    This guy is a monster! I am tired of hearing people competing on how many notes people can be played in a second. First of all, because Guthrie would win this speed competition as well. And secondly, because phrasing is everything. So, listening to Nick Johnston, Guthrie and Steve Morse, for example, seem to make a lot more sense to me. And FAS, GREAT JOB! Fantastic tone!

    I really started to learn this. reeeealy slow and now I can play it maybe at 60% speed and still sloppy at best at fast passages but what struck me really hard is the fact that HE PICKS ALMOST EVERY NOTE at the fast passage at 1:12. For me undoubtedly the best guitar player on this planet. Maybe others, too. I will forever not be not amazed by everything he can do and does when he improvises.

    Fun fact: he used his fretting pinky less than 20 times (I counted 15 but I probably missed some). He tends to keep it at the ready but out of the way, and use it as needed. Mine is always sicking straight out like I'm drinking a cup of tea with my left hand. Got to work on that!

      He can hold back if he wanted to, but sometimes he feels a certain way about music and thats what comes out. It would be like having a friend who is really excited about a topic he is an expert in and wants to really talk about it and you telling him to calm down... would be a bit of a shame; you might not like what hes saying but he is defo saying a lot to those who want to listen

    • @skierpage
      @skierpage Місяць тому

      Where are these elevators you hanging out in? He's playing over a jazz-fusion light track with both chops and feel. Listen again to _Erotic Cakes_ , nothing on it is elevator music.

    I don't like this tone for this song. I like his Suhr and Charvel tone though, especially his new flame maple Charvel.

  • @rudemooddudehamburg
    @rudemooddudehamburg 5 місяців тому +1

    It’s a bit annoying that has to crank the tone or use distortion over every chord progression. Doesn’t fit the mood of this chord progression. His playing is all about playing thousand of notes. He never lets the chord progression breath. Give it time to build up a momentum. I can respect him for his technique but there are players out there who live in a way more interesting co existence with the chords and the mood. But that’s a general problem with these technique shredders. Less is more IMO.

    • @gypsyfromthesatelliteoflov5425
      @gypsyfromthesatelliteoflov5425 2 місяці тому +1

      You might just not have heard enough of his playing. On the same series of videos, he plays sublime stuff, but it would i think be boring and dishonest of him to play any other way. Thats part of who he is, it might not be for you, but thats his identity as an artist.
      Less is more can be good at times, but it is also not for everyone, some people love the adventurous nature of players like guthrie who want to explore what else can be done, rather than the opposite

    • @skierpage
      @skierpage Місяць тому

      Funny, this is an example of GG _not_ playing thousands of notes. It's relaxed and soulful for him but still full of ideas, which makes it more interesting bar-by-bar then a spread-out solo. You're right about momentum and breathing, everything happens fast even when he's not shredding. He's the master of the three-bar blues 😉.

    • @skierpage

      Maybe, but more and different ideas and more technique. This reminds me of Jay Graydon's solo on Manhattan Transfer's "Twilight Zone / Twilight Tone."

    • @kisstagals
      @kisstagals 6 років тому

      cindy nobrot I can't bet on vibrato thing but one thing I can count on is with musically not much to remember .. sometimes he need to be like Joe and slash where everything is not about thousand notes per measure but something perfect melody and catchy heart touching solos where every mediocre or general person can get to it... playing music is not always about shred or show how much skills per measure, being musician or artist sometimes need to capture general people.
