  • Most of my gardening is in containers because the ground in my yard is so hard. For more information on how you can grow vegetables even if your space is limited, look at my article "Four Ways to Grow Vegetables Without a Yard." preservingswee... I so miss having a garden. We moved in 2019 to a place where the entire back yard only gets 3 hours of sun. Nothing will grow. We tried a couple of years. The only thing we could do is plant cherry tomatoes on the front porch with some herbs..

Hey, knothead35! That's too bad. When you are used to gardening, it's hard to have to quit. Even though I love my house and yard, just one little area in the backyard gets full sun and less than half the front yard. But I'm thankful for what I do have. The trees surrounding the yard are beautiful and include a couple of persimmons, at least 2 hickory nuts, and a mulberry. I just picked my first "crop" yesterday from the little garden. I got enough lettuce to make one salad, 1 cucumber, and 1 zucchini. Not a big haul, but tasty all the same. Have a great weekend!

@terrymartinez5186 I will try the tubs from Dollar Tree. It sounds like a good idea. I do have a little lettuce growing in a flower pot, and I've been harvesting a few leaves at a time. It's usually enough to make a small salad for myself. And I hope the few greens that I had come up in the kiddie pool make at least enough for a few meals. I love any kind of fresh greens. What all do you have growing?
