Riding the M9

- A short ride report on the M9 -- not very elaborate because it was made to test some camera positions and audio equipment
But, it has some views of a fairly new Velomobile model, which many haven't seen in the flesh yet.
There will be more footage and more profound reporting on the M9 features once my health is back, weather get nicer oder here, and I'll have a bit more time -- and, most importantly, have found a suitable place to mount the 360° camera.
The positions I try out in this little video give better footage than I expected; much less vibration than I thought I would get, but I am not satisfied. I need something I don't have to worry about during the ride, that won't fall off like I suspect the suction cup might; and that allows a good view around.
Great video, Josef! I love how "in the velo" Josef often contradicts "video editor" Josef😊 Well done! I hope you are feeling better...
Nice looking forward to more videos of the M9.
Thank you so much for your video efforts. You made the point about where you think the best position for the camera is. The first time I saw any of your videos was with this view up on top behind your head, and I started watching them all one after another, straight away. I love to see the beautiful countryside as well as hear your thoughts about the vehicle.
Thanks for doing this even when you weren’t feeling to well. The camera viewpoint that you traditionally use is what originally drew me to your videos. The combination of viewpoint and commentary is win win brother . Take care and I hope you feel better soon.
Science tell it! Always keep your nose warm to prevent colds!
Ski glasses are great for bike riding in the winter!
Tinted glasses for sunny days - untinted ones for evening and night.
Regards.
danke jozef fur kurtze erklarubng uber m9 und gute erholung gewunchd
Maybe a very late comment, But what brand, model of helmet did you use?
Does the helmet fit inside a fully covered (=battle mountainhood) velomobile? Is it cool enough in summer?
Does it have MIPS "protection" functionality?
As interested I am to learn about your helmet visor brand, model.
Is it good, comfortable? Does visor fog up in uphills?
Does it fog up standing still in front of red lights?
(Since it not double glased. But maybe enough open/ventilated in the rear chin area)
Tip: I use a loosely knitted thin merino whool head baraklava that protect my cheek and chins against the worst windchill in just above zero-close subzero temperatures so far(when needed). But you probably allready found something better suited for your riding conditions.
Grüss von Schweden,Stockholm neues velomobilnaut
PS Interesting with different camera perspectives on your riding for a new velonaut like me (going into my first velonautwinter (but my 21st "as adult" work commuting etc bicyclewinter)).
The helmet is a Casco SpeedAero 2. very comfortable with excellent ventilation and a nearly perfect visor. I can wear my normal glasses underneath, and the visor effectively protects the full areas around my eyes in all conditions. Rain can easily be wiped off by hand. No fogging.
Don’t know about MIPS, if that is any technical requirement in Europe, this helmet will meet it. It will likely not fit under any hood, but it might fit under the hood of my M9. When I use the hood I don’t wear a helmet.
Another insightful video, thank you. Your comments about the tank vs tiller steering regarding the seating position are interesting, and I found myself rolling my shoulders and imagining the narrow M9 seat vs a wider seat. It is interesting that my ICE VTX has "tank-like" steering, but the very comfortable seat is more cocoon-like than the narrow M9 seat. Did you purposefully reduce the image quality on this video, since it is an equipment test attempt and not a proper ride? The sound with the external microphone was good, but the image quality at 750p was bad; i.e not good enough to enjoy the ride with you. I also agree with you that the hump-position for the 3D camera would be better. Maybe just a rearward facing camera with mike on the side, for when you add some narration. Keep the videos coming!😄😎🚀 Hope you recover soon, I hear a Velo ride a day, keeps the Dr away!
Thanks. Lower resolution was on purpose, as this is not like a normal ride video I would do. Wanted processing to remain quick n easy.
as a camera mount, how about a strong neo dimyum magnet glued under the body with the camera on a mount above the body? thank you for your videos.
That might be an option. I have doubts, though; it may not hold on bumps or rough surface (such as cobble stone). In the meantime I have glued the same mount on the hump that I used on my previous velomobiles. Works well; see my newer videos on this channel.
Nice machine! When it's HOT with a tiller steering you can put your elbows outside to get more air.....with tank steering you have to stay inside all the time. Not convinced it would be for me
I am (or maybe: I was) a big fan of tiller steering until I rode the M9 for an hour. You get more air at your chest with the arms out of the way. However, I agree about elbows. It is possible to put them out when climbing because you can steer with the right bar which has the rear shifter on top. Higher speeds in the heat I counter with one arm out, just like I do in the DFxl.
The question is : what if you fork out the money for the velomobile then discover it doesnt fit right as in too small or uncomfortable?
Do some extensive test riding. The other way to go is buy a used one to see how you like velomobiling and its various aspects. Then you will know better what you want. Not trivial because you don’t know yet what you don’t know about riding a velomobile.
