  • Santa has arrived into the FGG's Headquarters tonight and sent me this beauty. Here's what he said in a message:
"Dear fellow subscribers. Here is the last video of the ITV's goal compilation. The last season before the Football League became that massive juggernaut called The FA Premier League. And with it, the end of this long series with thousands and thousands of goals."

Great seeing these old highlights. Also, some featured players already since departed: Gary Speed, Dalian Atkinson, Gary Ablett, Justin Edinburgh, Cyril Regis, David Rocastle RIP.

Hannibal Barca Alan sugar should take some of the blame as well because he was the one who told murdoch to blow ITV out of the water with the bidding for the premier league tv rights. Nothing to do with the fact that he made the dishes that the tv coverage would be shown through.......

With the exception of Manchester United v Liverpool (networked LIVE!) many regions dropped their weekend football highlights shows (with the exception of the Saturday Teatime Goals Extra programmes on Granada and Central) between October and November 1991 due to Rugby World Cup coverage hence no UK shown games between 5 Oct and 3 Nov

I remember Granada opted out of the Arsenal-Benfica second leg and broadcast the Man Utd v Atletico game live. I don't think Leeds v Man Utd in the league cup was networked either, pretty sure Central didn't show it and I had to mess with the aerial to watch it on Granada.
