A very under rated band. The album this is from is nothing short of fantastic. So many memories of college.

I saw them a few times in the 90s in London. On one occasion, a drunken bellend in the crowd kept knocking one of the mic stands until it toppled over and hit Fergus Lawrie on the head. Obviously annoyed, Fergie threw his guitar to the ground, jumped into the crowd and punched the guy in the face before getting back on stage to resume the song. Cue load cheers from the crowd. Great band. Criminally unknown for a lot of people.

    Hello Tiger (guitar chords)
    - Main riff (Intro/verse/chorus):
    E5 C#5 A5 C#5
After the second chorus play this:
    - first bit: B5 A5 (x2)
    - second bit: E5 C#5 (x3) A5 (play this second bit twice then go back to the main riff)
you have intro/verse/chorus again, then first bit, second bit (this time play the whole second bit twice)
back to the main riff, end on C#
    Cheers!

So many good memories. Used to listen to it on one of my fav night shows on the radio back in Italy. Great song, came to my mind 5 minutes ago when my girlfriend bought tiger bread.

      great memories for me too....

Not to do other bands down, all the bands of that era had great songs and deserved their success, but c'mon, in terms of creativity, originality and insanely catchy pop hooks, this band absolutely destroy the likes of Shed Seven, Cast and the Bluetones. Those bands deserved the success they got, but in a fair and just world, Urusei should have been so much bigger than all of them, by a long way. How the hell did Parklife explode, yet I hadn't even heard this band until a couple of years ago

I think the bands you mentioned simply related to public more in the UK in the 90's. Urusei were going for a more cool US low-fi indie thing.

Why’s the band called Urusei Yatsura?

    • @solidslider223
      @solidslider223 2 роки тому +9

Well it’s named after an anime called “Urusei Yatsura” which roughly translates to “Those Obnoxious Aliens.” The girl he’s referencing in the song is, I’m assuming Lum, one of the show’s main characters, and she wears a tiger-striped bikini in the show. She’s an alien from outer space that falls into the hands of an unfortunate bachelor named Ataru Moroboshi. Ataru accidentally proposes to her and is now stuck with her because she’s stubborn and loves him. She became really popular and is a fan-favorite among many.

Rumiko Takahashi's "Urusei Yatsura" became *THE* most successful manga- and anime/movie/OVA series- in the 1980's, and set the standard for all "waifu" and "romcom" manga and anime that followed {"Lum" and "Ataru" became the best known romantic couple in all Japanese media back then}. A new series was just launched in October.

    My kinda rock an' roll.
So how many lame arses didn't give these musicians the time o' night?
Nevermind 'cause ya 0BVIously slept on them then... N0W ain't the time to come correct, declare with the certainty of a Democrat--
    "I Finished My Nap!"
Yeah nope, I didn't hear anything besides this banger of a song-- You hear somethin' ???
    Thought so...
