Well it depends who you are. Navigating and installing the good user made content is not all that convenient, and I would guess the majority of players wont do it. If you limit it to official content, its not all that good. The best of Hordes of the Underdark is quite good, but I couldnt honestly recommend this game - with its dated production values and control of only a single character - to someone on that basis. And persuading people to try the user made stuff and jump through the necessary hoops to do so is a tough sell. I havent seen much of it to be honest, though I would say the Aielund Saga is a well rounded campaign that stands as a respectable full length RPG on its own. There is probably some other great stuff out there too. But at the same time, you could just be playing Wrath of the Righteous or Pillars of Eternity 2 with far less hassle.
It's amazing to me that the flexibility and the clean UI of NWN has never been duplicated in more modern games. The closest I've seen to date is Solasta and I really hope that Tactical Adventures furthers the capabilities of the dungeon builder.
Solasta gets closer to how unique NWN was with user-gen content than all the other modern rpgs I've played. Especially with it still being in development, I think it has a serious case for becoming the "new" NWN.
It probably will go on a shortlist. Its insane to me that not a single person on an entire development team kept the source code. Just boggles the mind.
I once had contact with, I think it was Rob Bartel, thats hsi name? And managed to get Witch's Wakes story down in text to work with, building a module. I was in over my head. I had 0 experience. But it was interesting. I think it was meant to have 4-6 parts.
Sorry for the late upload, had some trouble exporting this one over the past day. Also voice is a bit rough in this one. Not sure why. Time to take up drinking tea, I guess.
I only discovered Neverwinter a couple months ago and boy was I disappointed with myself for sleeping on this gem so long. I have only played the first couple parts of the og campaigns I almost immediately installed the prc mod so I could make what I consider a very interesting build I have been playing in a 3.5 tabletop campaign. This character came about because my best was complaining about the strength of his monk and I joked that a fighter could do a monk better. 5 levels of fighter and you can get the superior improved unarmed fighting that gives a character the unarmed damage of a monk. I also took levels of sorcerer and rogue to bump up my save and skill points. Also, shocking grasp with unarmed strike damage is awesome. The only thing homebrewed is a feat that allows him to use unarmed strike the same round as part of casting touch spells which sadly isn't in Never winter nights even with that awesome mod.
What I did like were the companions, those were the highlight for me, not only because they broke the usual standard race henchmen trope but also because they made them truly exotic and original, but other than that, the INSTANT you find out the final villain is a >!mindflyer!< and that it is >!YOUR BROTHER!< that was it for me. High Fantasy or no high fantasy, that fact broke my suspension of disbelief so hard I could barely bring myself to finish the mod. I did, only to get over it, but man... And there's no explanation as to why that is either. >!Was he your humanoid brother who got converted via tadpole? Yeah, he's no longer your brother, I'm afraid.!
What a great video! I think I’ll reinstall NWN and give this module a go, since I've always kinda ignored these smaller modules not knowing if they were worthy of my time I don't know if you're gonna make a video on Darkness over Daggerford but I'd be interested in seeing it, since I really liked it and think it's deserving of at least some attention. Keep up the great work!
I played Neverwinter long long before I was a real fan of DnD. I’m very tempted to go back and try again since I’ve been rolling dice and adventuring for about a year now.
Great video. I also was impressed by Kingmaker, but then I discovered community modules and there is much better and varied content there. As other commenters have mentioned there's a lack of quality neverwinter nights content on youtube. If you did reviews of community modules, which imo are the most interesting part of neverwinter nights single player, you'd have my upvote :D
Thanks for the interesting video. I really loved NWN back in the day, and have tried to get back into the enhanced edition from time to time. I'll have to check out this module someday; the premise sounds pretty interesting.
...I still play on nwn, I'll admit it. Mostly persistent worlds, but I occasionally go and play the second and third campaign. The first, as he mentions is rather bland.
@@tylerwellman8252 Why NWN still gets updates and polish plus new premium models. It does the D&D ruleset best out of all the other rpg's set in the D&D verse
I was excited to see where Neverwinter Nights could go after NWN 2. Game was a lot of fun. Played the original through a lot of its expansions and NWN 2 and Mask of the Betrayer. Wish they would have made a new single player/co-op rpg instead of the Neverwinter MMO we got.
@@fandraxx Same but i thought that them having the rights or licenses for the mmo kept anyone else from making a new single player/co-op game based on Neverwinter. Could be wrong on that.
it was kinda disappointing how fast this module ends. i don't get why they give you a bunch of good items after the last fight and then its over. whats the point
Some of us don’t care about the queen. I didn’t even know her name. I don’t follow politicians from my own country, never mind those across the pond. Don’t sweat it buddy!
True story: I started a let's play of Wyvern. About three episodes in the jousting mechanic broke the game for me and I couldn't figure out any way to fix it, so I switched to playing through Pirates of the Swordcoast.
People always be hating on the original story not sure really completely why. It was memorable for me. Still remember a bunch of characters and zones I went through. Granted yea Shadows and Underdark were better due to added mechanics and the heart of gold Kobold Deekin. Still, I play the original campaign when I get the itch every four years or so when I play again.
I will say that Witch's Wake had some great world building for the time that it had, but the incomplete nature of its story greatly limits the overall experience from the player perspective.
I always wanted to play this module, but I honestly can't play this game without the PRC mod anymore and sadly, you can't install PRC in this module. If someone knows a way, I'll be thankful.
I've never played with PRC, but there seems to be some info about PRC with the modules, here. neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/prcified-premium-modules
I love neverwinter nights but I cannot for the life of me get it to run smooth on my computer, I have changed settings in nvidia control/ changed pc settings, etc. I just can't get the game to run smoothly and it stutters so much that its unplayable.
I found my game ran quite a bit better after I turned off a lot of the post-processing effects (Anti-aliasing, Depth of View, dithering, that sort of thing). No idea if that would solve it for you, but it might be worth a try. There's probably some forum posts out there that you can check, as well. I remember people reporting some performance issues when the game launched.
I've heard of other older games running at too high FPS so limiting the FPS in the game sometimes helps. You can limit the FPS in Nvidia control panel if you have an Nvidia card.
Do you maybe have any idea how to play this game without constant crashes and savegames deciding to commit suicide ? Maybe its GoG version fault? I made it to the docks and even leveled to 6, after that game crashed and all my saves were broken. New game, again..
I haven't heard of any of these issues (and didn't experience them myself), sorry. I would check the either the GOG or Beamdog forums to see if anyone else has.
Log the time of the crash, look at event viewer in windows under the errors tab, find the error that happened at that time, Google the error code to see what exactly happened, then google a fix for what it says about that error.
One of the best games ever. Even after 20 years I still play it and enjoy the atmosphere in it, which is imho, perfect for a d&d game.
Neverwinter Nights simply belongs in a gaming collection.
Period

Agreed. Neverwinter Nights is just a joy to navigate, as much as I'll always be a fan of the old infinity engine screen-based style.
Solasta gets closer to how unique NWN was with user-gen content than all the other modern rpgs I've played. Especially with it still being in development, I think it has a serious case for becoming the "new" NWN.
The intro 😢 I felt that.. 😅 and please make a video about the IWD 2 source code, it’s fascinating how such things can be lost forever..
It probably will go on a shortlist. Its insane to me that not a single person on an entire development team kept the source code. Just boggles the mind.

There is a severe lack of NWN content on youtube, and you seem to be a good reviewer. I hope that you cover it more.
Thank you!
I love this game. Best of all in d&d and the new Neverwinter mmo can't even compete.

That's awesome! NWN2 is gonna get a video at some point.

NWN Is one of my favortie RPGS
RPGing at its best. One of my all-time favorites.
I played on persistent worlds exclusively back in the day. Even with all the bugs it was well worth playing with players all over the world.
...I still play on nwn, I'll admit it. Mostly persistent worlds, but I occasionally go and play the second and third campaign. The first, as he mentions is rather bland.
PWs is what will always set this game apart from any other like it. They put NWN on another level other games like it have yet to replicate.

Maybe, from the sounds of it, because I tried the Wailing Death.
We need a Nordock PW retrospective

What is "the Queen at the royal palace"?
Assuming you've played it, how does it measure up to the Aielund Saga?
Both are good, but incredibly different. Aielund is a large, branching tale while Kingmaker is reserved to just a few hours.
That part about the queen 😂
