In this makeover, I transform an old desk into a set of mid-century modern nightstands with a unique stain and paint combination.
Once a part of a 1950s desk, these pieces have been repurposed to stand as independent nightstands, bonded in style.
The top, base, and face of the desk were made out of particle board. This meant that I would have to replace them with solid wood if I wanted to stain them, so that's exactly what I did with this project. For the top and base, I used a couple of salvaged dining table tops that I collected over time through Facebook Marketplace (you can often find them for super cheap or sometimes even free, which is amazing for the amount of solid wood you’re getting.) For the drawer fronts and the door, I used solid wood cutting boards that I also had in my garage - they were the perfect depth! :D

Thank you for watching :)

Love that there's no music. So soothing and peaceful to watch
Me too. Just the sound of his tools is music enough. 🎶
I LOVE the happy face bandage on your repaired mallet. Made me smile 😊
😃
Beautiful results. I am one of the lucky ones who find a channel little late and then get to binge watch all the videos.
😂😂
Imagine how lucky I am: I have 19-1/2 months of videos to binge on! 🤣🤣😜
This is not a hobby, this is professional work 😄
🙏🏻❤️
No kidding! It’s great to see someone who loves what they do and can turn it into a career.
Agreed!
This is pure art
Perhaps a bit of both?
I really like the fact that you use salvaged wood to remake some parts of the furniture. You smartly used your available resources and keep usable wood from the landfill. Great job!
Not only are your craftsman skills excellent, but your video editing skills are excellent, as well. You understand the aesthetic quality of well done video/audio editing. This is such a relaxing channel that I coincidentally learn so much from. Even if you made videos of grocery shopping, I’m sure I’d still enjoy them. Thank you for this channel.
Thank you for the awesome comment ❤️
you've spoilt me for all other furniture makeover channels now.
I love the fact that you spray the inside of the cabinets as well makes all the difference in my opinion
“Beauty is on the inside” 😆

wow your account has been around since you tube was founded
Great work
Fabulous.
The amount of detail and care that you’ve put into this. This was one of the most relaxing, attention grabbing videos I’ve watched. And the finished product, Bravo!
I’m so happy to hear that you enjoyed it! Thank you 😄
Exactly what I was thinking.
I'm going to share this video to thise that I know that like to upcycle.
I've done alot of repurposing of old furniture but I never would have thought of turning an old desk into to end tables great job
It’s a fun project!!
Very very nice
FANTASTIC!!!! 💜💜💜💜
Definitely a genius
😳
Lovely pieces of furniture now. Love the no talking/no soundtrack thing too!
Much thanks!
Kids laughing and playing in the background are such a pleasant background to the mechanical sounds of his reno. The Reno is always on point and the recording and editing is too. Love how this turned out.
Me too. I don't mind talking but I don't understand why some many creators think the annoying music is neccessary.
@@d.s.3551 Some have the music so loud you can't hear what they are saying and YT closed caption is a JOKE😂
I would buy both of these in a heartbeat. 😭😱😫
brother, that's a mighty fine prefab/resto. super creative and looks straight out of a magazine at the end there. nice touch! just a heads up @3:50 you should always consciously set your blade facing away from your fence for your bevels chamfers. (like a 'V' or check mark' rather than a 'tent' haha. ) sry, I'm bad at explaining. if you can't just be extra careful... I only say this because I got very hurt in February from kickback doing almost that same cut you did on 3/4 maple.
Thanks! I’ll keep that in mind 👍🏻
New favourite channel. So talented!
I'm always impressed by the way you reuse things. Seeing the stashes of material from old projects makes me happy, knowing that so many things were given new life. Thanks for an informative video as well!!
DUDE!! What an amazing transformation!!
Thank you!!
you make everything look so easy! Beautiful!
Sooooooooooo well done!
You are so good and fun to watch an artist at work😃
I’m flattered 😅 Thank you!
Man, you are an inspiration. THX.
🙏🏻❤️
I like it! You have a talent with colours ;o)
Bravo! You are so, so talented!
Thank you so much!
Fantastic job. As an interior designer I can certainly appreciate what an incredible eye you have to see how what was (old and in disrepair) and how it could be turned into beautiful, stylish and chic bedside tables that we all know would really cost from a furniture store. Absolutely love the results and quite frankly wish I had them. Once again, great job.
Wow, thank you so much for your kind words :)
oh yes perfect way to start my sunday
😃🙏🏻
amazing job!
Thank you :)
The fact that you included the mishap with the mallet makes this video THAT much more enjoyable. I feel like that kind of stuff only happens to me.
wow!! the stands look amazing!
Thank you!
Great work👍💯👏
WOW! Most people wouldn't have looked twice at that beat up particle board piece of crap, but you not only looked AT it, you looked BEYOND it! This was an incredible transformation! I'm a little mad that you showed everyone how useful old, solid wood tabletops can be, though. I'm afraid my freebies will dry up now. 🤣 Fantastic, Andy!
😂😂 Thank you!
Right?! I’ve been buying up old tables for years as the wood is so useful!
Year ago, my employer was throwing out a large old wood desk. The base cabinets were veneer particle board, but the large top was 1.5" thick solid oak!
I turned it into a "flip down" workbench in my garage. I was pretty proud of the engineering I did to make it pivot up against the wall to allow for car parking, then pivot down with separate legs to form a very solid workbench. It was instrumental as a work surface when I built my own kitchen cabinets. Sadly, I sold that house and left the work table in the garage for the new owner, but I regret leaving it.
@@canadude6401 that’s awesome! Saving the good wood tops is so useful. I keep grabbing table leafs and broken tables for the wood. I’m always surprised more people don’t do that.
I love how you don't throw anything, but instead you are reusing it. You do an excellent job, not only in changing things, but in editing too. Super entertaining and inspiring to watch!
You always do such a great job!
I love your videos. You are practical, detailed and you have a very artistic view to bring back the best of the grain wood in your work. I appreciate the quality in the video editing. I learn a lot watching your relaxing videos. Great work!
Thank you so much!!
Amazing! What attention to detail!
Thank you!!
Such attention to detail. Amazing 👏
🙏🏻🙏🏻
So I’ve been watching all Andy’s videos and thought “wow, I really enjoy these woodworking / restoration videos… I should check out some other creators!” Wrong…. I like Andy’s videos, the production - videography, sound… the awesome back yard, kids in the playground, birds, excellent garage shop. I’m a fan Andy… awesome job! And your makeovers are fantastic; not one I wouldn’t want in my own house. Thank you
Beautiful
Thank you :)
I would really like to see a video on how you store your tools, nails etc... it looks so creative and efficient!
There will be a workshop hack series coming in the future! :)
@ModernMakeovers is it the future yet?
Nice work. Nice camera angles. Nice asmr.
😃❤️
You dont understand IM OBSESSED.
Haha thank you!!
Thank you for sharing your gift with the world 🌎😊
Your attention to detail blows my mind! I love that you always find a way to mix wood with painted finishes.
When that mallet broke! So cute!
The result is unexpected. You knew how you could give a second brilliant life to that uninteresting piece of furniture. Bravo!
Glossy cabinet, glossy editing. Fab work, thanks you
Beautiful furniture.
😁🙏🏻
Gorgeous result 🤩
Thank you!

Thank you!!
I loved the Canada pen, little bug walk and the mallet makeover. 😊
Man, you have every tool and scrap wood under the sun. I love it. You are so awesome.
You're like MacGyver 😁 that had all the gadgets!! Great work!! 👏👏👏
😂🙏🏻
Yes I love the pieces, amazing job
Thank you :)
I would really enjoy a studio tour and/or a discussion on this guys philosophy as a maker. There is obviously a theme of cheap is good, free is best and I find it really intriguing
Nothing beats free :D
@@ModernMakeovers we would love to get to know you better. Do you make your living flipping or do you have a full time job too? How did you get started flipping and how did you learn your skills? You are extremely creative and figure this talent must show up in other parts of your life too. Do you cook, paint, make home decor or wall art? Just a tiny peek into your hobbies would be very interesting. I truly admire your talent.
gorgeous!!!!
😄🙏🏻
It will never cease to amaze me how few subscribers you have🤔your finished product and amazing editing makes you one of the best furniture flippers on UA-cam.
I appreciate your kind words ❤️
Excellent work
Amazing!
Thank you!
So basically you made them completely new. Not much left of the originals haha. I love this channel.
😁👌🏻
There's a phrase in the UK, 'Trigger's Broom' based on a joke from a TV show. This reminded me of that. 😄
I am so amazed. Fine craftsmanship. Nothing was left behind including the inner drawers. Awesome job. Hats off to you.
I wouldn’t want the inner drawers to feel left out 😁 🙏🏻❤️
@@ModernMakeovers I can empathise. It is just feels bad to be overlooked and ignored. 😘😊😍🙏. Sometimes it pays to look at the totality of things. Furnitures included. 😊♥️🙏
Love rhe precision and attention to detail! Like sanding all the edges smooth.😀
In your hands nothing is lost everything is recreated
Love it! Again.
Thank you 😄
superb!
Thank you :)
Your video told me the story of separating a set of conjoined twins and giving each an individual magical makeover. Now they are the pair they always were destined to become, because your craftsmanship is the stuff of myth and legend! Fabulous upgrade! Loved watching your creative process. I enjoyed the quick tool repair as well. Beautiful results all around!
I like that story a lot 😃 Glad you enjoyed it!
So much attention to detail 👌🏾
🙏🏻🙏🏻
Can you lend me your talent for a little? Promise to give it back😇 Very impressed with this one, great job!
You’ve got quite some talent yourself with your DIYs!! Thank you 😁
@@ModernMakeovers nothing like you though, if only I didn’t watch them all already, I’d binge watch😁
I was completely captivated! My mind is blown. Now that's talent.
Absolutely fantastic 👌👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you!
I think you are wood wizard and your skills are magic! What a joy to watch you work without a noisy, boring musical background.
I love them!
I’m glad you love em!
I really like what you did to them, separating them and making individual cabinets. Personally, I wouldn'tve painted, I would have left it stained wood. But, to each artist their own. I still love them :+)
simply GENIUS.BEAUTFUL WORK I COULD WATCH YOU ALL DAY
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 Really enjoyed this video and the other videos. When the mallet came apart 😭😂
🥲
I was like 'eek' and then 'phew' 😭😂
So nice ,love the color combination
Thank you !
Wow ! You have a lot of patience but in the end the night stands are absolutely gorgeous !!
Thank you 😁
Looks great!! Love the color!
Thank you!
Wow! I love the results. Again, you did a great job 👍🏾 -Anna
Thank you Anna!
Love that you used a scrap solid wood table top for the build! 👏🏾 That would have cost a nice penny at the big box store! I knew i was keeping mine for a reason 😄
Anything solid wood is like gold!
These twins are so hip n styley they're ready for the shop! :)
All our skills should improve if we watch and learn, you’re a true craftsman and perfectionist. It really is trash to treasure
Thank you!!
Very nice contrast between paint and wood and the reverse pattern. Awesome job!
Thank you :)
Honestly, this video has everything. The incredibly relatable breaking a tool mid project, but the satisfaction of repairing it and getting back to your work with a smile, the polishing of the fine metal components, the gorgeous stain work (which makes me honestly want to get out there and stain anything and everything wooden in my home myself, but I don't think my family would appreciate it) , and the appreciation of nature in between it all because wood work and furniture work makes you appreciate the beauty of the nature the material we refurbish or reuse comes from. You do amazing work as always. Looking forward to continuing catching up on your backlog!
Love it! These are so stylish and beautiful! Well done!
😁🙏🏻
I'm in love with this makeover!
Thank you so much!! Your content is great!
Stunning
Thank you!
Love this video! And your others. Your craftsmanship and your organization of tools- wow! Loved how you fixed your hammer. 😁 I can't even cut a straight line- thank you for your videos!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed :)
Such patience and such craftsmanship 👏
Using dining table tops for these flips is such a creative and fantastic idea!!! Especially with the price of lumber being as expensive as it is these days, this solution offers top quality wood without breaking the budget! Love!!!
Great great job. Love how it comes out. Lots of greetings from Lübeck at the Baltic Sea Germany
Thank you!✊🏻
You are a real artist! Congratulations on the fantastic outcome!! ✌️💡
Awesome rehab. Love the distressing. Genius.
I could watch these videos all day. 😻 Amazing work!
Haha thank you so much!
Clever use of old parts as templates. Love the juxtaposition of stain and paint. Very cool finished pieces.🌷🌷
Thank you! 😁

I’m sure they would love your home too 😄
Wow, your furniture is high class. Real art! 👏👏👏
