Bright Yellow with red and white chevron buffer beams in the style of Queensland sugar cane trains? Excellent!

Jonathon, I had forgotten that the gas mechanical was 5 inch gauge but I do remember it was a lot less work to get it out for a run in Portsmouth. Graham's Britannia is a really beautiful engine thanks for including it in the video . I am not to sure about the yellow color but knowing your artistic talent II am sure it will be great.

The 5 year old in me is going nuts seeing this stuff. I'm a motorbike man now, but if I get to a point where I can't ride anymore, I'll use the motor to make my own train. Should be quite fast if I have a 1250 Bandit.

Excellent video 👍🏻 Funny how you call it a gas mechanical when it’s petrol lol 😆 I lived in Urmston and spent many years with my late dad at the Urmston and district model engineering society at Chassen road. That trip made me think about my childhood days their 😀 It’ll look well with a fresh coat of paint 🎨 hopefully you’ll video it 👍🏻 Newton Heath she’d was a favourite of mine but unfortunately it was the diesel era in the 70s class 40s rained then 🤩 Happy days. Until the next time cheers Stevie 😎

Petrol, John, Petrol. Not 'gas'. Yer back 'ome now mate! Yellow is very good, especially with black stripes. And those Wickes vents don't look as bad as they might, so handsome is as handsome does. The Simplex still wins, tho'. (Biased here, as have one myself!). I too was not fare from Newton Heath in my past, but was in shout of Gorton and Beyers, where my granddad worked. I ended up working on BR in that neck of the woods, but only have limited memories of the steam scene at its end. That little petrol (there's that word again....) engine can get a move on! Cheers mate.

I’ve just added a 5” ex-modelworks prairie to my collection, they can be very nice locos once they’ve been fettled with, looking forward to getting it out for a run😁

I haven't been there for years! I didn't realise there was a ground level circuit. What gauge is it? I'm (VERY) slowly building a 7 1/4" petrol mechanical

    G'day from Australian.
Firstly, a fun video, thank you; I appreciate all your videos.
Regarding the Gas/Mech, can you please describe the drive chain? You have a centrifugal clutch but is there a hydrostatic drive after that or other variable speed device?
I too have a Simplex but scaled up to 7.25" which makes it a good puller at our club in Clare, South Australia. At my former club in Adelaide I was able to comfortably pull 3 8ft long cars with about 15 adults. It is in dock at present while I repair the superheater.
A petrol/mechanical would be handy for when steaming up takes too long or you are too lazy.
    Regards
    Ian

Hi Ian, there's a video I made a while back about the working of the loco : ua-cam.com/video/xDm82hXPU3w/v-deo.html . There no hydrostatic drive it's all mechanical and the not so big secret to its' success is the gearbox. Here's a description: It has a 3.5 hp engine with a 4" diameter clutch and 10 tooth sprocket. The engine will pull about 500 lb up a 1 in 20 grade no problem. The adhesion of the wheels to the rails is the limiting factor and my loco weighs about 180 lbs. A centrifugal clutch does snatch unless your very careful when starting. The gear box I use is a Peerless 700 series, they are on Ebay: www.ebay.com/itm/271911459349?ul_noapp=true The newer ones have 5 forward speeds with neutral and reverse. Try and get one with a disc brake. The brake is very useful, it will stop quite a load and act as a dead man's handle if you connect it to the throttle cable. The thing is to work out your sprocket ratios carefully. In top gear my loco runs at 7 mph with 4" wheels and the engine running at 3400 rpm. Your Simplex must be quite a beast.

Can you take all your gauge one steam locomotives and then try to ride on the track between the 5 and 3 inch track please
