Traxxas is getting out of control with high priced low optioned vehicles. They just want you to spend extra money to upgrade it to the way it should be.
Upgrades are always optional. Seems like arrma wants you to buy a whole new car to get updates/upgrades, thinking of the groms….and all the different versions of their vehicles….

You’re in for a treat if you haven’t tried 6s yet . They’re actually decent on 4s in the beginning getting used to the RC . I know I did my first couple packs . Now it’s max6 1650kv combo but that was totally not necessary and adds weight . Good luck . I think you picked some winners imho .
Then spend your money on a vehicle that’s meant to be 3s, problem solved. This is being released as a BL2s system. Of course if you try to make it what it’s not there will be problems and expenses. Grab a 3s Arrma granite or a 3s VXL stampede like I did. I have both and they’re awesome cars. This isn’t meant to be 3s. It’s meant to be a little mini 2s basher.
Based on Parkflyers, it seems like the motor is the problem with the BL2S. They're swapping the quicrun 3652-4000kV motor in and getting significantly better performance out of the 2S cars for $35. The 2S motor seems like it was made slow either intentionally or because it's excessively cheap.
The rear diff doesn't handle 3s either. Tomley blew out 3 rear diffs on 3s. Video coming this weekend. Traxxas cut every possible corner and it's embarrassing to watch people fawn over this expensive slow truck.

@@RedArrow220it was made slow intentionally. It was made to replace their brushed motors. That's why they used a brushed motor can and it even has a fan inside the can like a brushed motor. Also, the diffs can't handle 3s. Tomley blew 3 rear diffs on the vxl system. So don't just assume a straight motor swap will do.
Traxxas slapped everyone that buys the Mini Maxx right in the face…from day 1, it was a BS money pit from since they released it in 2s, yet they had all of those upgrades already ready to go 😂

For years I’ve wondered why people throw their money away on Trax-ass vehicles! Not saying you are Razor because you’re in the RC review business so it’s almost a necessity for you to purchase these trucks. But after seeing videos of their products I’m just shaking my head at how they put together their products! They put the cheapest parts in their trucks and charge the most for them! If their competitors did that they would get trolled for it forever! I mean come on! A plastic geared servo?! Are we still in 1998?! If they added a decent servo, better shocks and a metal center drive shaft or center diff with metal gearing this could be a great truck! It wouldn’t even cost that much and they could still make a profit at the same price of $270! But after you upgrade those parts on your own you could’ve bought a 1/10 scale truck from Arrma or 2 trucks from the cheaper Chinese RCs on Amazon! Sorry about the rant! Great work as always! This is why I follow RazorRc. You get an honest review unlike PF (you can guess who they are). With them, you voice your opinion, and they call their viewers/customers names. (No Joke). Razor always gives us a good video and their unbiased opinion. they never seem like a sales pitch. Keep it up!
Interesting…. I was in my LHS and the Traxxas rep indicated that price increase was on the second shipment of these that was expedited and cost more to Traxxas….. there are also other videos out there explaining this…
It’s really annoying all these companies send these new cars to UA-camrs first, like we are chopped liver, obviously if you get one early it’s a good review these big UA-camrs would not give it a bad review cause traxxas would stop supporting them
I think they need to put a real brushless system in this. Not that fake brushless 2s. Basically like the Grom, the VLX. I got the blue Grom coming very soon. I’m excited for that. This mini maxx . Not so much.
Me too! I was one of the knuckleheads who bought the Jato 4x4. I literally just cancelled my pre-order for the mini maxx as I am very underwhelmed with their recent releases.
Yeah I agree, however It can be geared up. But only 3 more teeth. So I’m not sure how much difference it would make. I hope it can go fast enough to back flip easier. it hits 30mph but is nose heavy. So it front flips pretty easily compared to back flipping.
I think I'll stick with the Omni Terminator. Dollar for dollar i don't think the mini Max can keep up. I feel like this is a really great time to be an Arrma fan. The OT list price is $260 but you won't pay that for it unless you want to. It's frequently on sale on Amazon for a low as $212.

I don’t think that I’ve ever purchased an RC at a super inexpensive price that was this good (and a bit sexy looking) I mean everything is sweet with these trucks. Because of these 2 trucks I went out and purchased 2 ROC1 Gladiators and had a freaking awesome time (well awesome till I broke a rear driveshaft but that’s not a really big deal and I just easily fixed it) and what made it even more awesome and impressive and put a bigger smile on my face was the fact of how little this little beast costed me. 👍👍👍💯💯💯🙂🤷🏻♂️

The Maxx is supposed to be Traxxas’ flagship line. The X-Maxx has some great power and performance, but the Maxx is alright and this seems okay, but from a flagship I think it should be more like the impression the HPI Savage XS left. A bonkers little monster that would do backflips with ease, overpowered and built for it.
it'll be arrma for me for a while. these releases, it's desperate and sad. Traxxas is the only company that will sell you a liability right out of the box, ya it works but it needs so much to bring it up to par with the rest of the industry. I mean they know what people want, they sell them, just not the cars. Mudboss, jato4x4, maxx slash, mini maxx, raptor r. That is what modern traxxas has come out with.
I would like to go for the savage xs but even this has still the price range of the great Rival MT10, I think traxxas should be offer a 3s brushless center diff'ed mini maxx for the same price...

Not for me way to expensive & not that good, just get the Omni Terminator. Way better truck & cheaper, plus a better driving experience. I know of 4 diff failures already on the Mini Max where the VXL system was fitted.
I would say this is more of a skate park basher and if that's the case why not just buy an mjx hyper go 16208 for a lot cheaper. Parts are easily available and they are very durable

Hard pass for me. I'd rather buy a 4s maxx and be done with it. That thing is wildly underpowered and requires a motor/esc upgrade right out of the box. This should of come to market as a 3s system for $329. Traxxas really missed the mark on this one imo.
It’s just sad how much of a letdown this is, I would call myself a Traxxas fanboy but I still find it hard to recommend them to people that ask. They just need to actually give you a good vehicle either way good parts instead of cheaping out
the GTR shocks do fit. Traxxas sells them in a set of 4 on the accessories page. it takes the short ones front and rear. what do you mean it jumps like a maxx? like the rear end kicking up?
The savage xs is not 3s capable. I had it and it was great on 2s but just like this one the driveline just couldn’t cope with 3s and there aren’t really any upgrades. At least this one will have good third party support.

I agree mostly. They would have to make a different smaller 3S capable can. That would be an extra expense. But I think all the drive and the servo wall handle three it’s all 10 scale stuff.. I got the Grom vxl on the way. Very excited for that. But you’re right this didn’t excite me all that much other than it’s a little truck running pretty well. And I love Traxxas . I have a ton of their vehicles. But for today’s standards, they are underpowered mostly.👍🏼
The biggest thing that gets me is the center diff isn't available yet. That would fix the issue with the drivetrain on 3s. *traxxas did say that updating to 3s requires the center diff, so where the fuck is it?* What about the metal driveshafts? Aluminum shocks? Where are the options for me to build it how I want? Mid February? Come on, that's pathetic. Granted it's not officially out yet but still.

Every time I drive in gravel the front tires throw debris up into the chassis and my motor gets locked up. Terrible design.

I had it almost 2 weeks and stripped the teeth off one of the rear driveshaft cups. My hobbytown warranteed it for me, but they had it at least another 12 days waiting on parts from Arrma. These companies, all of them, need to do a better job of having shit ready to go parts wise right when they drop these cars. Not a month later.
This kinda seems like a way to get rid of old parts lol maybe traxxas is clearing out inventory 🤷🏿♂️ might see if i can grab one of these off fb market place for like $100 after christmas to put all my rustlers old parts on😂
Razor RC was probably filming further away. It changes the speed and makes any product look kind of inferior small week. I don’t think he loves Traxxas. But probably not intentional. It’s the way he films everything.
I was just thinking the same thing. In most other videos that I have seen the truck looked way faster and could pull wheelies out of the box. Granted there are a lot of variables that differ from video to video that could make the truck appear faster/slower like temperature, running surface (asphalt or hard packed dirt vs. loose dirt), the angle the video was filmed at, or the type of lens on the camera (I feel like he might be using a wider angle lens which could make the truck look slower).
Excellent video brother I'm getting my son his first rc he's 10. No joke I was in between termi or mini max I am leaning more toward the termi just because I feel like we can get more out it but yeah keep it up with the great reviews 🫡
You will like it the cf omni , it’s smooth . The controller might be a little tough for a 10 yr old but mine came locked and there’s a way to lock and unlock in the instructions . Hold down bottom left or right while powering on . Make sure you know which one because the other is a nightmare to get out of . I ve set mine and it’s been locked for months . If not the Omni or not the arrma 223s line or the 4s red cats are $240 atm and that s a deal and a half

I hear traxxas is selling it for 270 on the website but has it at 250 at hobby stores to improve sales at hobby stores

I had it almost 2 weeks and stripped the teeth off one of the rear driveshaft cups. My hobbytown warranteed it for me, but they had it at least another 12 days waiting on parts from Arrma. These companies, all of them, need to do a better job of having shit ready to go parts wise right when they drop these cars. Not a month later.

Something isn’t right here, every video I’ve watched the truck was way faster than what I’m seeing in this video.
Razor RC was probably filming further away. It changes the speed and makes any product look kind of inferior small week. I don’t think he loves Traxxas. But probably not intentional. It’s the way he films everything.
I was just thinking the same thing. In most other videos that I have seen the truck looked way faster and could pull wheelies out of the box. Granted there are a lot of variables that differ from video to video that could make the truck appear faster/slower like temperature, running surface (asphalt or hard packed dirt vs. loose dirt), the angle the video was filmed at, or the type of lens on the camera (I feel like he might be using a wider angle lens which could make the truck look slower).
Out of the box I would move the rear shocks to the inner hole to increase down travel.

You will like it the cf omni , it’s smooth . The controller might be a little tough for a 10 yr old but mine came locked and there’s a way to lock and unlock in the instructions . Hold down bottom left or right while powering on . Make sure you know which one because the other is a nightmare to get out of . I ve set mine and it’s been locked for months . If not the Omni or not the arrma 223s line or the 4s red cats are $240 atm and that s a deal and a half
