    As someone who would love to try Baseball, but hasn’t played since Kindergarten, what would be your best advice on catching up to all the other players with more experience? What forms of practice would you recommend not involving a legitimate team so that I could practice before/ in between seasons if I get on some sort of team? As I said, I’d really like to give the game a shot, as I’ve watched for years, and I’m trying to find a sport to put time and effort into to try to get a worthwhile experience. Love the video, and I feel like it’s helping already, but I would love to hear what advice you would have for me if I wanted to work gain experience and attempt at real skill!

    • @UltimateBaseballTraining
      @UltimateBaseballTraining  5 років тому +86

      My biggest recommendation would be to just get out to the field every single day and work on improving a certain area of your game. There's lots you can do on your own so there's really no excuse. It's not going to be easy and you'll have to put in a lot of hard work, but I think in the end it'll be worth it! I recommend ironing out your swing on the tee as well as getting a friend to do soft toss, front toss, and BP with. If all else fails, take lots of swings off a tee. If you've got a partner you guys can hit each other ground balls and fly balls. If not, you can use a wall. You can also play catch and work your way out to long toss distance. Again, if no partner is there simply get a bucket of balls and throw them into a net or backstop.

This coach understand that there can be individual difference with some aspects of hitting and it’s ok. He also does a great job of teaching and keeping it simple! If your looking for a simple effective way to hit this is it! Keep up the good work coach!

    - Dance with the pitcher, keep moving
    - Load against your back, not over
    - Bat a bit over shoulder lenght
    - Front shoulder a little down, back shoulder a little up
    - Swing starts when heel drops
    - Heels drops in front and back heel rises simultaneously
    - Stay tight, stay connected for more strenght
    - Elbows must stay same distance all through the movement
    - Palm up, palm down
    - Barrel below bat

    Your videos have been a goldmine for me as a first time coach. If you are open to "requests", I'd love to see a video where you have a young beginner player and are working on establishing a basic swing as a starting point. I find myself struggling to get some of my players to understand even the simplest aspects of the swing, which makes it difficult to have a starting point to fine tune from. I blame myself for not being able to explain what I want from the players in terms they can understand. For example, I had a kid this week, 10 years old, who gets his feet in a square stance, but then has his shoulders turned to where he is facing the pitcher. Of course, this puts his hands way too far forward and makes a decent swing all but impossible. I tried everything I could think of, including physically putting him in the position I wanted, and he immediately goes right back to what he was doing as if he didnt hear me. He is trying his best though, so I don't want to blame him or say he isnt listening. He just isnt getting what I'm explaining. I'd love to see how more experienced coaches approach those situations, how you adjust your verbal explanations, where you choose to put most of your focus, etc. Thanks for the help!

    • @UltimateBaseballTraining
      @UltimateBaseballTraining  6 років тому +5

      That's a really good idea for a video. I'll try to make that happen in the future. One thing I'd try with that particular kid... I assume he's a right handed hitter... Have him get in the batter's box and tell him, "okay, I want you to pretend you're playing defense in basketball. The point guard is dribbling up the floor and he's right in front of you" (pointing near the on deck circle on the first base side). Tell him to get into an athletic position like he's about to play defense, then simply turn his head towards the pitcher. Whenever he goes back to his old ways, just quickly remind him "Play defense! The point guard is over there." Just a fun thing to try that might help!

    • @dfin4588
      @dfin4588 6 років тому +2

      Ultimate Baseball Training That's actually a great idea and something I didnt think to try. We practice today so I'll see how it goes. Just the idea of relating baseball to other sports will probably help a few other kids too. It seems like sometimes the more I try to teach "technique", the more mechanical and awkward some of the kids get. I have to work on balancing technical instruction with more of a "just play the game" approach I think. This coaching stuff ain't easy!

    • @davidprice7814
      @davidprice7814 3 роки тому

      @@dfin4588 Another "trick" that has helped me put a kid's bat on the ball, was to have them imagine there is a fork, spike, knife, etc coming out of the bottom of the bat. Thier first job is to try to stab the ball with the spike. This lines the hands up with the ball and in turn lines up the bat.

    I really appreciate you uploading this video seeing as I'm getting interested in starting to play baseball. I got a bit confused after seeing your batting/hitting playlist and couldn't quite figure out what I should watch/focus on first. Is there a similar type of video focusing on throwing (position player, not pitching)?

    Believe it or not i have come here to help me hit a golf ball better.
    As a golf swing has a lot in common with a baseball swing, i find when i use the baseball type of swing when i`m playing golf i hit way longer and straighter.
    Thanks for the video it has helped me in my game.

      What an amazing revelation this video was. I am 72 years old and have battled a weak golf swing for a number of years now. Most of what has been explained here just makes so much sense and, to my mind (having never played baseball) it seems I can incorporate this swing and have a lot fewer swing thoughts, positions, etc., to worry about. It looks like short load, rotate and “biff”. I’m off to the garage to work on this.

      @@127notout That`s great Alan, i suggest starting with his earlier videos then go through the whole series.
      He is about 62 years old and can still hit 340 with driver, in fact one of his videos he hits an 8 iron over 200 ytds.
      he has helped my game so much using his technique.

    Another good point to make is that during the load, there should be a 10 to 15 degree spine angle toward the plate bent at waist which is what Justin has here. This creates the rotational axis that gets the bat on upward plane at a slight up angle to match the downward moving ball. If you had a straight up and down spine during load then the swing plane will be level, not up.

    • @UltimateBaseballTraining
      @UltimateBaseballTraining  6 років тому +1

      Great point! You must create an axis to swing around

    • @Cooper-id1hz
      @Cooper-id1hz 6 років тому

      really because you literally just said the ball is coming downward so it would only make sense to swing up because the ball isn't coming to you perfectly straight. Also everyone in the comments is ignorant. The MLB is focusing on power right now so why would you swing down or level to get the ball in the air? You swing UP to create power along with turning you upper body back to create tension and have a more explosive move to the ball you also have to have the right sequencing and separation between you hips and upper body

    This is an excellent video! Everything is well explained. However, what is meant by "separation" as mentioned @ 8:38 and 8:54?

    • @UltimateBaseballTraining
      @UltimateBaseballTraining  6 років тому +5

      Great question! That just means separation from your upper and lower body. The more "separation" you can get, the more bat speed you'll be able to generate. Think about a rubber band. The further you stretch a rubber band, the more energy is built up. It's the same with hitting!
