Imagine this. GTA IV with RDRII graphics, with a more modern and detailed NYC and with domestic and wild animals. That'd be the best game ever, even better than GTA V.
Then they'd have to create the New York (Liberty) state like Rockstar had it originally in mind. It would work out very well for sure; hopefully in a future Liberty City setting. I believe GTA IV's story benefitted much from the exodus of East Germans/Yugoslavia War context, and to create something like that in current political scenario is very difficult. Rockstar pulled off something which couldn't fit in any other post-Arab Spring world and it did very successfully.
As for someone who's played and beat both gta iv and gta v I felt the fourth one just had a way better story and I loves liberty city and the amazing sound track don't get me wrong gta v was fun and has an awesome world, soundtrack animals ( which I personally really liked) and the amazing detail to graphics that rockstar is very known for but it seriously lacked in the characters I felt they didn't have the impact that nicko or roman, and little Jacob made and also honestly gta v doesn't really have too many options to customize your vehicles when compared to saints row2 and there really wasn't many clothing options if your just playing as one character and don't want to switch and last but not least I reaaaallly hate that rockstar tried forcing us to download an app for your phone to train chops when it could of easily been implanted in the game

GTA 3 is a lot darker than people think it is, I agree.. But it's still no where near as dark as GTA 4. Eddie Low's missions alone are 100 percent proof of that. Look them up.
The story in GTA 4 felt much deeper than that of GTA 5 but really after you beat the story there's literally nothing to do in the game and nothing to do with your money but I really liked the fact you were able to go into the burger shot don't know why they took it out for GTA 5.

The physics in 4 are way beyond than what many games today put out. Even to this day top end processors have difficulty maintaining its complex physics model. This is the reason why vehicle handling became flat, almost like there's no suspension. Same with character models who react less to your contact. In addition car damage was severely reduced and object contact movement was also lessened. A lot of downgrades. GTA4 after san andreas was really a next gen game. Moving in the world was so griddy and realistic In addition to this realism the dark and depressing atmosphere of what daily life in New York is is absolutely shocking, and this comes from someone who lived in NY for almost 20 years. It looked completely different and absolutely surreal back in 2008. GTA5 is no where near this leap that GTA4 made, and arguably took several steps back.
Bryan Smith Certainly not in the story department i'll tell you that. It was cool for a one time ago, and I really like the characters but I honestly have no desire to ever play the story mode again. Alot of boring and slow missions as well.
GTA 5 looks badass, but its downfall in my opinion is the story. Since they had to divide a 30-40hr game into 3 to fit the characters, there was no character build up hence you ended up not caring too much about them. I wish there was more time to play as each character and that their story would start earlier to see why they ended up crossing paths. Instead, I felt like I skipped 40mins of a movie to where the real action starts, so it feels incomplete. That is why I love San Andreas because I got to see CJ's beginnings and also with Niko I got to see his "fresh start" in NYC spread throughout a 35 hour game.

i seriously disagree when i hear people say san andreas was the best, im sure it was good. but this game had fixed everything from SA and did it perfectly. shooting, cover, driving, animations, graphics, characters were all better in this game then in SA. gta4 is one of the best games ever made and possibly my favourite. and dont let me ramble on about gta5, when technically, it is the best gta. but i prefere the story and characters of gta4.

Knees to the body, low blows, roundhouse kicks, devastating baseball bat to the head, stabs to the body - Niko had it all. GTA 5 has very few combat animations, even between all 3 characters, while GTA 4 has a lot for 1 character. GTA 4 wins.
When GTA IV first came out, it was panned by the general fanbase because they think San Andreas was better. Now that GTA V came out, the exact same is happening with it and GTA IV. People give this game shit just because it's not as "fun" to some people as San Andreas and GTA 5. The main story of this game was great and I can play this game 6 years after its release and still have fun beating the story mode (and I've beat the story at least 10 times).

GTA 3 is a lot darker than people think it is, I agree.. But it's still no where near as dark as GTA 4. Eddie Low's missions alone are 100 percent proof of that. Look them up.

The story in GTA 4 felt much deeper than that of GTA 5 but really after you beat the story there's literally nothing to do in the game and nothing to do with your money but I really liked the fact you were able to go into the burger shot don't know why they took it out for GTA 5.

The physics in 4 are way beyond than what many games today put out. Even to this day top end processors have difficulty maintaining its complex physics model. This is the reason why vehicle handling became flat, almost like there's no suspension. Same with character models who react less to your contact. In addition car damage was severely reduced and object contact movement was also lessened. A lot of downgrades. GTA4 after san andreas was really a next gen game. Moving in the world was so griddy and realistic In addition to this realism the dark and depressing atmosphere of what daily life in New York is is absolutely shocking, and this comes from someone who lived in NY for almost 20 years. It looked completely different and absolutely surreal back in 2008. GTA5 is no where near this leap that GTA4 made, and arguably took several steps back.

This video was the reason I bought a 360 and gta4 back in 2008.
GTA 5 looks badass, but its downfall in my opinion is the story. Since they had to divide a 30-40hr game into 3 to fit the characters, there was no character build up hence you ended up not caring too much about them. I wish there was more time to play as each character and that their story would start earlier to see why they ended up crossing paths. Instead, I felt like I skipped 40mins of a movie to where the real action starts, so it feels incomplete. That is why I love San Andreas because I got to see CJ's beginnings and also with Niko I got to see his "fresh start" in NYC spread throughout a 35 hour game.

Its crazy to look at this and compare this to GTA V and see how far we came in pushing the Xbox 360 and PS3 to their limits. It's like looking at GTA 3 and seeing how much further they got with pushing the graphics limits with GTA San Andreas on the PS2

i seriously disagree when i hear people say san andreas was the best, im sure it was good. but this game had fixed everything from SA and did it perfectly. shooting, cover, driving, animations, graphics, characters were all better in this game then in SA. gta4 is one of the best games ever made and possibly my favourite. and dont let me ramble on about gta5, when technically, it is the best gta. but i prefere the story and characters of gta4.

Knees to the body, low blows, roundhouse kicks, devastating baseball bat to the head, stabs to the body - Niko had it all. GTA 5 has very few combat animations, even between all 3 characters, while GTA 4 has a lot for 1 character. GTA 4 wins.
When GTA IV first came out, it was panned by the general fanbase because they think San Andreas was better. Now that GTA V came out, the exact same is happening with it and GTA IV. I have a feeling that when GTA VI comes out, I will read a lot of "I liked GTA V more than this." comments. The more games that come out in this series, the bigger hypocrites you guys would look.

I'll never forget looking at this review with kayne playing back in 08. This game is often forgotten about, but it holds up as one of the best gta games
It's aged extremely well especially if your on PC
People give this game shit just because it's not as "fun" to some people as San Andreas and GTA 5. The main story of this game was great and I can play this game 6 years after its release and still have fun beating the story mode (and I've beat the story at least 10 times).
