Best feeling the first time playing: Getting inside a building by just walking through a door... man, that feeling...
Yeah there are quite a few if you know the spots
yooo that was wild especially going through cluckin bell or burger shot
My first wow moment was real time shadows while driving through the docks in intro mission
It was Like AWWWW MAN
It was like a dream, and I was shocked by the game's new mechanics. and the beauty of LC (NYC), night lighting. explosions, weapons, aiming, weather... I fell in love with GTA4 to this day. Rockstar knew how to capture NYC's vibe. LORD ALMIGHTY ROCKSTAR.
Gta 4 was so ahead of its time, even if they release it on 2021 with slightly polished graphics like we seen with mods I would've believed it as new games. The mechanics, the physics, the feel about the game.... Can't believe this game was out back in 2008

Still a better rpg than shittypunk 2077
Cyber punk is not GTA , Mafia series is not GTA .. the watch dog series is not GTA. Stop asking those games to be GTA
GTA 4 have really dark humor, and nailed the New York Life, which make remind me why I hate game set in this type of city
omg it's tara arts XD. i knew you loved this game so much
The way that cops would continue to pull the trigger while going down after you shot them was wild!!!
I got wasted by one going down once Pedestrians would get hit as well.
Yeah and the way they took the hit how they always went into euhporia physics dolls. Also if they dropped the gun and it would shoot was/still is an interesting mechanism they should def bring back if gta 6 ever comes out.
Brooo yes there was this one area that has like a small parking lot. Block the alley with a car blow it up and you could survive hours, the bodies and exploded vehicles will pile up, loved seeing the chubby cops tumbling over while wincing in pain calling for more back up
and when they would talk and still try to get up and leave after emptying a clip it’s definitely rock starts 2nd most realistic game behind rdr2
I hid behind a cover and surprised a cop, who got startled and stumbled backwards. Never thought I'd see.
I loved this game so much. So gritty and dark compared to other gta titles. The driving and combat felt real. Amazing game for its time.
“War is where the old and bitter trick the young and stupid into killing each other.”
- Niko Bellic
No no. He's got a point
As someone coming from the same part of Europe as him, I can confirm that they also "tricked" many older guys into killing their friends, neighbours and sometimes even relatives, most of them unarmed civilians. People from the Balkans have to be some of the dumbest and most evil ones in the whole world.

I've played almost every GTA, and none of them, in my humble opinion, hold up to GTA IV. This game will always hold a special place in my heart.

What about SA and VC
Let's talk about that soundtrack. My goodness, you get a buffet of whatever you wanted - that Chet Baker jazz, Don Omar reggaeton, Kanye and Nas on the mix, some Bad Brains and AC/DC, Black Devil Disco Club, Lonnie Liston Smith groove, Bob Marley, Isley Brothers, so much more. Finely crafted music. One of Rockstars best productions to date.
Truly whatever you wanted. And it all somehow perfectly fit the setting and story
I appreciate all the gta soundtracks and how well they've fit each game but 9 times out of 10 I'm always listening to the ridiculously hilarious talk shows. That shit has me in tears. Lazlow going around the city live on his show arguing with hot dog vendors. The funniest shit ever.
To be honest, in GTA IV, I was always listening to Vladivostok fm. The fact that there are Eastern European songs in a GTA is pretty unique, and that's something that we only see in GTA IV. Also, there are some real bangers on that radio.
I loved the talkshow on “We know the truth” along with the courtroom radio lol. That shit was hilarious and so underrated.
@@l3v166 like The Invasion
I love how realistic the combat was. You could choose to actually let someone live. The whole game was about life choices and their repercussions
I personally liked the driving physics in gta 4. The cars felt like they had actual weight behind them.
If you knew how to handle them cruising / chasing around the city was satisfying af
I think this a common perspective
Yea, I love the varied feel of the cars and how they sway and swing and curb and have inertion and so forth. - Including the fact that Niko could just blast through the windshield would you hit something head-on. - I would even mess with an editor to tweak cars to "realistic" speeds and weights even more. Which took forever, I felt more like a developer because it's such a task, but I don't know, I enjoyed it because it was capable of doing that. - I would also throw in things like a "seatbelt"-mod, a mod that would damage your health when hitting things with a car at a certain speed, a "gasoline"-mod, dis-allow poles to be just detached from the ground, a "traffic rules" mod that would have police respond to speeding and running red lights, and more stuff, so that it would actually feel like you'd have to be more careful while driving, rather than just going crazy like a videogame-maniac. - I mean, it might sound lame and tedious, but cause and effect is what creates gameplay. - I know most people just want to go nuts and blow everything up in God MOde, but you can do that too... If I want to do that I'll play "Just Cause" or something.
@@michaelmonstar4276 oh man, I'd love to replay gta4 again with those mods, I'm not sure how I'd get them to work on a ps3 tho coz I'm guessing those are for pc xD

Let's hope they don't give it to eardrum studios or we will have a GTA Sims 4
How about don't mess with don't fix whats not broken.
Having realistic car physics, vs fun car physics. Dont bring up BS realism here, GTA 5 was much more fun
This game is dark and gritty you don't get a happy ending you get a ending for a man who got revenge and his victory is hollow
Exactly. Dark, oryginal GTA III style but in HD universe. Loved this vide, quite overwhelming after a while though.
I’ve really wanted gta 5 to bring in some of those similar elements from gta 4 and that gritty feeling is what gave this game its engaging atmosphere and it being dark as shit really nails just exactly how mature this type of game should be
Mannnn 'gta 4' was the 3D 'gta 3' we wanted.. I thought 'gta 5' was gonna be the HD version of San Andreas. 😒
Like 3 with Claude!
@@NoMoreLies365 I mean... GTA V sort of is the HD version of San Andreas. After CJ gets kicked out of Los Santos he practically turns into a government agent and does these batshit crazy missions like robbing the military, breaking into Area 51 to steal a jetpack, jumping out of the back of cargo jets. GTA V/San Andreas are both really actiony hollywood-esque games.
Not trying to be that guy, but 4 has always been my favorite. The game feels so gritty and more realistic than all the others, and the story was the best in my opinion as well.

Honestly the only thing I've changed with mods to this day is just updating graphics and making it more colorful in the right ways, aka less brown filtered but still dark
I seem to be one of the few people who think that while the story was the best story GTA ever had, it didn´t fit the game so well... I mean you play as a guy who just came out of a war and is sick and tired of killing people while at the same time you just become a sociopatic maniac in free roam. OBVIOUSLY you need to have that ability in GTA but it really conflicts with the story that´s being told.
Absolutely agree
It's always been my favorite too. The physics blew my mind then, and it still does today.
I know we will never get a story like this again I just hope we get the physics back.

GTA V was the age of 8 year old kids buying this game only for road rage and the Vanilla Unicorn, GTA IV however was way better, ask anyone but an 8 year old and they may say Grand Theft Auto 4 is the best GTA game
THE FIGHTING was amazing in this game, the fact people stayed on the door handle if you drove off 🤣, the shimmying on ledges, it felt so real, even getting other people arrested

I really love the driving in gta 4 theres a big learning curve but once you get the corners down and how the weight gets thrown around then the driving becomes really fun and makes gta v feel more arcade like
GTA 4 is definitely my favorite. Just the core game alone. I wanted to hear every conversation. Getting friends and GF's drunk. Drunk driving them home sometimes killing them or us. Then the drive of shame picking them up at the hospital. Just some of the craziest single player moments. I really loved the world and cast. Pool with jacob, strip club with brucie or roman. The dates. Even the emails. I would read them all. It was just really hitting everything. I remember when the DLC's dropped and it was so exciting, it was like getting a new GTA. GTAv's world was fantastic but it felt pretty hollow character wise in comparison. Also The driving in 4 was really fun after the learning curve. They need a middle ground between IV and V for driving. I definitely understand why people do not like 4's driving. But 5's is just to much. Also I do not get why they toned down the physics. Man 4 had the most fun physics.

I loved GTA 4. Probably my favourite. It’s the one in the series I replayed the most. It was the most immersive game I had played since Shenmue where I felt like I was actually in New York. I used the subway, did the activities with Niko’s friends, took Niko on dates. Loved it. Loved the music, the AI and physics which were better than those found in GTA5 in my opinion, good example being how police and pedestrians react to you as the player. Cops will open fire on you in GTA5 just for looking at them for too long or standing too close and pedestrians will die with one punch😂. In GTA4 police shoot as a last resort and pedestrians actually fight back and will in some cases run away, either way they didn’t die after one punch or a push to the ground.
my favorite thing about gta 4 was how realistic the driving felt. The cars felt like they had real weight and traction, something later games took away. I imagine it got complained about a lot, but me and my brother were both getting our license shortly after playing gta 4 and both attribute a lot of our ease to it to this game. GTA 4 truly taught me how to drive not even lying. I do also love the look of the city, and there is still a lot to be discovered in liberty city. I went back and played it recently and found stuff i never knew about. I wish they would port it to the nintendo switch. what a perfect place for this game that would be.

I preferred GTA 4 to 5, not only because of the story, but also the feel and the setting. And the motorcycles in GTA 4 behave more like a motorcycle should compared to GTA 5, that always bugged me as a biker myself
A small but noticeable detail was the fact that if it rained, Niko actually reacted to it. He would hold his hand out to feel if it was raining. He would shake himself off if he got too wet. You could also see his breath during the cold spells.
One thing I didn't like was the fact that you couldn't take Niko to the bathroom to bathe (the scurvy bastard Lol. Jk)
I also liked how you could be whoever you wanted to be....
From a Taxi Driver, to a homicidal maniac, to stopping by Perseus for an all black suit; spawn a FIB Buffalo; and become a tough-as-nails LCPD detective to whom cleans up the mean streets.
So immersive is GTAIV, that it always holds a special place in my heart. Worth its weight in gold. Except for those immersive-breaking annoying friend requests. Especially in inopportune situations....

**Literally one of the most highly rated games of all time**
Exactly. And probably a favorite of most people. A bit detached from reality.
It's not brought up very often when discussing GTA these days, at least not since V came out. There's plenty of gushing over III for reinventing the open world genre, Vice City and especially San Andreas for childhood nostalgia, and V as the current game that's still actively supported by Rockstar. IV also gets a lot of shit by certain fans who think it takes itself too seriously which goes against their perception of what GTA is, and that playing a character who ultimately wants to do good conflicts with their capacity to go on crazy murder rampages.
That said I think that's set to change very soon once more people remember just how great a game it was.

@OGSTICKYICKY controls were definitely a bit clunky though
Simulators would like to introduce themselves
The physics are way more realistic than 5s

Remember the feeleng when I played this game for the first time. Couldn't beleve how good and realistic it looked.
I personally didn't think it was underrated. I remember being blown away by how amazing it looked on 360. The 1st gta on those current gen consoles. Nico was an absolute beast. After I took control of Nico and you could feel the weight of him and the cars when you moved or were driving compared to how floaty everything felt in the previous games I was just in awe. I still play through it every few years.
Best setting and time period: Vice City
Best and most diverse missions: San Andreas
Best story, vibe, and protagonist: GTA 4
Best gameplay and graphics: GTA 5
Hmm... he doesn't lie.
Gameplay in GTA IV still a contender for it's time though.
I can respect this.
Agree with all of this. Vice City is a contender for my favourite for the soundtrack alone.
For full experience, buy them all.
GTA 4 has better gameplay than GTA V
This video gave me more appreciation for GTA IV than I already have not to mention a little crossovers they had with each other throughout different parts of the story in their own way
Fantastic video and commentary, from a fellow New Yorker and gta IV Stan
I swear i had more fun playing gta 4 than 5. I never knew why, i just played it alot more than 5
Me too. IV has a better story, but that's just an opinion. Mostly, the physics of cars and npcs where better. The police is also better in its own way, the gunplay is better imo also. GTAV made some improvements, but it's a step back on the "fun aspect" of GTA. It's difficult to explain, I guess...
In many ways 5 is to 4 what LA is to New York. It’s bright, it’s polished, it’s attractive but doesn’t have heart. GTA 4 was dirty, hard and was an incredible step up from the previous PS2 era. GTA5 felt like a step back, I also feel 5 was just much more mainstream, the audience was much younger and less die hard. That’s my opinion anyway.
I agree 4 is just the best for everything overall 5 improved somethings but 4 better overall
Maybe I know the physics is fun the car damage is awesome and other stuff
I feel it's mainly because of the rhythm, imo 5 has screwed it by making the map too big but haven't adjusted quests accordingly, in fact they remove the more relaxing part of the game make it even worse to me.
One of my favorite things about GTA IV was getting lost in the internet in those internet cafe's. They had some bizarre and interesting reads within the websites they created within game
იუჯინ
Vice City stories is definitely the most underrated. Practically no one has even heard of that game or knows it existed. And it slapped
That the one were you played as the military guy?? Imo SA was better than all the older gta games.
I always loved walking around drunk with Roman, goated physics engine
“I’m the one who survived”. Still love that line
Iconic game ❤️
Sounds a lot like Breaking Bad.

@@twentytwoedits2442 What?
I remember playing it when it came out for the first time in middle school and man... coming from San Andreas graphics to gta iv felt truly next gen. Easily dumped hundreds if not thousands of hours of my childhood into this game either playing it or modding it. Thank you R* for going out on a limb and giving us this masterpiece.
I remember playing it on potato laptop, it used to run for like 10-20 mins and then crash ._. it was a fun game.
Your welcome for getting the likes to 69. Let's keep it that way :>
Love GTA 4... My favorite hands down and might even be my favorite game ever. I've never beat any of the GTA s before that but then I beat this one 5 or 6 times. Love the story and love the setting. As an "immigrant" myself that moved to NY by myself and lived there alone for a bit, this definitely has a special spot in my gaming experience.
i remember this came out. it got rave reviews similar to GTA V. IGN for example scored it as a 10. However, for some reason a lot of people didnt like it. it wasnt like San Andreas was the usual gripe. i could never understand it as its a masterpiece. i spent the bones of 2 years playing this between the single -player, online multiplayer and expansions and its funny how you mentioned that it is so similar to New York. i visited New York for the first time in 2018 and my memories of liberty city helped me so much to find my way around the city lol and visiting certain areas almost felt like i had been there before. I include this on my list of all time favourite video games.
This one to me had the best story and characters. The only GTA that by the end I actually cared about the characters.
Yeah I couldn’t give two shits about 90% of San Andreas characters/story and especially Franklin in GTA5 complete waste of potential nobody wants to live the hood life I’m sorry but that’s not what I buy these games for. I buy them to be the biggest in town the richest, the baddest whatever I want to do and be. Not some kid making it out of the hood killing people that’s the opposite of what I want.
@@SubZyYT you do you fam but GTA San Andreas had one of the better stories in the GTA games and it's what sold the game overall. In GTA 5, Franklin was wasted and could have had more missions with Lamar as a nod to San Andreas but they didn't do it for some reason. If you want to be the richest and baddest in town go play multiplayer for any of the games
@@deathtrap5556 because the purpose of gta v was not gang culture unlike gta sa which covered that well
@@anattackhelicopter2680 true, I just said a few more missions as a nod, since he's not the only character in the game. Personally I think GTA 5 has a pretty good interweaving story for a game with 3 fully playable characters
@@deathtrap5556 yeah I agree with you too but at least it does have some pretty good ones like hood safari, lamar down

Currently playing through it again now, previously on ps3 years back, now on PC.. Love it, honestly, what a game, its aged well. Personally I love the driving, when you got the hang of it, and the weight of the cars.. It was an incredible sensation. After I've completed 4.. Will go straight to BOGT and LAD
For me GTA IV came at a great time because back when I started playing it I had to go for work to NYC during a weekend in 2013 and I fell in love with the city, so playing it was kind of going back to the Big Apple (and with LCD Soundsystem as background). Good times (I am playing it again BTW on my old 360)
GTA SA: map, vehicles and weapons diversity
GTA IV: realism, weapons feeling and physic
As for theme songs both.
Iv story was also good
More variety of Fight moves. In gta IV?
And both in terms of story.
Gta 4 map is way more beautiful then any other gta game. Even gta 5 map is worse than gta 4 map
This game perfected the feeling of the “American Dream” and how it feels to live in America
4 will always be my favorite because it was the first game I ever got for my PlayStation 3! It was the only game I had for a couple months until Christmas. Having come from SA, I was blown away at the physics and just the overall look of the city. I go back to it now and then on PC for nostalgia and to get all the references that went over my head as a kid 😂
I love the driving and damage mechanics, they really caught me, the shooting and everything else.....this is my favorite game and top notch work, I played on PS3, still love it to this day, even though I haven't played in 10 years, I still have memories of it

@@cudan2941 theres nothing out there which can run Crysis at Maximum Settings

Now it will be can it run cyberpunk
Despite my favorite is GTA V, GTA IV is the most realistic out of all GTA's and the best story easily
Except the gameplay and driving sucked

I can't count how many times I've been thrown from my vehicle in 30 mph car accidents.
@@Gl-my8fw I enjoyed the game play but fax 📠 the driving was total ass
@@Gl-my8fw kinda is, its too slippery and feels more like driving a boat rather than a car
As he said, the GTA with the most heart. I remember when it came out, I was a sophomore and begged my mom to get me the PS3 so I can play. At the time, it was the best thing I've seen. It is still my fav to this day.
One thing that was awesome from the DLC campaigns it's how they all were intertwined with the bad game, after you finish TBOGT you feel like you finished the story proper this time.
