thanks man, i dont think you should throw the tuner in the scarp bin, but definitely the can.
yep can lose the can , but tuner needs to be cut to correct length. too short or no tuner you have a shit take off and can be terrible when reversing up
Kept the 2.4 tuner in, that is needed
Can is used as a leg support, long shaft without it can break in rough water, short midsection usually OK. Got to keep the tuner. As the name tells you everything. As rpm increases from stock, the tuner generally gets shorter but the taper is part of the design also👍
Are you drilling holes in the exhaust, cause you're having issues With your boat breathing?
This is mainly to just make the boat louder. Doubtful it adds performance, people just like the sound
By eliminating the small pipe you tossed(tuner) you stopped the exhaust sound waves that bounce back and pack the intake charge ( as an expansion chamber on any 2 stroke does ) and dropped the performance and hp quite a bit. While you have the adapter plate off put In solid motor mounts for better handling. Drilling holes does nothing for performance and will only get the law on your ass.
With out powerhead and tuner mods done correctly opening the exhaust is a waste of time .....PERIOD!!!
I have been modding outboards almost all my 70 yrs and haven't see this much BS....if you don't know what you are doing ....keep it to yourself!!!
Would this be the same way for a 1979 50 hp 4 cyl?

you are tossing the tuner? yikkes Dont weld. if it's too annoying, put the can back in. No lower unit mod.
