King Knight's mom doesn't refer to him as "son" at the end, instead calling him "King Knight." She might have disowned him, or at least, definitely lost respect for him. Reading her lines hurt the most.

Fun as this campaign was, I went through every minute of it with anticipatory dread. No matter how good it got, I knew King Knight was going to betray them all in the end. And he did… almost exactly as he would beg Shovel Knight _not_ to. How tragic.
This is why when the golden opertunity arises to leave King Knight alone, dangling for his life after the rematch in the tower of fate, I take it every time.
also all throughout the campaign king knight is an insufferable jerk to everyone he meets. despite that, they all rallied behind him. and the thing is, had he do so, *people would have respected him enough to be a successor to king pridemoor had he just let his mom and pridemoor date.* he literally could have been made pridemoors heir as hes a king, and kings need heirs to carry on. but all the enchantress had to do was offer king knight *the title* of king for him to turn against everyone. because thats all he saw being a king as. a title of someone rich and powerful. and then he has all of a few days to a week to enjoy any of it before a knight and a plague doctor, both more worthy of being kings, come knocking, kicking his ass not once, *but twice*, one after another. and because both campaigns happen at roughly the same time, he's licking his wounds on one of them before hes humiliated even further. plague knight even got knighted by king pridemoor for his efforts. while king knight watches.
The whole game really let’s you know King Knight really sucks, and when he throws away a chance at true heroism for an empty title under the Enchantress it really drives it home. But the ending manages to return to being satisfying when it ends with Shovel Knight showing up to kick King Knight’s ass.
I love how epic it feels just having shovel knight enter the room and then king knight stands up. After all the crap King Knight did, he made a horrid decision, leading to him being beat up multiple times, and then forced to be a janitor seen in Shovel of hope’s credits.
Serves him right, he's probably going to spend his remaining days in a cell, as few as they are. A nice shiny guillotine awaits the traitor, if there's any justice!
When you realize King Knight could have saved everyone and beat the enchantress himself. Instead, he is the one that began the evil events leading to shovel of hope.
King Knight is a 30 year old manchild and weakest of the knights, probably. Basically no one in his campaign takes him seriously and his boss fight is the easiest in the game. He's also by far the weakest of the playable characters, being defined primarily by his limits rather than any extraordinary qualities which he might possess. He didn't stand any chance against the enchantress in a real fight, and his relics are arguably much weaker than the other playable characters'. That's what I want to say, but we're not sure if the other knights were holding back or actually going all out, and the cardia fight makes it seem like king knight was especially powerful, given that he was great enough to save her entire world or something and beat her in a direct fight too. So who knows.

One thing i find kathartic abotu King Knight's impulsitivy and vanity is that he could have easily inheret King Pridemoor's castle and kingdom if he played his cards rights (no pun intended) not to mention he was able to amass a grand number of friends and subjects willing to follow him, rtaher than be impatient and fall easy to the enchantress' temptation. Now he is left sitting on an worthless throne, surrounded in fools gold and subjects who only kneel down to him because the enchantress told them so
King Knight was the hero that was never meant to be. Now watching how King Knight decided to end his allies, is truly a reflection of how Shovel Knight spared the Order of No Quarter at the end of Shovel of Hope. King Knight HAD the potential to be the hero of all, but due to his greed and arrogance, he could never. And that's... honestly, sad. I really root for King Knight, cause you hope he could be better. Yet... he never will.
Say what you will to me this was a saddet ending. The kingdom robbed of joy well being and safty. Even all that King Knight's friends and HIS OWN MOTHER abandoned him! But then Shovel knight is the silver lining.

The whole GAME is meant to make you hate him, he has zero redeeming factors. A gloryhounding, unworthy waste of flesh. He literally just cares about himself, and has no love for anyone else. He even acts like a jerk to his mother on several occasions. The only reason he's affected at ALL by her leavig him, is because HE is losing something!

Lets be real. King Pridemoor deserved that. Definitely not everybody else trying to hang on, but King Pridemoor absolutely did. When a guy tries to tell you they're uncomfortable with you dating their mom, you might not be obligated to back down, but you do NOT disregard them. Nothing gave King Pridmoor the right to walk on King Knights emotions the way he did and pretend nothing was wrong.
Honestly if king primodor had said anything else maybe he could have convinced king knight how did he not realize his mother was such a sensitive topic despite king knights many objections, like use the fact enchantress is just using him, that he's already a king with loyal subjects/friends literally anything except the thing he's made clear makes him uncomfortable
in fairness, he didn't say it at all, he just made vague annoying noises and various grumblings. king knight has no say in what his mother does, and it was her that clearly made the first advances on pridemoor, who reciprocated as a friend, and then they became more.

there should be a bad ending to shovel of hope, where not only does shovel knight ignore the order, he cuts off king knight's hands with the shovel blade/beheads king knight with a shovel drop, then kills (spoiler) shield knight in cold blood and becomes the new enchanter/enchantress. specifically existing as the “i played king of cards first and find the “””””””””””””king”“””””””””””begging for mercy murderous-rage-inducing... ending”
