Dire Dire Docks - Super Mario 64 DS - Deconstruction with Oscilloscopes

- This video deconstructs the Dire Dire Docks/Jolly Roger Bay theme from Super Mario 64 DS in the form of oscilloscopes, notes, and separated sounds to get a better understanding of what is included in this song.
Original track is composed by Koji Kondo.
A couple of people commented wishing the audio quality was better in the last SM64 DS video. Sadly, because I don't really know how to deconstruct the actual N64 version, the DS audio is gonna be a little worse. Nonetheless, I hope you still enjoy the video, and I really do appreciate you guys watching.
I have original tracks too! Most of them are chiptune:

If you want to make a video like this on your own, hopefully these steps can help out:
1. I used vgmtrans to extract each song from the rom
2. Exported the songs into the highly compatible midi format with sf2
3. Deconstructed the channels to my liking in a generic music software and exported each one into a streamed sort of file (mp3, wav, etc.)
4. Put each file into SidWizPlus which does all the oscilloscope work. If SidWizPlus doesn't work that well I've heard of Corrscope but haven't given it a try. It may take some time to render.
Hope this helps, if you have any questions I'll try my best to answer them
Does it matter what format the file is? Like if it's wav or whatever there still is?
@@LuigiStory4740 for SidWizPlus, Yes. It accepts quite a bit of VGM formats, but iirc it only accepts the .wav as an audio file
how do you get the ds instruments to use for midi playback? is that something vgmtrans can do?
@noraaaaaaa yes, it can! You can actually just put a DS Rom in VGMTrans and it’ll automatically get all the sequences and soundbank and save it as MIDI and SF2 file (or DLS)
thank you! that’s really awesome. i’m planning on getting a dirtywave m8 and this would be an awesome way to build up a soundbank
The strings at 1:52 have always screamed star fox 64 vibes to me
He came back when we needed him the most welcome back coach ❤️😤👍🏿
I love these videos so much
next deconstruction in 5-7 months if nothing changes
still very cool
Good to see you back!
Love these videos, dunno if you take suggestions but id love to see airship fortress
Nostalgic
fyi, the raw m64 sequence files are available after extraction with the PC port, and those can be converted to MIDI with a utility
but all the samples are raw audio files, so you'd have to create your own SF2
banger
i am in love with these types of videos and am interested in music deconstruction in general and wanted to try some things out but im completely stumped by how bad vgmtrans is, took 30 mins to even find the download button on the website and it wouldn't even work on any roms i have which is massively dissapointing
Can you make a tutorial on how this is all done and set it up thay would be really cool
How does channel 6 play multiple notes in one wavelength?
I was wondering the same thing, I guess the capability was there for the N64 and the DS
the ds supports polyphony per channel, since the format is similar to midi
y did u disappear
1. Busy with school
2. I have less of a passion for this kind of content and have taken more time in doing original music
There's always the possibility I'll make more videos for this channel in the future though!
ok :)
