hey Clay , i've got a question but it would probably be dumb as hell as i'm not too well versed in the stock market .. that question being -
Can you only sell a stock after you've bought it ?
or another way to put it would be : can you sell a stock ( thinking price will no longer go up ) , profit on it if the stock goes down in price , WITHOUT buying the stock ?
asking this question as i've only heard people say they've bought stocks , then sold it . And brokerages such as eToro which allows traders to click on buy or sell of a stock .. This may be stupid but please do let me know ! :)

I understand how a stock becomes valuable. And forgive me I'm new to this, is it all just buy and sell all day every day? It seems like the only way to make money on a stock is to sell it after it increases in value. Do you then invest again when it dips in value? Is that how you do it? I'm having trouble understanding how you make money. What if you don't want to sell a valuable stock? i.e. S&P 500 increases 10% annually and you invest, at the end of that fiscal year you've made 10% on your money. So you keep S&P 500 but the following year it dips, do you loose the previous years10% gain? How does it work? Is your money hostage until you sell? When do you see the profits from a valuable stock? Can you pull money out w/out selling the stock and if so, how does that effect the value of your shares? Sorry a lot of questions. I just opened a Robinhood account and I haven't bought anything yet Lol. Ty for your video and your help.

I hold the stock for 10 years; and I sell it at $6 per share. So basically I make $100 over ten years? That doesn’t seem like good/smart investing. So here are three questions. Number 1. Time periods, why in most of these binary trading apps are there set periods and are there apps where you can just buy and sell in an indefinite or user defined period. Like I buy this stock and hang onto it until it reaches a point where I want to sell it.
2 So what's up with the term day trader? What does that mean? And what do you need to be one. These apps make it seem so easy but I suspect that's mostly for binary options and I have no idea how that works behind the scenes. Or if it's even legit.
    3. So I'm interested in trading forex or learning how. But I have no idea where to start to get an in depth knowledge of it so I'm not just counting on luck.
Bonus question. When you open a trade as a short or a put what are you actually wanting to happen. Talking forex here. It's confusing as hell. Free chart software to practice on?

A lot of my friends have suggested penny stocks, but i'm not really sure what they are or how much risk is really involved with them. I'm am very new to the idea of stock trading (and by very new, I mean like a couple weeks in to doing a little research) and honestly have not much of an idea what I should be doing. I still can't find explanation to why the stocks work like this; I understand that when a company is doing well, their stocks go up because people demand them more - but why do they demand them more? If they receive no dividends, then there's no benefit to owning them shares, other than the pretense that it will grow because other people are going to invest.. But I can't understand why people would invest, other than with the same notion that others will invest as well..

    • @claytrader

But it makes no sense as to why that trend started - it's just a thing right? Can I make a decent earning from stocks by retirement time if I starts now? Also may I know when will be right time to buy a stock and how we can value a company to know whether that companies shares worth? Many Thanks

    Hi Clay,
As you mentioned in AAPL example that the company grows and it increases the revenue hence the profit, if this profit is not shared among the shareholder (dividend) why would someone like to pay higher price. And if investors do pay higher price ,does it mean that they are hoping for company to pay dividend one day? if share price increases ,doesn’t it imply that investor is hoping that some idiot will pay higher price than he did and cycle will continue?

Hello ClayTrader, I really liked your previous videos and this one. I learned a lot about the stock market basically. I just have a few questions. One, what if the company stops selling stocks to buyers? Does this mean that the stock value will go down? Will the company have fewer stocks because of this effect? Lastly, what if your investors(the buyers, in simple words) sell your stock to other people? Even though they will make more money, will the value and/or price of your stock increase or decrease or even stay the same? If it increases, will you earn money from it?
Hope you answer my questions even if you don't mention me in your videos. I will very much appreciate it as a beginner of learning about the stock market.

Thanks for the series, really informative and beginner friendly. Quick question though, what *specifically* makes a company’s shares worth more money? I understand that it’s when the company “grows”, and therefore worth more money, but why do the *share prices* increase in cost? Is it the increase in demand for shares because more people are buying them? Does the company dictate the share price themselves (unlikely)? Or something else?

Clay, thanks so much for your video--Wonderful content! 1. Which is better to focus on (dividends or growth) when purchasing stocks with goals of producing a higher ROI over time? If the answer is "it depends," then what are some other investment indicators we should consider in addition to dividends and/or growth potential to ensure we're making well-rounded and educated investment decisions? 2. When we say growth, is that subjective, or are there industry standards that objectively reveal what growth/dividend yields are in terms of below average, average, and above average? Thanks!

In a situation , where you want to sell thinking it'll drop in value or just want to get out with the profits you have made, (correct me if I'm wrong), the buyers are those willing to invest in the stock thinking it would go up. But what if you wanna sell, and there are no buyers? Do you wait for the buyers to show up? Are there always some or the other buyers? Or is there some other mechanism at work while selling. ( In general , is it just a transaction from seller to buyer, like a thing you would buy at a grocery, or some other process?)
