For future people referencing this video, 1) You can get away with just taking off the front half of the aero panel. Its flexible, and wont get bent out of shape. This is especially helpful if you are using jackstands instead of a lift where you have limited room. I realized the old owner just had the panel held in place with the hex screw at the front, push clip at the front and another push clip at the end. Nothing out of place or hanging awkwardly. I just take out the hex screw and front tab and voila. 2)the drain bolt is a bitch to take off. I used a 12" ratchet to no avail. Had my exhaust guy loosen it for me. A beefy guy should be ok, but im 170lb 5'8" who does strength sports and I couodnt budge it with a small wrench. Likely need a longer wrench, but space is limited if you are under the car with jackstands. Dont overtighten for future. Stop after giving it a brief squeeze after its tightened. 3) 3L are supposed to be drained, 7L is the total capacity. You can get atleast 4.5L out by turning on the car after the 3L drains out, and shit through the gears. Maybe 10 seconds each gear 2-3 times. Give a lil gas (few hundred RPM) to get even more out. You can kinda see it drain if the car is lifted a little and if you are flexible enough to bend over to see under the car with your foot on the pedal. 4) why did i do above method? Because you have 43% new fluid the first change if draining 3L, compared to 64% new oil. A second change with 4.5L drain gets you 87% new oil. You would need 4 changes with the 3L method to get 89%. You are doing half the work for essentially the same result. 3L drain method: 1 change 43% new, 2 change: 67% new, 3rd change 81% new, 4th change 89% new, 4.5L method: 1 change: 64% new, 2 change: 87% new, 3 change: 96% new. 5) Filling via the dipstick hole is perfectly fine. Use a funnel, and a straw taped to the bottom so that it fits in the dipstick hole. I dont have tools to access the fill plug because its long, so most people will ifnd the drain plug just fine. Dont pour too fast and be patient. Takes maybe 10-15min to top it off. 6) Be wary of how much you put in so you dont overfill. Helps if you have markings on your "drain pan". I used a clear ice cream cake lid from DQ lol and premeasured 1,2,3,4,5L markings on it. See how much was drained, and put around that much back in. Underfilling is much easier to fix than overfilling. Be sure to run your engine, shift through gears and give a lil gas to get fluid into the system. Check back after a day to know its proper level once fluid is displaced where it needs to go. 7*) I would recommend going with Valvoline Maxlife ATF. My first change, I did the Honda DW-1 as recommended. 2nd fill i used Valvoline. Before the fill, i had jerky shifts, especially at low speeds. First change reduced that, perhaps about 50%. The second change it was virtually gone (90% atleast). EITHER the Valvoline ATF is just better than the Honda DW-1, AND/OR the second change got more old fluid out of the system, making the shifts better. Either way, the Valvoline is perfectly fine, and is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper and easier to source. Pack of 6x950mL DW-1 was $115, 5L Valvoline $40 from walmart. No issues. IDK why people warned to only use Honda fluid, but many have found Valvoline better and solved their issues. 8) Should have included this earlier, but all the room i needed was putting front wheels on a 2" riser. I used a bumper olympic plate for this and worked fine. Don’t need fancy jackstands or lifts if you dont have them, so dont be discouraged if you dont have them. Wood planks would work fine too. Just be sure to put things on back of the rear wheel to prevent any accidental movement.
Front was jacked up just for a bit while i took shroud off underneath. While it was draining it was perfectly flat. On an automatic fluid capacity is actually 7qts.

That's a pretty huge stereotype. Any culture is going to have people who keep their cars clean and some who keep them dirty. I know Asian families who kept their houses immaculate, and I know somebody who bought a house from an Asian family and they had like 8 people living in the house and it was completely filthy from top to bottom.
Have you ever changed your transmission filter? I had my fluid and filter changed at a garage after my transmission started shuttering at 178,000 and it ran great after that for a while. It's at 208,000 now and it needs another change and the garage is getting a little pricey lol.
When one chaneges their transmission fluid, a “flush” is also involved? I have heard many times that it is NOT a good idea to flush or replace the transmission oil.. I am told that doing this can actually damage the transmission...Is this correct?
Personally, If i get under a car, i want to put a solid block of something in case that jack slips or gives. Just me. I don't trust them. But thanks for the useful video.
Great job when you say do it 3x more do you have to just start it and put it in gear or drive it until hit or just add fluid drain 3 time and have you done the timing belt or have a video thanks
@@kayjay4060 I make a small funnel hole and poured it into the dip stick area. It had broken two extention tools. I found that it would work. You just need to get a funnel that can fit into the whole or make something that will fit onto the tip of the funnel. Hope that helps.
hi. I just bought a 2006 tl with 220,000 miles. the records show the transmission was serviced at 80,000 miles. what do you recommend I do? how long do you wait to change oil? thank you.
I think you are supposed to change it every 30,000-40,000 miles. I had mine replaced at 103,000 and I'm at 148,000 now with the same fluid and it's pretty much just as pink as when I got it and doesn't have a burnt smell. As soon as I get a chance though I'm going to get it replaced.
You’re the only one who said it would stop itself at 3 quarts! Thank you for that info

My car was sitting for quite some time I got about 5qts of fluid out of it. I was confused as to why everyone keeps saying 3 qts lol!
@@crzyautochic4807 car turned off? That’s weird to get more than 3qt. Was it on an incline maybe?

Love the steel toed flip flops! Great vid!

Excellent video...very thorough! Feel better about doing it myself now!
Excellent guide - very clear. Thank you very much, a great help.
Great video, footage is great and very easy to follow and understand each step.
I love your accent! Thanks for the help guys!
I highly RECOMMEND using jack stands IN ADDITION to the jack. Never trust a jack alone!
Great Video along with the tips, I just bought my neice an 04 TL and I'll be changing the transmission fluid.
Same here I got a Gold 2004 Acura Tl as well back in August 2015 love it!
Vietnam represent!
THE BEST ONE OUT
what happens if your floor jack fails while you are under the vehicle? SAFETY FIRST!
Gorden Jacobsen he has jackstands, you can see them in the one shot behind the front wheels
At least his toes will be fine!
Great video this is for the 2004 3.2 V6 motor.
Omg, the slippers with long pants...This is so my dad.
Excellent job. Thanks for the great information.
dang!! that 2004 interior looks brand new!!!!
Asians do tend to keep the cars they like very clean and nice, thats why you always see them driving with Seat Covers , Dash Covers, etc. lol

W F i don't know about the filter because I've seen a lot of transmission fluid changes from youtube but not seen them change the filter
W F simply becauze there is no filter for this car.
Bahaa Khaled so this man has been getting robbed for his money?😂

Love your instructional video ,Sir!
I drained out at least 5qts of transmission fluid. How are you only getting 3 qts?
Why couldn't you just refill it through the dipstick?
Good job, U show'd the fill line on the video. U the only one who did.
Very good my friend
Can't you pour new oil to the dipstick hole?
Tuan Nguyen
Main reason you don’t do that is because the funnel probably wouldn’t fit the hole in the first place.
@@TheBaoGly Get a funnel that fits the dipstick hole.
I've done it before by putting a bigger funnel in a really small one.
Well my car turns on if u put in drives or reverse just keep cranking I’m hoping it’s fluid problem
I trust this guy, idk why but I just do

So on this car you check the level when the car is cold and off?
Cuantos gallones de aceite se usaron
🙌🙌🙌💯PERFECT!! Thanks
Great job when you say do it 3x more do you have to just start it and put it in gear or drive it until hit or just add fluid drain 3 time and have you done the timing belt or have a video thanks
I heard that you drive for a certain amount of miles between the 3 drains and refills, maybe 100 miles or so.
How May quarters it takes?
Like a baws! Thanks, you made it look easy.
Does car has to be on or off ?
Loved the video. I can't get the fill plug out.

@@kayjay4060 I wouldn't worry about it. You bypassed it so yeah its not necessary to do all that unless you just want to.

He didnt have any jacks stands in place under the car that's crazy ...
702mrg it’s not needed
Great Job!
Amazing
These TL transmissions are baby's. You really have to take care of them if your gonna go lazy on them they will fuck you up lol 😂
Steve Vento ya very true
@Steve Vento Wrong. 2004, 2005, and 2006 were the same transmission. 2007 and 2008 had changes.
osthis simmilar to a 2008 acura
interesting, but I paid 173$ to let the shop do it for me
You got robbed
Please use jack stands
You couldn't give me a S Type or even super handling AWD Acura no matter how hard you tried.
