As someone who would love to try Baseball, but hasn’t played since Kindergarten, what would be your best advice on catching up to all the other players with more experience? What forms of practice would you recommend not involving a legitimate team so that I could practice before/ in between seasons if I get on some sort of team? As I said, I’d really like to give the game a shot, as I’ve watched for years, and I’m trying to find a sport to put time and effort into to try to get a worthwhile experience. Love the video, and I feel like it’s helping already, but I would love to hear what advice you would have for me if I wanted to work gain experience and attempt at real skill!
My biggest recommendation would be to just get out to the field every single day and work on improving a certain area of your game. There's lots you can do on your own so there's really no excuse. It's not going to be easy and you'll have to put in a lot of hard work, but I think in the end it'll be worth it! I recommend ironing out your swing on the tee as well as getting a friend to do soft toss, front toss, and BP with. If all else fails, take lots of swings off a tee. If you've got a partner you guys can hit each other ground balls and fly balls. If not, you can use a wall. You can also play catch and work your way out to long toss distance. Again, if no partner is there simply get a bucket of balls and throw them into a net or backstop.

I’ve coached baseball and softball for 25 years. I currently softball at the collegiate level. I also work with young hitters. This is the best overall basic hitting video I have ever seen. This coach understand that there can be individual difference with some aspects of hitting and it’s ok. He also does a great job of teaching and keeping it simple! If your looking for a simple effective way to hit this is it! Keep up the good work coach!
I'm using my dad's account but since we are gonna hit a few balls I just wanna thank you for this, my baseball season is finna start in one month since its near march.
Love these tips! My son is having a lot of trouble hitting and yet his coach and other coaches agree with his build and athletics, he should be able to kill it. We plan to concentrate on hitting and pitching this summer and can't wait to get started with this on day one. Thanks!
You're welcome! So glad you're enjoying the tips and I hope they help him progress this summer!
Bruh this man or coach the best explainer I now see what I'm doing wrong thank you UBT

Thanks for this video! I’m a father of a 3 & soon to be 5 year old boys. I’ve always been athletic and played sports, soccer and football but NEVER baseball. So here I am!, watching your videos to be able to teach my oldest son how to play baseball! I’ll definitely be watching your videos! 👍
how is it so far? 😁
Super helpful tutorial! Lots of our videos are about specific drills for hitting, but we lack a simple video on the basics. Love to see others teaching the game of baseball and trying to grow the sport.
Great video Bro. Never been big on baseball, but Introducing it to my son it’s his first season at 9years old. I’m now learning all the fundamentals so I can help him with his craft, and this video was as good as it gets with how u break it down. Good job G!
Great job on explaining so many tips. I have watched many of your videos and I would sure like to see another minute or so of YOU actually doing the swing or throw in regular speed and in Slo-mo speed
Key points:
- Dance with the pitcher, keep moving
- Load against your back, not over
- Bat a bit over shoulder lenght
- Front shoulder a little down, back shoulder a little up
- Swing starts when heel drops
- Heels drops in front and back heel rises simultaneously
- Stay tight, stay connected for more strenght
- Elbows must stay same distance all through the movement
- Palm up, palm down
- Barrel below bat
Thank you so much I’ve never played baseball and I always feel I’m bringing my team down whenever I get out bc I just can’t bat, but after seeing this video I feel as if I can hit a ball now

Thank you so much for this video I recently made my JV baseball team and I’ve been having trouble trying to get my swing down. It’s not really my strong suit and I’m probably the worst hitter and tomorrow I have practice and I’m gonna have headphones in while I practice at a T and hopefully this is gonna help me because baseball is my favorite sport and I’ve been trying so hard to get on this team and I finally did it and I don’t wanna let my team down. But I know it’s gonna work out so thank you so much in advance you don’t know how much this means to me. Keep up the amazing videos you definitely deserved my sub and like 🤙🏽

Hey Justin. My 12-yo just started baseball and I'm assistant coaching which is a stretch as I never played a single team sport growing up, just surfed. I'm finding your hitting and throwing mechanics videos super helpful. We've been heading to the field between practices and working on fundamentals. Thank you so much. Looks beautiful where you are. Playing "Over the Line" at 65 and wasn't getting much power so I looked for "How to hit a baseball." This video made a huge difference and my male teammates noticed a big change. I'm a bigger gal and the only other gal on the team weighs 105 lbs. I told her to check this video out. Thanks!
I have never gotten past Tee ball I just recently had a desire to go to the batting cages. This is exactly what I needed a lot of stuff on UA-cam seems to be geared towards kids who are already getting coached or know how to play somewhat.
I'm going to have my oldest watch this, over and over and over and over and over again!!!! But before I do that I'm going to record him at batting practice so I can then show him what hes doing wrong. Thank you for your videos, they are being put to use.
Hey man great video, love baseball and this was super helpful. I've been thinking of doing something similar to what you're doing, what do you use for recording video and audio?

Appreciate the video. I'm 27 and have been coaching my lil sisters softball team the last couple months. It reignited my love for baseball. I only played in middle school 3 years but I made the all star teams every year and was naturally good imo. I never had formal training or anything.
I plan on joining some sort of rec league and playing again after I lift and get back to hitting and fielding. Any tips?
great video! thank you so much!
I just got into baseball recently at the age of 28, but that ain't stopping me, I'm definitely hitting the batting cages near me after my bat comes in. Maybe I can get my boys to teach me how to throw and maybe learn a pitch or 2.
Hey Coach Justin, thanks for the video, extremely helpful. As an older beginner, I jumped into an adult league and obviously have a lot to learn. I had a couple of AB and got a single, but my back knee is now bothering me. It hurts to straighten the leg completely. I'm sure I'm missing many of these fundamentals, but are there stretching or dynamic exercises I can do to try to make sure this doesn't happen anymore? Thanks!
COACH-
You are amazing to watch!
Your knowledge is Impressive, thanks for sharing.
I always learn something new every video, I thought I knew it all already! Wink!
Thank you very much!!
This was posted 5 years ago and I just learned from it. Great video. Thank you! Never thought I would watch it, thou, in fear of hearing "fundamental" again after the introduction 😂😂😂
hey, I'm new to the sport and i was wondering when is a good time to start swinging when the ball is in the air?
Very Very well done! Great video!
I’m 41 and just now deciding to learn baseball. I’m a natural athlete; just could never join a team or practice. I am half a step ahead of my family and want to teach true fundamentals so I greatly appreciate your teaching - means a lot to my family. I wish you all true joy as you remember this is fun.
Great instructor and advice. Thank you sir, definitely subscribing 👍⚾️.
Thank you so much! 👊🏼
Your videos have been a goldmine for me as a first time coach. If you are open to "requests", I'd love to see a video where you have a young beginner player and are working on establishing a basic swing as a starting point. I find myself struggling to get some of my players to understand even the simplest aspects of the swing, which makes it difficult to have a starting point to fine tune from. I blame myself for not being able to explain what I want from the players in terms they can understand. For example, I had a kid this week, 10 years old, who gets his feet in a square stance, but then has his shoulders turned to where he is facing the pitcher. Of course, this puts his hands way too far forward and makes a decent swing all but impossible. I tried everything I could think of, including physically putting him in the position I wanted, and he immediately goes right back to what he was doing as if he didnt hear me. He is trying his best though, so I don't want to blame him or say he isnt listening. He just isnt getting what I'm explaining. I'd love to see how more experienced coaches approach those situations, how you adjust your verbal explanations, where you choose to put most of your focus, etc. Thanks for the help!
That's a really good idea for a video. I'll try to make that happen in the future. One thing I'd try with that particular kid... I assume he's a right handed hitter... Have him get in the batter's box and tell him, "okay, I want you to pretend you're playing defense in basketball. The point guard is dribbling up the floor and he's right in front of you" (pointing near the on deck circle on the first base side). Tell him to get into an athletic position like he's about to play defense, then simply turn his head towards the pitcher. Whenever he goes back to his old ways, just quickly remind him "Play defense! The point guard is over there." Just a fun thing to try that might help!
Ultimate Baseball Training That's actually a great idea and something I didnt think to try. We practice today so I'll see how it goes. Just the idea of relating baseball to other sports will probably help a few other kids too. It seems like sometimes the more I try to teach "technique", the more mechanical and awkward some of the kids get. I have to work on balancing technical instruction with more of a "just play the game" approach I think. This coaching stuff ain't easy!
@@dfin4588 Another "trick" that has helped me put a kid's bat on the ball, was to have them imagine there is a fork, spike, knife, etc coming out of the bottom of the bat. Thier first job is to try to stab the ball with the spike. This lines the hands up with the ball and in turn lines up the bat.

Thanks for the video! Going to kill it in beer league this summer :D
I hope this is worth it, I really want to get into other sports like basketball and baseball, As A football player baseball did quite look fun last mlb season.
I really appreciate you uploading this video seeing as I'm getting interested in starting to play baseball. I got a bit confused after seeing your batting/hitting playlist and couldn't quite figure out what I should watch/focus on first. Is there a similar type of video focusing on throwing (position player, not pitching)?
Yes! I think this video will really help you out:

Really well done man! Nice Job!
Believe it or not i have come here to help me hit a golf ball better.
As a golf swing has a lot in common with a baseball swing, i find when i use the baseball type of swing when i`m playing golf i hit way longer and straighter.
Thanks for the video it has helped me in my game.
What an amazing revelation this video was. I am 72 years old and have battled a weak golf swing for a number of years now. Most of what has been explained here just makes so much sense and, to my mind (having never played baseball) it seems I can incorporate this swing and have a lot fewer swing thoughts, positions, etc., to worry about. It looks like short load, rotate and “biff”. I’m off to the garage to work on this.
@@127notout The two swings are very similar, i follow i guy called Michael Broderick on you tube and he has helped me alot.

I stopped playing baseball like 4 years ago so I needed this
Lol, same. I'm trying to get back into it and I needed some relearning.
Great stuff thanks!
Great break down!!!
Thank you so much for the help..
Another good point to make is that during the load, there should be a 10 to 15 degree spine angle toward the plate bent at waist which is what Justin has here. This creates the rotational axis that gets the bat on upward plane at a slight up angle to match the downward moving ball. If you had a straight up and down spine during load then the swing plane will be level, not up.
Great point! You must create an axis to swing around
really because you literally just said the ball is coming downward so it would only make sense to swing up because the ball isn't coming to you perfectly straight. Also everyone in the comments is ignorant. The MLB is focusing on power right now so why would you swing down or level to get the ball in the air? You swing UP to create power along with turning you upper body back to create tension and have a more explosive move to the ball you also have to have the right sequencing and separation between you hips and upper body
Well demonstrated!⚾️⚾️⚾️
Thx I just started kid pitch it this was helpful

You're welcome!
This is an excellent video! Everything is well explained. However, what is meant by "separation" as mentioned @ 8:38 and 8:54?
Great question! That just means separation from your upper and lower body. The more "separation" you can get, the more bat speed you'll be able to generate. Think about a rubber band. The further you stretch a rubber band, the more energy is built up. It's the same with hitting!
