  • We have been using this tractor for logging for decades. It is a Massey Ferguson MF 30 MF 34 from the 70s. it has a Farmi 501 tractor winch. The winch is mounted to the 3 point hitch in the back. it runs off the tractor’s PTO. The homemade log forks in the front replaced the bucket that used to be on the tractor. This tractor was Massey Ferguson’s industrial models that was originally a backhoe.

Great topic! We use agriculture tractors on the Farm to Yard, but only when I can get access. They are tools of the Farm first, Skidders second.

Thanks for sharing details about your tractor and winch. I’m nearly 73 and get out in my woods nearly every day with chainsaw in hand. Life is good!

Putting a grapple on my tractor was the best thing I ever did with it. Love the bark removal trick.

Someday when I decide to get one too, I’ll probably be saying the same thing.

I love your tractor 😍, it's a dinosaur like me.
I am a 1969 human, so probably a day or two older than yourself 😂 lol.
Your videos are awesome, oh ya, I did tell Nathan about your channel.
I talk with him often, he bought the Woodmizer mp260 after he saw my post four years ago, supper good guy!

I’m not sure exactly what year my tractor is but I am suspicious it’s 1973 or 1974. It’s about the same age as me. All the equipment mechanics I have talked to tell me don’t buy a new one, just keep using this one.
Are you talking about THE Nathan in Tennessee?

That old tractor still gets the job done. It's a very nice sit up plus it doesn't cost much to sit one up

Great old machine, better than any new machine and last longer.
A work horse. Now that trick you just showed, that will get you in real trouble if you don’t watch out.
I did it in one video and ended up with a $30,000 bill. 😂😂😂
    Great video

Good video. I'd love to have a nice skidding winch.

Thanks Dave, if I ever win a big lottery, I’ll buy you a skidding winch. Since I don’t play the lottery, it might be a while though.

The grapple on a tractor is nice for grabbing logs! But, I've gotten carried away clearing brush and slash and have done some cosmetic damage to the front of my tractor. Oh well, I'm young, live n' learn.

Oh yeah, it's also a Massey Ferguson. Anyway, the winch is really cool especially that it was your grandpa's!

It would be hard to beat those industrial tractors, you have to teach me the debarking technique. Take care.

I may have to start a course and start teaching that debarking technique.

The stubs at the "T" were for cable guide and retainer they were threaded to lock cable down with a clip and nut on top ....and nope I wasn't there when fabricated... just some backwards engineering I picked up working on alien technology....

I have the exact same tractor. You mentioned that the forks were 17” from the gusset. I’m wondering if you you have the time to send me the dimensions/measurement’s of the fork unit as I’d like to try to weld something like that up for use around my little log yard operation?
I truly enjoy watching your episodes.

Would it be helpful if I did a walk around video doing measurements? I have had other people interested in those forks, maybe that would be helpful to others too.

@@WilsonForestLands I think that would be of great benefit to all of us who still struggle with a bucket, chains and slings to move these logs around. What do you feel is the biggest/ heaviest log that you’ve moved with those forks on your MF30?
