@denniscw Hey bro I want to do what you did in swapping my uberturbines for someone’s induction wheels , where did you find someone that would trade ?????
I purchased and installed a Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 from Costco Tire Center, 275/35R21 front and 295/35ZR21 rear. It is obvious that the comfort has been improved a lot, and the bumps have been reduced by about 20%. The only downside is that when the speed exceeds 80, the hollow sound of the tires will be louder than the factory tires. But the wider contact surface brings about 4 meters less braking distance at 60 mph. After 2 weeks of about 2000 miles of actual testing, it didn't reduce my cruising range, theoretically there should be a little, but it's not obvious, I can't detect it.
Yea, you feel the bumps. That’s the whole point of performance. You want to feel the road and get that immediate feedback. I like that feeling of being connected.
instead of changing the wheel, you can upgrade the tire for the Uberturbine. 275/35/21 for the rear and 275/35/21 for the front. Its much better, smoother and still look badass.
I would have gone down to a 19". BTW lowering the tire pressure to 38 psi COLD really softens the ride in city use. For long trips air them back up to 42 psi. I have a new PMY on order and plan on selling the OEM 21's and replacing them with 19s from TSportLine. But I might fit them with 275s that will offer even more rim protection vs 255 on all four corners.
I had 20" rims and tires on my non-performance Y and thought the ride was way too harsh. I bought aftermarket 19" rims from Tsportonline and a set of 19" tires from Discount Tire and swapped them out. I then ended up selling the 20" tires and rims for $1700. I'm happy with the smoother ride, but I also agree that it only may be 30% better. The Tesla ride is very tight and you feel every flaw in the road. I intend to also purchase a new set of variable rate springs from Unplugged Performance when they are back in stock.
What about now after long term use? Ik the 19" vs 20" induction drops range from 330 to 318. In ur case there may not be much difference because the wheel designs are so similar.
I drove a performance Y (maybe 22 model) I thought the ride was pretty good. Handling was great. Looks on 21s is great. I hope the brand new Performance rides even better. Planning FSD transfer.
$52 brand new now plus $7500 tax credit so $45k brand new. I got a state rebate too ($2500) and a trade in for $5k. All in all $36,500 for a Brand New Black MYP 🤩
When you take the Tesla to tire store, when they lift the car to change tires do they have to use those special pucks you use when using a jack or don't need?
Beautiful wheels but ride is not as smooth as a 20". But, the best one for just the ride quality is 19". Especially Model Y doesn't have Air suspension like SX, so 19" is the best we can get out for ride quality. But, looks wise 21" is the best, although you can get a 20" wheel cap for the Gemini wheels
@@byuvar Just keep the 21" wheels and you'll have better ride quality by upgrading the front pairs of tires from 255/35 to 275/35 and the rear pairs from 275/35 to 295/35
I just changed my order from stock Gemini, to 20” induction. In Australia it’s $80,000 for RWD standard range in white with white interior ($1500) and 20” induction ($2900). So freaking expensive - but I can’t deal with the tacky silver aero hub caps and the silver Hyundai like Gemini rims. That being said there is VERY LITTLE benefit to low profile rims. Often worse ride, noise, gutter rash prone, much more expensive tires, less resistance to pot holes and often worse range. But they are sexy hahaha By contrast, I love my model 3 rims under the aero hub caps. Really nice metallic gloss, and good styling. I Can’t do the tacky Gemini for such an expensive car here. I think the 21” are a step TOO far. Hyper impractical vs looks.
When my performance arrives in "two weeks" although I don't even have a vin yet.. I will be moving the rear tires up front then putting 295 on the rears. Should give it plenty of meat for rim protection.
Did the guy swapping the rims have a model y long range or was his performance also? I have a 2022 model y long range but I want the 21” so bad. I read on the Tesla App Store it’s not suppose to fit the long range but I don’t see why not
Up until today, I didn't realize there were two different wheel styles. I thought they were both the same! I see the biggest difference between both is the Induction is a deeper black while the Uberturbine is more gunmetal. And the Induction has 10 spokes while the Uberturbine has 11 spokes.
Do you still like the 20 inch or would have gone to 19 inch? I am trying to see what size wheel to go to from my 21's. I am wondering if the ride quality is that much different from 20 to 19.
Taking delivery soon. I love the look if the 21s. Its what drew me in. I'm sure the ride won't be too bad for me. The test drive wasn't too harsh either. For me though.
