Thank you for this review, Sarah. You did a great job presenting the technique! I hope it has continued to work well for you as you advance in your knowledge of Japanese.

Thank you so much for your time and comment Mr. Arguelles! I hadn't gone back to watch my initial thoughts and impressions of Scriptorium in a long time so watching this video now that I'm much more advanced in Japanese is interesting to say the least. I'm using this method every week and more efficiently in my studies, and my classmates use it as well! It's amazing for learning Kanji and vocabulary words in Kanji as well as radicals and their meanings. Thanks again!

So this must be the only other video on scriptorium that Alexander found on the web. Nice job! Thanks for posting. Regards from Greece.

I love this technique. I often combine it with talking to myself in the target language, and trying to incorporate some of the sentences, or variations on the sentences in my speech. I feel doing this supercharges the method.

I enjoy using scriptorium with Polish and Russian. Sometimes I'll use the Bible, sometimes I'll use the Witcher, sometimes I'll use something by Dostoevsky or Gogol. I agree it's more of an advanced method.
I use it when I want to *meditate* on a sentence or a paragraph, break it down and analyze it, maybe it uses a sentence structure or a word that I want to use more frequently in my own conversations, maybe it just expresses a deep thought.
With the Bible example, I'll do it in both Polish and Russian at the same time, comparing a verse or a chapter side-by-side in two translations. That's also a fun exercise not just for getting to know the Bible, but also for recognizing similarities and differences in these two related languages.

Hi Sarah, great video and thanks for making it! I found it through a recommendation from Prof. Arguelles :D
Do you think a phrase book would be good enough as a starter?

Excellent presentation Sarah. You talk about your impressions regarding the idea of scriptiorium, then you TEST it, then you comment. As Alexander points out, you presented the technique very very well, many people just miss the crucial points here. You can follow - I'm sure you do - what Alexander released recently about scriptorium and shadowing on his channel. The impressive thing about your take on it is that even as a beginner you already know how to write!! Personally I postpone it for later, first I want to acquaint myself with as much sound and script and meaning as I possible can PASSIVELY (yet repeating aloud in order to train the mouth). Good luck with your continued studies!

Hello, Sarah. Would love to see where you are at now with this technique. Could you possibly show how you may have refined it after two years?

I'm doing it in Ukrainian right now as a false beginner and I'm impressed, I feel that I personally prefer it to Flashcards!

The method doesn’t seem so fun so I think I’ll skip it for something else. I can see the appeal though. I like trying out new things. This weeks new idea is sentence of the day. I’m picking a sentence out of my grammar book (I need better grammar skills) and using that. I’m studying Korean.
