so I bought a DVI to HDMI adapter and used the DVI port and a year later it's still running fine
Wow, sucks to lose a gpu at this horrible point and time...hope you figure out a fix....and for the merch, go for it, I'd happily support you :-)
Hey thanks Michael, yeah if doesn't work I'll figure out something to do with it! And thanks for the love and support, really appreciate it my dude :)
Typing this from a $5 Gtx 780 works after 2 heatgun hits...
Whatever happened to you're card ,happened to mine too (EVGA 760GTX) ,now I'm down to using my 4790k's iGPU.Which in comparison makes the 760 seem like a TitanX
Actually you did it the wrong way. I mean you baked it correctly but you are suppose to cover the rest of the GPU with aluminium in order to avoid any "melt" on other components.
Then you can bake it. And when you get the card back from the oven, you are supposed to "press" the DIE in order to make the contacts all even again.
What the oven do is actually melting the soldering point so that the defective ones can be "redone" when you press the DIE.
I did it twice, on a 8800GT and on an old laptop (could not remember the GPU chip but it was definitely a NVidia one) and it all worked like a charm :D
Anyway thanks for sharing !
Do you know any guide the does it right?
@@tomic_iam I don't remember all the details, but afaik you are supposed to cover the rest of the card and only expose the die. Then apply a small presure onto the die before it cools down. It's a bit tricky and is only temporary (last time I did it, it only holds for a couple of months).
@@julienr28 thanks for the helpful info
lol, my gtx770 died on february too. My friends gtxx770 died too. It happen after playing on test server of PUBG. Baking helped.
Baking a GPU in an oven? How about what happened to the Cap's , the SMD's etc. ? No insults intended - however a Heat Gun Station is the way to go on all SMT devices. They're not inexpensive though. Certainly this can be accomplished with a 20 watt max. Soldering iron. Clean up the flux. Aside from all I've committed on - don't use paper towels! Otherwise good job on pulling the GPU apart.
Since you are "JD" make a spoof "Jack Daniels" bottle tech t-shirt. 😉
my MSI R9 270 died on me for no reason, i was playing NFSU2 and the pc just shoot off itself and then when i turn it on, fans 100% and black screeen..
i decide to take it for a spin in the oven, 190 degrees celsius for 8 minutes. and it worked!! Idk if i had luck, but im happy.
6 months have past since baking it and it still works perfect!
Jd you know your like not supposed to use the same oven you use to cook food on your gpu right
I'm about to try this and doing my research first, but one thing I've picked up is you absolutely do not move the gpu while it's hot, this is because while the solder is liquid the solder can move, parts can move etc. So let it cool in the oven first. Also supposed to be able to smell the solder flux as if you were soldering once it has reached the correct temperature, and be as diligent as possible about it not going over 200c as the chips may burn. I'm going to find some happy ending videos now as I really need it right now lol
my EVGA 1070 SC died on me the other day. It's a shame because it's a beautiful card. This happened as a slow process, I didn't know what was going on at first. My system went into a boot loop mode a few times in the span of like a month, then at an overclocked 75hz refresh rate for my monitor, I would get very thin static lines, so i ran 60hz. I replace my PSU for a Corsair CX 750M thinking it may have been the PSU. Through further diagnostics, i figured out it was the GPU. Luckily I found a replacement within the next few days at a local PC shop I didn't know existed. I now rock a 2070 MSI ventus.
Peep the shirt 👀
OzTalksHW heyyyyyy
If you get another I would apply new thermal paste before using. I think you can reflow much of the solder with an actual soldering iron fairly quickly.
Agreed. I'm going to try a couple different techniques
really good home cooked - uh i mean revive this gpu LOL
Bananas?! LoL!
Tasty at best, but not a repair. LoL!
This "oven" heat treatment, has already been proven to be ineffective as a GPU repair.
It tends to weaken every soldering point and not really cause a "re-flow" of the solder on the PCB.
This could be considered adding insult to injury, when it come to GPU repair.
Note: The PCB isn't designed to withstand the overall temperatures of an oven.
Bananas always fix my GPU issues ;) Yeah I don't think any part of it is any good for the long term, but it was worth trying and experimenting!
I would beg to differ and I'm guessing, that Louis Rossmann would agree.
Even so, it was fun to watch and quite entertaining. 👍
Thanks.
Well I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the support Sam!
👍
@@jdtechgearThis really was fun to watch. Instead of Banana's how about a full loaf of Garlic Bread extra strong- Peter Griffin would! Just joking with you! ☮️ 🧄 🍞
Gd luck ... sometimes its a driver issue .... but u can try getting a heat gun and resolder everything ....
Iv just done this same trick on a GTX560 I was trying to review (but turned out to be dodgy) - I honestly still cant believe it worked! I know its not permament but I was able to use it for hours doing some heavy benchmarks and even video editing so well and truly a gamble that paid off!
It's funny that people think that "ovening" is some kind of a meme/troll/joke but it's actually a thing
u cant use that oven any more because of all the fumes the soldering leaves when u bake the gpu
I doubt that, ovens are made with strong materials that are easy to clean, just clean it with oven cleaner.
Like do you think the materials are just forever floating around in the oven or that they taint the sidewall beyond repair to the point where they off-gas for generations to come? XD
😒 Sir Y U won't use Liquid Flux???? 🤔..
YOU DID IT WRONGE.I had an msi r9 380 that i had the same problem. You put it the wronge way in the ovin.you have to pput it upside down .i did that and for me worked
Nice , i have done that twice in a gtx460 direct-cu and a gtx470 stock cooler both by ASUS and worked like charm (for about 3 months that is) but i have "Baked" them for about 15 minutes :)
Like the light show. Have no idea what that was all about. Last time I really had fun was working with Res -Edit. Mid 1980's.
Revived my 2060 😂
RIP GPU lol great video now I am hungry pc parts lol lest go to frys lol MERCH EPIC
i suggest to let it cool down on its own inside the oven. i pulled mine out right after 7 minutes timer and everything , yes, everything on the board including the main chip came apart. it was sad but i was laughing at my own stupidity. it was an experience tho. hey, i just baked my r9 290x and bought it back to life. worth it i think.
i baked a amd 280x for 380 for 10 minutes and that fixed my gpu im going to try the same thing with my current GPU i have crossfired i seem to be getting loads of BSOD with the GPU running when i had this GPU as my main unit the screen would be going black i swapped it over to have my other card as the main one now i am geting a crap load of BSOD so i am hoping to cook it at 380 and see if that fixes the GPU
i have cross fire off so so far no BSOD i have SC2 running and some videos in the background just to see if it craps out on me again!
DONT. it will "work" for a while but that's not reflowing, and hurts the board overall. don't bake your computer.
if its broken does it really fucking matter better that than throw it away
It's dead anyways haha
I baked a badly artifacting GTX580. It worked for me & its now been well over a year. My sons been gaming on it most days. So not always a temp fix.
what was the temps?
Best bet, heat gun, That solder doesn't melt till 190C. So, you aren't really doing anything there by putting it in the oven at that temp.
Most people use a heat plate, to heat up the surrounding PCB, then use the heat gun to hit the top of the chip to get the chip package up to melting temp.
Then it should be OK once it re-melts. Albeit lead free solder doesn't tend to like being re-flowed. lol. Most re-ball it with leaded solder if failure happens.
Nice try though.
Thanks Nathan
i also did this with hd7770 but same problem again. Then i moved to other pc and at first time it was not working and in second try gpu start burning. maybe the vram module was burning. it was like firework.
JD, what hardware should I get if I wanted to get a 1440p 144hz monitor and play at pretty high settings.
Mr.Lazybonez everything from 1080 up to 1080ti and a i5 8400 or ryzen 5 1600 and everything higher then these processors
Rafa K alright, thank you!
If you want 100hz on almost every game at that resolution I'd recommend 1070ti to 1080ti. If you're cool with 90ish hz I'd recommend a 1070. Hope that helps
Hey JD, can you just try to flash the bios? Thanks!
If you have a screen try re downloading the rom and using nvflash
Holy shit!!! you had 6.5K 1 year ago now you have 25K!!!
Well had to try and it made a Great Video -- Thanks -- Also First 65 or Older
when you turn 66 will you change your post to "Also First 66 or Older"??? hahaha :p
Did that when I went from 64 to 65 but will leave at 65 , I am 66 now looking at 67 lol
I would use a heat gun, seems like a semi legit way to fix it.
Soldering = "soddering". You can pronounce it either way! Great video as always. :)
Maybe another cooking video in the future??
I felt like I was saying the right thing, but for some reason I thought I wasn't XD Like actually cooking? Haha
Better get a heat gun instead. By putting the whole gpu into oven all the component are heated unnecessary and become degraded. By the way I fixed 1 using heatgun.😁👍
Fellow Nerd checking in! This is how we learn lol
Try to flash the bios on the card
i baked my GTX 780 on fire instead of oven and it worked...
flash it
REDUX is french.....so should be pronounced as such. A duck goes quack quack on a pond.
Try reflashing the rom
Use an electric iron on the die. Some people have had that method work.
I'll look into that, thank you!
ded inside
You need to put it in the microwave it will fix it and you will get better overclock.
U have done it on the wrong side.. rip it
After baking. Cool it down by freezing it for 20 minutes.
But it in the fridge? Lol
That accent though lol
Rubbing alcohol destroys thermal paste.
Thats the point though
my 770 also died yesterday and I baked it back to working
Did it had error 43 with no reason at all too? My 770 died today should i bake it?
@@trollek7823 for sure, 10 mins at 190C did it for me
preheated
@@Haykke thanks I will try this too then thanks fellow 770 user 👍
@@Haykke yo i cant belive this actually worked :O my 4gb 770 is now alive thank you
Try bios update?
Dope accent in the ingredients section lol!
RIP GPU...
JDCookingGear
Louis Rossman & Linus had a big thing about this about 18 months ago.
50PullUps yeah and the internet told people about this method ages ago before, he's just showing his subscribers about his experience with this method like, sure why not
Nice try tho :)))
is it possible to increase vram in gpu for example 780ti has alot of cuda bad only 3gb of vram
You can't increase the vram, once the card is made its made, the only think you can potentially physically change is the cooler, thermal paste, and thermal pads
@@jdtechgear even if we change the bios
I have a broken flickering hd5450 how do i fix it?
Same way i bought a 770 to say but it acts wierd under a bit load
next time make sure the balls aren't touching anything that could be soldered on the back of the card,
DO A ROM FLASH THAT WILL FIX IT
Thanks mate I'll try that next!
Look up the rx560 it's a nice card as well
Absolutely!
worked for me
I'm trying this on my vaga 56
bake it again. :D
\
i did my gpu at 350 do not pre heat boil not bake make sure ur chip is not facing the heat rail at 350 at 5 mins only and let it cool down works great on my end
louis rossman is coming for you...
Change the drivers
Pretty certain it's a VRAM issue.
send this card to me I'll fix this for you 👍
He is so handsome
I wouldn't bother doing this, because:
1. It's a temporary fix, even if you manage to get it to work, it will last a few weeks max.
2. In the process you'll contaminate the oven with all kinds of poisonous materials.
I've heard stories of it working for a while and some others not. But ultimately, just wanted to see what would happen since it's already dead. But I do agree it can lead to contamination
I'd give the oven a good scrubbbing If I were you just in case...
If you don't have a conventional oven a microwave will work, just reduce the time a little.
lolz
