Great advice! Yes a carbon skinny boom changes everything, and setting up the footstraps properly is so important. I prefer ~80% carbon content for masts - cheaper than 100%, and a more forgiving ride. Winds are a bit light where I (65kg) am, so my quiver is 3.7/4.2/5.0 on a 86L freewave (I also have an 81L wave board for really good days!).
Really useful, especially on fin size and position + which conditions best suit thruster or quad set ups. Less fiddling with sail tuning is also interesting. Thanks Lucas!
Great video. Thanks a lot. I have to say i was surprised to see you in the grip 3 in chile while it would be ideal conditions for the grip 4 in my idea. But I guess you have to make choices. I personally preferred when the grip had 5 fin boxes. As an intermediate user, I find it great to have the same board and play with the fins depending on where I go and also on my own improvement. I probably wouldn’t know which one to buy now and would choose another brand with 5 boxes. But it’s a personal choice. Also because I try to minimize the amount of gear I carry around. Cheers anyway. Thanks for the video
Great advice. Id like to add its worth tayloring your quiver to your spot. Its tempting to go for full on wave gear when you might be better on freewave Inbetweener boards and sails. The waves only get decent in my spot when its 4-4.5 weather. So ive got a 4.0 super hero and 4.5 super session HD and a 5.0 super session. The super sessions are lighter and better in bump and jump. And the super heros are stronger but heavier for the bigger days ..
Do you try boards from other brands for comparison? As a light weight rider it could be interesting. All grips are developed for the weight of Victor, right?
@@j.a.physio6221 I have tried some other boards. It would be really cool to do a ‘stab in the dark’ like video but pretty difficult logistically. Most board development starts with one size and other sizes are then tested. So no they are not necessarily for Victors weight
Thanks Lucas. I am still a little puzzled on the fin setup. Are you using the front fins on the quad with an angle? And what is your experience with 0° and up to 2°… Thanks, Axel
Hi Lucas, why don't you sail the SuperHero 4.5 with your Grip4 69? I'm considering purchasing 4.5 & 4.0 and paired them with a Goya Custom 4 74, which should be similar to your Grip4 69, at least in terms of volume and width. I'm 65kg and my goal is to start planning as soon as possible without purchasing a bigger board. Do you think is feasible? Thanks.
Hi, 4.5 is too big personally for my 69L. In my opinion your 74L will be fine with 4.5. It's 5L more than mine. I have a new 73L that works perfect with 4.5 now!
Hia. So far it's because of budget reasons. Next year I will be on full platinum. I choose to get 340 platinum because I wanted that extra direct feeling when the conditions get super windy. The gold has almost the same performance but now I'm looking for the extra details to gain an edge!
Awesome. Loved the detail and insight into you set up. Excellent work putting everything into context for your size and conditions you use them in.
@@jameselks1529 cheers glad you enjoyed it
Sharing waves and experience, i like this attitude ✌🏼
Best setup video about windsurfing on youtube ! Thank you for sharing
cheers, no worries

Great video, very informative. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙏🌊
Really interesting, much smaller boards then I thought
@@Miketoveyorginal no worries. Yep - it’s all relative to weight remember. It’s not that small when you think Koster uses 90 L when he weighs 95kg
Start using assymetric fotstrap settings. Riding in front, jumping to the back. The boards are better than you know.

@@JennyFox-x9f no worries. I’m learning things every day always recommend tuning equipment and find what works
@@LucasMeldrumK90 I'm also using much smaller boards in lighter winds than I used to (esp in lumpy bumpy conditions) and really enjoying it.

@@andreslarrain2790 grip 3 is more for onshore but still performs well in good waves compared to the old mamba as it holds the rail very good.

@@natkingcol909 yep great advice. A lot of people get an extreme wave board for their bump and jump spot when it’s not needed

Hi Yes. I use 2° Ezzy. More toe in = looser board, just like surfboards. You can read more here: www.k4fins.com/2016/06/22/toe-in/

Hi Lucas, just a small question about your masts : why patinum 340 et gold 370 ? And not full platinum ? Or 340 gold and 370 platinum ?

Its linear. Divide and multipy.
